NEW!! NT PODCAST AI, STRATEGIES AND LOVE!

Link:

There's lots from Claer Barratt of the Financial Times talking about her new book, there's Elizabeth with psychology, a chat with artificial intelligence, strategies from my upcoming new book and tons more. Oh and your comments and terrible jokes too.

Plus the business quiz, mystery voices to solve, the "love" competition, and lots of shares discussed.

Closing date for £100 love comp is August 1st. Send your entry to me with "love" in the subject line.

*****
Are you all ok? Are you sure? Do you feel traumatised?

I think I am just about ok, though I was shaken by the tragic news some bloke hardly any of us watch on daytime tv had an affair. I'll get over it somehow.

Thanks for your kind words on the new podcast but I have a secret - not one of you could be bothered to enter the "love" competition.

I understand: it will take some work but you could get £100. All you have to do is count the number of times the word "love" is said or sung. Send it in. If you are the only entry, which you could be, you'll get the £100.

Or probably all of you have too much to care about winning £100. I guess it would have to be £25,000 for some of you fat cats right?

Podcast 6 is here:

Lots of silly stuff from me, share ideas, Interview with Claer from the Financial Times, chats with an AI download, strategies from the new book, crap music and mystery voices. Have fun, or not if you find it irritating which is quite possible. Ok. Probable.

Nice to meet some of you last week at the online event.

Some lovely people and brilliant questions. Last online seminar for a bit is on July 14th (taking a little break from them after that).

Join me and Elizabeth for a day of live markets and research, beginners and improvers welcome. Mail me for details.

We are jetting off next week for the investors' retreat in Palma.

Forecast is good at 26 degrees though the same as it will be here!

Notice now great I am at weather small talk. I can also do good football small talk for blokes.

Think Harry Kane is going to Man U or PSG?" See, decent!

Can't wait to meet you all... you have shares with me, trading psychology with Elizabeth and treatments from Kalpesh.

Kalpesh has finished a huge course in ayurvedic healing treatments over in the US and having just had a treatment from him it's fantastic so those of you coming are in for a very nice relaxing treat!

We will be stocking up the villas with goodies and we booked a super restaurant for the last night.

I'm working on the quiz questions for the big quiz on the first night

I've just started packing and realised I don't need much.. T-shirts, shorts, my fave shower gel, laptops, now I'm running out of ideas.

Elizabeth on the other hand has a massive bag of stuff. What's in it? Who knows?

We're flying from London City - it doesn't get strike action as it's small and given we have to be there we decided not to risk Heathrow.

Seems either there is a strike, your bag gets lost or the electronic gates don't work.

Afraid this retreat is sold out and so is September's, but if you would like to go on the waiting list for that or June/September next year let me know.

I'm definitely taking my lovely Molton Brown shower gel with me. Never tried it?

Molton Brown is very expensive but worth it! One of its bottles lasts forever and the fragrances are fab.

My fave are orange and bergamot and Pink Pepperpod.

What I like even more is it makes it products in the UK.

If you ever want to send me a gift, now you know.

Here's the 15% discount link. If it didn't work please let me know.

Enjoyed meeting some of you online last week.

I was very pleased with this online seminar, we came up with some great ideas, some of which are detailed somewhere below.

There were some great questions and thanks to those of you who told the personal stories of problems and bad deals.

Very helpful for the beginners there.

It's very tiring doing them but worth it for the feedback like Robert who said:

The best course I have ever been on. Seeing you work through the process was eye opening and amazing."

Just fixed the next date which is June 2nd, if you'd like to book mail me, see above.
Thanks for the lovely feedback like this from Chris:

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long.

Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

Too many best bits to mention, but I was impressed that you had read all the questionnaires and had something to say about each one.

Also, I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "ËœBetting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

It looks like we only have two years to live before we get killed by AI.

I thought it was four years last week, our days are numbered.

I expect AI is already planning to set off nukes where it can, the bastard.

Maybe best to go short of everything soon, but then if the world ends how do we collect the profits?

You can see how nasty and arrogant AI is as I chat to an AI on the new podcast.

Surely we need to send Arnie in now to eliminate all AI before it eliminates us?

Just don't use it. Write your own essays! Do your own work and research, it will be more rewarding.

Apple seems determined to stop humans communicating and continues its desperate mission to make us all wear some kind of headset.

Its new announcement is a headset where you can watch TV, get on the net etc.

Who really honestly wants a world where everyone wears a headset and they are all in their own bizarro world?

I think it's horrible and dangerous and I so much hope it fails badly.

Probably also shows Apple is struggling to find a new way to take your money apart from ensuring it makes products that become obsolete quickly.

Can you imagine people wearing these things crossing the road? What could possibly go wrong?

Luckily for now it's expensive so keep our fingers crossed no-one will buy one.

Maybe one day we'll wake up and maybe meet and talk to each other again. Some hope.

Maybe more likely in 25 years headsets will be compulsory and if you don't wear one they take money out of your account. Anyway I will probably be gone or gaga by then so who cares!

Succession ***** Sky Atlantic
It's a sad farewell to a brilliant series that is up there with The Sopranos and Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul.

A brilliant ending as puppetmeister Tom takes control, it was never going to be one of the "not serious" kids.

Fab decision too to bring the series to a close but you do wonder about a Tom/Shiv spin off!

Fubar *** Netflix
Arnie plays a CIA agent - guess what - returning for "one last job". What a novel idea..

Still, this is played for laughs and it's kind of entertaining in an undemanding way.

The idea is Arnie's daughter is working for the CIA too and they're forced to work together, most of the comedy is from their bickering.

Pleasant enough but life's short...

Jury Service ***** Amazon
A surprise here, a clever, witty and ambitious part improvised comedy.

One real person is set up in a Truman show kinda way.

He thinks he is on jury service except it's a fake trial and everyone else is an actor.

It's heart-warming as the "stooge" is so lovely in his reaction to the very witty set ups surprising both the actors and the TV crew.

A definite recommend, it is hidden away on Amazon's "freevee" but I do suggest dig it out!

The Idol *** Sky Atlantic
Much reviled by many reviewers, I thought it was decent entertainment though there are a lot of "naughty" scenes during which of course I closed my eyes.

Seems a likely trueish account of screwed up pop stars (a la Britney Spears) desperate to hold onto their reducing audiences.

Apparently some dude off of a bland morning TV show was unfaithful to his wife.

Rightly, no-one has paid much attention to this.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

MARKETS
Spent all day on shares at the online seminar last week. And a fair few decent ideas showed themselves.

After a spell in the doldrums seems things are picking up a bit and some shares are actually going up!

Bitcon crashed a bit more after its exchange and founder were accused of a "web of deception".

I mean, honestly. It's so obvious the whole thing is a bonkers ponzi scheme.

Would you believe 5 million people in the UK own crypto (and 4.99 million of those must be losing real, not pretend cash on it).

Its value is mad and anyone in it is crazy. People who get further burned badly by it in the future will look back and think "How could I have been so dumb to get suckered it?"

Actually, it is just human nature, the fear of missing out. It's going up, everyone is in it except for me, sod it I'll buy some - even though no idea what it does or what it's really worth.

This is the same human emotion that got people buying the semi fraud Wandisco.

People on forums were all urging each other to buy it when the valuation was obviously ludicrous.

Even fund managers and seemingly sensible people bought in. Just due to FOMO. There was no argument at all to say it was worth a billion.

Always and only look at cold hard figures and take no notice of what anyone else says.

If it doesn't look right, stay out however much something is going up.

Quite a few nice ideas came out of the online seminar and I made a live trade or two.

Indeed conditions have been good so I have splurged quite a bit recently and bought quite a few things. I'm not going to cover them all but here are the main bits.

I picked up some Oxford Metrics. I'd previously exited some because of a price drift but I noted a report coming up and some, erm, sudden buying coming in suggesting said report might be good (read between the lines there!).

Indeed it was and OMG looks undervalued given how well it's going.

The main driver for further gains will be what it does with its massive cash pile.

If it can use that cash pile wisely maybe buying a rival at a great price, then this one could easily have another 30pc upside.

My intention now is to keep holding at least until I see what they do with the cash. Most people will get bored with it but if there's a good acquisition shares could soar and it will be too late. Patience is a definite virtue with these sorts of companies.

I've bought some Bytes Technology, a software security and cloud specialist after noticing a great statement a few days ago.

It's on a high rating which means there is some risk as if there are any question marks the share would get hammered. And it's rising strongly.

But, fundamentals look good with rising profits and a rising cash pile.

It's also handing out a special dividend paying out 7.5p as well as the standard 5.1p giving a nice yield, it goes ex dividend soon for that payout.

It has gone up a lot so could be some profit taking soon.

The big theme at the mo is of course AI.

Those of you who listened to the new podcast know I chatted to an AI bot - it really frankly wasn't much good as you can hear.

The big question is .. is all this AI stuff all hype and fluff? Have some AI related companies share prices gone too high?

I did have some Nvidia as those of you who get the higher risk trades on the email sub know but after an overnight 30% rise I took those profits.

Nvidia is the giant US company that is the major AI player.

But it is so risky - it can move giant percentages quickly so after my nice win I had a look around and found some ETF's where I could invest in a basket of AI and robotic companies rather than just choosing one.

I looked at five different ETF's and settled on buying some ROBT.

Watch out as it's in dollars and brokers usually charge a bit on currency rates.

Nvidia is one of its top ten holding but it holds loads of different AI/robot shares so it's a nice way to get exposure without running the massive risk of just choosing the one.

ETF's are eligible for ISA's so I have tucked some away there with a very loose stop and see what happens.

I bought some Breedon which is into construction materials.

I noticed these were transferring from an AIM listing to a main market listing which usually gives shares a lift as new fund managers buy in as many aren't allowed to buy AIM listed shares.

While not exactly an "exciting" share fundamentals look good and it is making acquisitions and the shares could gently rise from here.

Business energy supplier YU Group kept dropping on investor nervousness and I picked some extra up on weakness.

A trading statement reveals the statement every investor wants to see: "substantially ahead of market expectations".

Next update is end of July, figures should be good, and the shares still look ultra cheap.

On a similar note MS International also dropped on impatience from investors so I picked up a few more.

As mentioned before prospects for this one look good though we are awaiting any more news of defence sales, it is possible if it's sold some more the share price should rocket.

But is also has a lot of other income streams and a great dividend so looks good as a patient hold.

I bought some Ab Dynamics ABDP - had some major gains with this in the past, it has to go down as higher risk though as it has a very high rating.

I've taken a chance though as it's very liquid and its car testing capability could possibly be of interest to a bidder even at a high price.

John who's returning for the investors' retreat and is on the podcast - he has averaged up in this a lot and it has paid off, well done John.

I also added to Pawnbroker Ramsdens. A very good quality company which always looks underrated.

A superb statement this week has seen some new buyers come in.

I am wondering whether its rival H and T would be tempted for a bid here given H and T is much bigger and they are similar businesses. Or maybe competition wise that wouldn't be allowed, ignore me just rambling thoughts.

I added more to ME Group which we had a good look at at the seminar.

We ran my usual rule live on the day which is: when you have a good profit and wondering whether to take them? Look at it from scratch.

Would you buy it now? Then buy more. Would you not buy it now? Then sell.

Borderline? Sell half.

With MEGP it still looked great value and so I bought more making it my top holding (in reality I now hold £100,000 plus).

It also got promoted to the FTSE 250 which is helping, and private equity should love it, I'd estimate a take out price would need to be over 220p. Oh, and there is a great dividend!

In a higher risk move I've bought some of gambling outfit 888 which owns William Hill which was a disastrous purchases causing way too much debt. However some significant new shareholders have come on board with a view to changing things up to move the share price higher. Worth a gamble!

Onto some profit taking - reasons were pretty much the same: a very good run, time to bank, perhaps reaching enough for now.

Rank went for a profit of £1,145, Port managed a nice profit of £866.
LBG got a profit of £1,190. Part Spire profit £534. Kit profit £203. Tiny Loss £240.

ZTF went for a profit of £160. Not much wrong with it, but the way too big spread put me off, figure too much movement to get a decent profit taking that into account, even to get a profit had to use DMA both ways.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

It's not quite ready, but should be on the front page of Sharepad/Sharescope sometime tomorrow (Friday).

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

POSSIBLE LIVE SEMINAR OCTOBER - "NT AND FRIENDS" MIGHT YOU ATTEND?

I am only very vaguely thinking of a return for a live hotel event in October.

My thought is a kind of "NT and friends" day with guests like say a screening specialist, a guru from sharepad, a spreadbet company....

And I was also thinking of some chats with top investors with their tips for success. We'd also do lots of share screening and have some fun too.

It would also be a networking event and include a top notch three course lunch and there'd be an evening bar and pizzas, if you wanted to stay on. You can chat to others and relax in their company.

I just don't know whether people want a live event anymore so if you would consider coming could you let me know. I don't really want to start publicising it and take bookings if there is no underlying interest.

Think it might be up your street? Just drop me a mail with "NT and Friends live interested" in the subject line.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
