Had a super spreadbetting seminar last week, some great questions from the group.

It was very interesting to spend a lot of time with the spreadbetting bosses learning how they make their' money and the ins and outs of it all.

For those of you who've been to a seminar before there's a follow up election special on July 5th.

We'll be looking at potential post election result trades and lots more as usual, see above for details.

I got an email from a reader and just as I was about to reply I noticed he did walking tours of parts of London.

I asked him about them and went on his website and they looked fascinating.

So this weekend we booked another "Boutique" (ie expensive) hotel in the East End and we're going to do the walk.

And the next day thought it would be interesting to wander round Canary Wharf at the weekend while it's quiet.

So quiet that Virgin Active doesn't bother to open at all at the weekend.

Let you know how it went next time, and if it's good will recommend.

A trip to Ladbroke Grove for a wander around last weekend and a shout out to Coffee Plant.

The coffee here is excellent - we used this place to supply our cafe when we owned it a long time ago.

We tasted so many coffees for our place and this coffee was the number one.

It does do many different coffees but the house espresso is super.

Round the corner is the famous door used in the film Notting Hill.

If something goes wrong with our bicycles in the past I've called in a mobile service.

They come and charge an arm and a leg but I think, sod it, I don't have to bother.

This week thought about getting back on the bikes for the summer but they both looked out of sorts.

Cobwebs, rusty chains and punctures and saggy tyres.

I went to the website and called the number but "call back on Monday".

I then started to fill out a long boring internet form then stopped.

Go on, Burns. YOU can do this! How hard can it be?

Found the pumps, different valves and figured out there was only one real puncture.

Got the inner tube out, got the make, ordered one, plus some bike oil.

Next day, well it was a faff, but got the inner tube in, pumped everything up, cleaned up the chains stuck oil everywhere and bingo! I dun it !!

I have to admit I feel very pleased with myself and thinking about finding more things I could maybe do myself.

The only thing is I get a nagging feeling that when I get on the bike and travel 5 minutes I am not going to be terribly surprised if the tyres don't hold up and I end up walking home.

That'll make me feel pretty deflated.

To stop myself feeling disappointed with my handywork I'm going to leave it a week to try it out.

And after all, it is raining....

In the meantime I can bask in my own glory.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
no thanks" could work for you.

My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

Is the election over yet? No? Please make it stop!

It's hard work avoiding it though can just about manage.

I caught a bit of the Sky thing last night and wish I hadn't.

Both leaders come across pretty badly.

Sir Lord doesn't really answer questions and when in doubt confirms his father was a toolmaker.

If in further doubt ignore the question and say "change".

And promise not to put taxes up, we all know he will.

No Dishy Rishi (he does have lovely hair) does try hard but he has the air of someone who can't wait for the whole thing to be over.

And both would be dead meat as teachers. The naughty pupils would be all over them.

Do we have to have to have the election at all?

Just have a chat, call it 78 Tories, one Reform, and the rest Labour and let's just forget about the Lib Dems as they just want a blanket speed limit of 5mph.
Heartfelt sadness from us all I'm sure regarding the death of TV doc Michael Mosley.

Tragic for his wife and family who have lost someone who seemed so lovely.

You hear a lot of stories of couples going on holiday and one dying during it.

There must be little worse than going home without them. Horrible.

A reminder to anything can happen to any of us so let's try and enjoy life while we have it.

Tv and film will mainly be dire this summer.

The writers strike means platforms are now very short of material and they're getting desperate for filler.

Maybe time to watch Better Call Saul, The Sopranos and Succession again.

Shark Tank **** BBC 3
This is the US version of Dragons Den and what a lot of fun it is compared to the UK.

The sharks fight between themselves for deals.

The entrepreneurs have great entertaining pitches really going for it unlike our rather staid UK ones.

Pitches and deals are faster and often more interesting, go watch the sharks!

Sharks are more fun than dragons.

Queenie **** Ch 4
The "black" version of Bridget Jones is how this one is termed.

Yet another "woman breaks up with man and suffers" story sounds a bit cliched but it is actually entertaining.

Episodes are just 24 mins long which helps.

Nice performances and thoughtful with it.

Outer Range *** Amazon
Well, this is a weird one but if you like sci fi, and Westerns this is for you!

A mix of outback America, time travel, Back To The Future, and weird time shifts.

Sometimes you think "How come those who suddenly went back 100 years then came back didn't tell everyone"?

You need to ignore all this and the usual time travel plot hole stuff.

One guy didn't even seem bothered to meet himself from the past. I mean that happens all the time.

Weird but often compelling! Season 2 is just out, but you'll need to start at season one.

Skydive Murder *** Ch 4
Weird hybrid of documentary and drama but fascinating too.

The odd story of a husband trying to kill his wife by tampering with her parachute on a skydive.

It's not just the twisted mind of the husband but the in denial wife is fascinating too.

The Euros are on the way. I'm being unpatriotic. Boo! Hiss!!

I've backed France at a tad over 4/1 and Portugal at 7/1.

I just feel England somehow manages to just not quite get there while France seems a tad more ruthless.

Portugal looks interesting at a bigger price,

England's price looks too short because bookies expect everyone to bet on England!

If you want a free tenner to bet on the Euros go to

>

Click "£10 betting site offer" top right and you'll get a tenner voucher to spend at the
bookie of your choice. And you get to keep any winnings.

Bookies are desperate for your Euros bets so there are lots of offers there too.

Beware though: check the offers carefully, there are sometimes t and c's like you can only
bet at 2am on a bank holiday.

(Stick your free tenner on France or split £5 France and £5 Portugal).

(Robbie is an unpatriotic bastard and down with him).

Apparently online sellers of stuff are now asking for "tips".

This is the tip of the iceberg. People who don't serve you at all everywhere want more.

However, I realised it's time you lot tipped me.

After all, come on, a lot of you have made a mint from some of my ideas.

I mean I got a lot of emails like "Thanks so much for all the money I made from Iqgeo/YU/MSI etc."

Well, that's nice but where's my tip?

I suggest 15% of any profits would be about fair. Cash is fine if you want. Especially 50's.

If you made losses from anything then obviously that's your fault, what did I say about stop losses?

MARKETS

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

It's often kind of anecdotal evidence that primes you for an upcoming market sell off.

There's the old story of the shoeshine boys buying shares just before the 1929 crash.

I've noticed a few odds and sods that might herald an at least "be wary" alert.

My young son has shown me tik tok videos of various youngsters claiming to be making tons of money trading, mainly forex of course.

There seems to be more gambling going on that recently.

Oh and young men are hooked on "trading" bitcon which as anyone remotely sensible realises is a giant ponzi scheme.

And the intensity of mails I get from brokers and forex and cfd companies imploring me to tell everyone how amazing they are and in return I get loadsamoney.

Indeed, one which seems to be offering me tens of thousands to sign up is very insistent.

I've said I won't because everyone who deals forex and cfd's loses, just a question of how long and I don't approve of it and I only ever take deals from great companies that can help pi's like Stockopedia and Sharepad.

Even then I rarely will take money and only if I have used the company myself for a while and happy for whatever reason they are not rinsing customers.

Come on," this one says. "Take our money, you know you want to..."

It goes on in effect to say I might as well take their money as the gamblers will gamble anyway.

I guess that is true.

I say I really would rather sleep at night than lead people over a cliff and I don't need the money anyway.

Their insistence, the plethora of tik tok and other videos and another thing makes me wary.

I had a look round lots of websites and noticed the same thing.

All commentators on UK shares seem incredibly bullish. I think that might be a worry.

Of course some of them are paid to have bullish views of course as it makes them money.

They are saying things like "The new bull market has started" etc.

Well, maybe. But when commentators are bullish it is almost certainly nearly time to sell up.

And when they are miserable and lost confidence, nearly always time to buy.

Take anything you read on forums with a huge pinch of salt.

Investors/traders can't help being bullish. They are desperate for it.

I have no idea personally where it is all going.

I am just saying bursts of enthusiasm tend to lead to cries of "Why was I suckered in by others?"

Inflation appears sticky, war isn't going away nor are elections and could it be interest rates may not fall as much as promised.

I'm not saying sell off now, I am just saying be careful and be especially careful about holding too much in illiquid small caps you may not be able to sell at all.

When you see people bragging about tiny microcap gains, it may not be so.

Selling these can be hard, and indeed a selling price could be well below what is advertised.

Right enough warnings from this old c word, let's see what I've been up to!

The seminar on Friday produced some interesting ideas, especially trading ranges.

One of those was RS Group.

It's in a very established trading range of around 700p to 800-850pish.

It's not really the sort of share I would buy and hold expecting some very nice gains.

After all, its last report wasn't great, and there is tons of debt but Mr Market even so thinks
700p too low and 850p enough.

So, this goes down as a shorter-term spreadbetting idea.

If it goes below 680p I am out, and also out once it hopefully gets up to near 800p.

Card Factory also came up, this one repeats a range of low 90s up to 110p.

You can see why.

It's fairly boring really (I mean cards and gifts, not exactly tech) and again easy to see
why the market thinks cheap in the early 90s but pricey at 110p.

So I am in for the range and going for a hopeful 10-15% in not too long though it tends to go with whatever the main market is doing.

Problem for this one is the debt pile - but the low rating in the very low 90s makes look cheap.

I might try and take profits (hopefully) before a likely August update.

Any hint of a fall much below 88p and I'm gone.

I've had another bash at Eckoh after its results this week.

It's stuck at a low of 36p and a high of 44p.

Its profits were stagnant but cash was up - but the outlook statement was very bullish.

Record contracts in the US, strong progress with cloud transition, margins up and new contract wins.

Given all this, it looks possible the next statements could be rather good helping it to push up past previous resistance areas.

In the meantime it's unlikely to go down much so it might be a question of buying and being patient.

I've shorted Bellway.

Don't ask me how to value housing companies, I have not the foggiest and I rarely get involved not knowing my Barratt from my Bovis.

This one came from the SB seminar based on its trading range.

Which appears to be 2450-2850.

Given it's close to top of the range looked worth a go, and if it breaks through 2850 time to quit for a small loss.

Looking at some other housing shares, they seem to be peaking and turning down.

Don't ask me why, not a clue.
I did this with a guaranteed stop with TN.

I think good to use a GS with shorts in case of a bid.

TN does brilliant guaranteed stops, you pay a small amount if it gets hit.

If you have TN click "guaranteed stop" and it will tell you how much if triggered and then depends on the size but it's not much.

If you would like to sign up to TN link is here.

>

We also noted at the SB seminar TN came up consistently with tighter spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 shares.

Meanwhile Spreadex was great on smaller caps.

>

Onto some loss and profit taking then.

It's annoying when a trade that looked really good goes wrong.

That happened to me with You. I thought it looked a lovely trade. Everything going for it.

And indeed it was for a while and went up nicely, indeed at one point it was a lovely profit.

I could have then taken that lovely profit but held on too long and ended up with break evenish thanks to a raised stop which got me out unemotionally.

Though I could have raised it higher than breakeven and made a profit but never mind.

It may still be a nice trade but it has fallen more since, sometimes Mr Market knows more than we do.

At least ME reported well and though shares dipped as they always do on a statement looks a perfect takeover story.

Anyway had enough of pronouns and I have now embarked on a different idea.

I am going to have a go with sex codes.

Ie, any code in some way related to sex. Then I can have a hot sex portfolio.

Here's the starting sex portfolio:

BUM, TIT, ARS, RIM, HEAD, BLOW, FAN, BIG, SHAG, BONK, BANG, TOY, ORAL, WILE, BALL, 3SUM, WNK

Then a short portfolio of rubbish codes which, well, speak for themselves.

POO, POS, DOWN, BOO, EEK, LOL, RANK, DEBT, OWE, RUN, OUT, CON, PUMP, DUMP, TOS

If you have an idea for codes to add to either portfolio, do let me know.

A few bits and pieces of a clear out, mainly raised stops getting hit for profit.

The Vic trade got closed for a profit of £912 (But I have retained a rump of these shares).

Keller got closed for a profit of £ 929. Half of cab went for a profit of £1,420 and Boy for a profit of £1,845

The Ezj spreadbet went for a loss of £28.

Everyone seems excited about Raspberry PI.

Pages and pages on how fantastic the float is, great for the UK, fund managers all excited..

I've written some new stuff in my new book to come about Story Vs Numbers.

Most of what you read is "story". Newspapers/pundits love a "story".

The company is amazing, here's its story.

But I only look at numbers first. And on the numbers I'm afraid Raspberry PI Looks like a short.

Sorry! Shoot me down, slag me off, say Robbie Burns stinks but it looks like an overcooked PI.

Figures show pre-tax profits of about £30m. I don't really see now that = a value of nearly £800m.

Doesn't mean to say it won't go up from here.

Indeed it probably will as PI's can buy in for the first time tomorrow.

But I'm afraid I think it will tumble from highs within about a week or two.

So I am waiting to get a short on. Probably quite soon but whenever it looks like it has peaked.

Look I am sorry especially as I'm a pathetic people pleaser and want to please you.

But the numbers say: "This is overvalued."

The story says: "This company is great".

Take your PI-ck.

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".

SPREADBETTING
I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

Buy and read! Amazon link:

One or two of you asked about how we got our car back after it was stolen, we used apple airtags, hide them in your car or under your bike seat and get your car or bike back, amazing.

Amazon have them, link here:

The steering lock we were recommended and bought you can get from amazon, link here:
I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.
