A friend very kindly gifted me a three bottle Molton Brown gift set for my birthday.
She knew I love Molton Brown shower gels. Superb and even better made in this country,
I was about to shower and bagged one from the gift box.
But hang on: the bottle wasn't filled to the top.
Then the top of the bottle broke off when I pressed it to open.
My suspicions were aroused. Could this gift set be a fake unknowingly bought by my friend?
The bottle was supposed to be one of MB's big sellers "Pink Pepper"
Hang on. It wasn't pink, the liquid was purple.
And, it looked slimy and didn't smell of anything. Wow, must be fake!
I called Molton Brown to see if it could throw any light on it.
Real bottles have a batch code at the bottom," I was told.
Nope! No batch code. Definitely a fake.
I send pix to Molton Brown which is now investigating.
I didn't have the heart to call my friend to tell her she'd bought fakes.
Instead I googled the gift set, thinking this is what she probably did.
Top of the google search, I could see the very same fake gift set, I could tell, the pink Pepper bottle was purple.
I then checked the price of the set against the real price, about half, really a final clue.
I emailed the seller suggesting the box was fake and said seller should investigate its supplier/distributor. No reply of course!
Molton Brown kindly sent me a few freebies to say thank you for my detective efforts, I also sent them various sellers which look like are selling the fakes.
You can imagine how much money they make!
I suspect each fake only costs say £2 to make. They retail at £25.
It seems unfair: I don't get a gift and my friend has been ripped off.
But I wonder if nearly everything on these sites are fake and they spend lots of money getting high up on google searches.
If you want real Molton Brown I have a refer a friend link here for 15pc off:

Recommend Sunlit Clementine and Orange and Bergamot!
Just 3 weeks till we're off to Dubai to see our son.
Hotels booked and posh restaurant booked for his birthday.
We'll spend longer out there early in the new year and add in a visit to Oman and a return to India.
Before that we have a busy December on return from Dubai with two online and one hotel seminar.
At least all that will keep me busy but I will have a lot of noise cancelling headphones going to avoid the dreaded Xmas music.
We should be doing another retreat sometime next year.
Places are limited to only ten and you need to apply for one, we chat to you and make sure it's right for you.
If you want to be on an interested email me at robbiethetrader with "2026 retreats interested". We'll then put you on a list to contact next year and allocate places on a first come first served basis.
People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.
I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.
Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.
Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.

Gary:
The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Naked Rambling
Rachel Reeves' admitting she broke local law renting out her house isn't a massive deal.
Or is it?
It's just that those in charge of us have to be 100pc when it comes to matter of the law.
The fact so many ministers have been caught out shows how hardly any of them should be anywhere near power.
It also shows lack of attention to detail, if they are so useless at managing their own affairs how much better will they be at managing the country?
Council "jobsworths" in Richmond, the borough we live in fined a woman for tipping coffee down a drain.
Of course, as you guessed, a Lib Dem council.
The council cancelled the fine after an uproar.
But the main question is why is the council wasting money employing three staff to chase this poor woman down and why are they on commission?
Why do councils waste money?
A: Because they can.
Why do governments waste money, yes you guessed it.
Here we go, just a day or two before Last Xmas by Wham starts playing.
Everywhere. Two months of it to come.
And the rest of the crap Xmas music, call me Scrooge but that's the way I feel and I am sorry about that.
This year retailers are so desperate everything started early.
I wonder how many restaurants/hospitality outlets are going to survive in January after whatever horrors Reeves has in store for us shortly.
A local mid range, Brasserie Blanc Fulham which has an amazing spot by the river surprised by closing fast out of nowhere.
A place we'd regularly gone to, which was busy.
Looks like Heartwood Group that owns it has figured getting a profit out of food is tough.
Blue Lights BBC1 ****
Excellent police drama that manages to combine action with some real in depth characters.
It isn't just "find and get the baddies".
Lots of themes explored including what it's like to be a young cop in N. Ireland.
Watching this, it is amazing how they manage to recruit anyone. Nicely done.
The Iris Affair *** sky
A slightly overwritten drama which gets over the line with some very good acting.
Tom Hollander and Niamh Algar shine brightly in a fast thriller about an AI project going horribly wrong.
There's plenty of action, chases and drama which are all well executed. Worth a view.
The Woman in Cabin 10 ** Netflix
A Netflix movie starring Keira Knightley as a Guardian journalist invited on a luxury cruise.
A thriller which does start very well and the first half is quite thrilling but it jumps the shark in spectacular fashion in the last quarter.
So much so I was roaring with laughter at the improbable ending.
House of Dynamite *** Netflix
Another Netflix movie with an ending that should have been explosive but ends as a damp squib.
The premise is decent covering the 20 minutes when a nuke is fired at Chicago from goodness knows where.
Various top brass in different locations are seen struggling to know what to do and the 20 minutes is re-run from the different places.
The middle gets a bit saggy, picks up a bit as the inevitable Idris Elba plays the US president who can't decide whether to hit back, and well, probably kill off all human life.
The ending though is a big let down. But, there is probably enough there for a watch and certainly food for thought.
Let's chuck "Prince" Andrew out, fund him with a two up two down in Rotherham.
Maybe a car too, a nice Austin Allegro. And 20k a year.
He won't know what to do if he gets a bill given he's never paid one in his life.
Disney has decided not to stump up any more cash to fund Dr Who.
No surprise. Let's be honest: the show has been total crap since Tom Baker left.
EX-TER-MIN-ATE!
(The spell checker has just got arsey with me after that word).
I'm following the lead of Rachel Reeves who broke a law.
Don't worry about it, just an "inadvertent error".
I'd like to just say re all the laws I have broken "¦ that every break was simply an inadvertent error.
So just let me off then.
Darling sorry I forgot to take the bins out, inadvertent error"¦"

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets
Dear oh dear.
The appalling out of her depth Rachel Reeves continues to destroy UK businesses.
By taking so long to tell them which taxes are going up she's ruined what would normally be a lucrative Xmas period.
How are businesses to know how to prepare for the crucial pre Xmas spend?
Worse, lots of ideas are "floated" to see what sticks.
The so called mansion tax would be a disaster seeing so many who help stimulate the economy just up sticks.
Not just that it's a silly complex tax. Can you imagine how many appeals there will be, and it's also very unfair.
There are no "mansions" near here at a £2m price point.
Most are just bog standard three bed houses.
How will people even pay it? They may have sat on a house for decades but have no ability to pay such a tax.
I personally know several who employ 100s ready to depart to somewhere more .
Worse is to come: the horrible little twerp Torsten Bell is obviously being lined up to take over once Reeves is dumped.
This twit went straight into politics from uni and has never done a proper day's work in his life.
He has no idea how hard it is to run a business and just thinks everyone should have the same amount of money.
And he has no understanding of aspiration.
And if you have an isa, beware, he is gunning for us.
His "think tank" a while back argued no isa should be tax free once £100k was reached.
One suspects he is what he is because his parents called him a really weird first name.
Well, not much we can do about the terrible sub standard nature of the current crop of politicians and we just have to get on with it and hope for the best.
I bet not one of them would even be able to properly manage a branch of Starbucks.
Within days of being in charge the branch would descend into total chaos.
Another abysmal PMQ's but looks like one of the big taxes is going up.
I have so many trade ideas and trade ideas to be thanks to the retreat and the online seminar from Friday.
Some nice ideas and a few trading range ideas came from the screens we did.
So glad one or two of you have sold your crap, I know you are feeling good about that.
One trading range that arose was IG Group.
It has established a trading range of 1050-1150 and I got some near the bottom and have been averaging up.
I do wonder, can it break up through the top of this range and go further higher?
Given the low pe and massive cash pile it does look quite cheap, it will be interesting once it gets back up to 1150p whether buyers will continue in.
Its current strategy seems to be to encourage people to trade crypto where no doubt it makes a pile
I've had a few emails prompting me to open a "crypto" account.
Look, as they say fools and their money are soon parted so if IG is looking to pick them off, fair enough.
In the meantime looks like a nice trade unless the whole market goes down
We noticed at the online seminar that video game companies are on the rise, two in particular, Everplay and Frontier.
After a good look at them I bought a bit of both, though there is a but.
They are higher risk and according to one of those at the seminar they need one or two big winners, and if they don't get those profits can be badly affected.
Everplay produced a very strong recent statement with acquisitions paying off, downside is head cheese Debbie sold a lot of shares, possibly to fund her purple hair? (See website).
Results are strong as is its big cash pile. Given its strength it may be best to run a "get out quick" on it, ie get out fast with a small loss should it start to tank.
A 15 pe seems reasonable.
Frontier is more expensive at 24 but probably deserved with profits up substantially.
Net cash is flying up and it seems to have the right games in its portfolio.
They are both in the GOQ (get out quick) rather than stop loss territory, but if they both carry on up, they look like decent trailing stop candidates.
Ie, you stay in if they keep going but out once weakness sets in.
One on the very opposite end of the scale, another to surface on my Dash For Cash screen on Sharescope is Dot Digital.
By opposite I mean its share price has been in a slump, so much so I wonder about this being a recovery play.
It is always risky buying ahead of a statement (due Nov 4th).
After all what if there is a profit warning? That's where staking is important, not one to bet the house on.
But there is potential here. Looks like it will report in line.
Only thing I could find that could raise an eyebrow was "while market conditions remain uncertain".
If there are no hidden surprises this looks like a good support area, anything promising I'm hoping for 30pc upside.
It pretty much said adjusted operating profit will be a share under £19m.
So taken a bit of a risk with this buying ahead which of course could bite me in the bum.
Oooh, bite me.
I've done nicely with payment solution companies over the years. I had a couple of very nice bids on them.
Even made over £8k on Argentex in 2023. Lucky I didn't touch it in 2024 or 5 as it went bust!
This new trade is in Eurowag which changed its name from Wag Payment Solutions.
Not a great name, sounds like someone living in Europe who goes around saying witty things.
This one is riding high and I've noticed there always seems to be massive buyers in it on the level 2 order book in the low 90s where it sits currently.
Profit and revenues were mighty impressive.
Downside is the debt but it is being reduced significantly.
If forecasts of £90m profit and £145m of net debt are right then it probably looks undervalued even given recent rises. That would bring it down to a pe of just over 10.
I suppose it is possible it might do a fundraise to pay down the debt quicker.
Profit before tax rose more than 200pc half year to half year. It also paid out a special dividend.
While on the riskier side, it could pay off but a stop loss definitely required.
Anpario came up on a few screens at the seminar.
Lots going for this maker of animal feeds.
Massive increases in profits and revenue and it has decent net cash too, indeed it was found on my Dash For Cash screen on Sharescope.
To get free trial access to the screen and a discount using Sharescope:
>
It looks fairly valued at the current price - downside is that it is close to a high and getting out quick if it comes back from that is difficult as the spread is wide.
It's one of those maybe to just buy and hold for some time. Likely pre-tax profits of over £7m and a cash pile of £12m ballpark look decent indeed for its market cap.
I've shorted Pearson Group - a pe of 16 looks too high here for sluggish growth. There's also quite a debt pile.
Quite a few appearances for the word you want to see when shorting a share "Challenging" which came up on my highlighter system a number of times.
Growth forecast is not that great just single figures.
I'm aiming for a fall in the shares to about 900-950p current bottom of its current range.
I did add some more to my WPP short, as I said after already shorting it three times there was almost certainly another profits warning on the way and that was delivered this morning.
The short is up more than £5,000 and I expect it to fall a bit more, but probably at sub 300p I'll take profits on the basis that off a very low base, someone might make a bid.
Ms International is spiking up which is now my biggest holding (Those of you who attended the seminar will know how big it is.) (The holding in MSI, don't be dirty).
I haven't taken profits even though the holding is large as it's always been undervalued and there are plenty of potential catalysts for more upside.
Yet another ahead of statement from Bloomsbury Publishing which I bought recently.
A very nice spike up on that but since then profit taking has brought it back, looks a lovely entry point if you don't have any.
I wonder how much a big US publisher would pay to get hold of Harry Potter?
Decent update from Synetics, this is one of the shares that needs patience.
You sit on it, there is sudden good news or a bid, everyone then wants it but can't get any!
LBG Media's statement was upbeat and it looks cheap but seems unloved by the market and another that could burst into life when least expected.
Another contract win announced by Journeo and after some recent profit taking looks like these shares are on the way up again.
Onto some profit and loss taking.
A loss for Gmr of £275. Level 2 helped me to make the decision to sell up before any stop was hit.
I had a screenshot of the level 2 screen at the online seminar to show how much it helped and since then it has gone down more.
A trailing stop lobbed me out of the Card short for a profit of £1,500. It was close to reaching the initial target.
It's the end of the road for the wonderful Alpha Group International which has now delisted after then fab bid went through.
It makes a massive profit of £26,332 for the 4 positions I had for the website and a lot more personally.
On The Beach just can't get above the 225p area so taken profits of £211.
I am very excited regarding not only screens I've been working on with Sharescope but also cutting down time and effort finding and evaluating shares.
It's nearly done: the idea is everything I usually look at all on one page.
No more flitting from one site/area to the next, everything needed, just one screen.
I hope all will be revealed on December 8th at the hotel seminar - Sharescope's top geek will present it, and we'll be looking at further tweaks with hopefully ideas from those attending.
Then early next year I should have it totally ready. Stay tuned!
With markets riding at highs it might not be too long before shorts pay off.
I suggest if you want to try this please ensure you know what you are doing, perhaps a read of my SB book link here

Nice comment from Craig who attended the last online seminar:
Thank you for a great day on Friday. As a beginner, and half way through reading your Naked Trader book, I was a little apprehensive I would be overwhelmed with the day.
But quite the opposite, great pace and pitched at the right level for everyone online. Seeing Robbie select shares to investigate and even place some buys and top up existing shares has given me the confidence to do it myself.
I would highly recommend to any beginner and I will hopefully join again sometime in the future to top up my knowledge."

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.
Boy, what a gripper!
Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.
The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!
Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.
And they are all certain of their own brilliance...
Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..
Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".
It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.
if you want to better with how you invest, trade or spend money it's a very worthwhile read!

I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread
Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.
Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".
It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.
It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.
Buy and read! Amazon link:
One or two of you asked about how we got our car back after it was stolen, we used apple airtags, hide them in your car or under your bike seat and get your car or bike back, amazing.
Amazon have them, link here:
The steering lock we were recommended and bought you can get from amazon, link here:
I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.
If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
