People keep asking me which broker to use!

I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.

Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.

Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.

II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.

If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.

Seems like a no brainer here is the link:

I hope you enjoy the new edition- months of work went into it and lots of new material with new discoveries and ideas from the last 5 years.

Included how to cope with events like pandemics and wars and volatility.

And loads of new trading and investing ideas, with new screens, how to trade from scratch, what must be avoided, mindset/psychology, when to cut losers, how to hang onto winners, and lessons learned from meeting all kinds of different traders.

Hopefully all easy to understand and even entertaining. I even go through recent isa trades and the reasons for them. Enjoy!!

NT PODCAST AI, STRATEGIES AND LOVE!

Link:

At last a bit of a rest from the social whirl of the last few weeks with the retreat and the book launch boat party.

Look forwards to meeting some of you online tomorrow for the online seminar.

December is busy with 2 seminars.

Dates are Dec 2 online for beginners/improvers, Dec 9th in person hotel for more advanced.

The hotel one is getting closeish to sold out, if you are thinking of coming please let me know asap especially if you are a regular and came last year.

Thanks for your messages about the new book, glad you're enjoying it, a lot of work went into it.

Often I sat there thinking "how am I going to fit everything together?"

Will this ever get finished, I'd rather listen to 10 hours of nonstop Rachel Reeves than do any writing".

Numerous mails but one reader said his 14-year-old really liked it, had never read a book all the way through in his life.

An email lands from The Telegraph online which tells me my new yearly sub will be £270.

What!! £270! Hang on.

I looked at what I have been paying. £180. That's a steep rise. Crazy!

Time to phone them and threaten to cancel.

I don't want to cancel as I like the daily live business feed.

But surely I can get this quote down especially noting if I was a new would be subscriber it would be nearer £100 or less with some free months.

I want to cancel," I said on getting through. "It's just too much and I can't afford it."

They caved without any fuss. "Ok, we will leave your subscription at £180".

Sensing this was all too easy I smelt blood and doubled down.

It's still too much, I am having to cut back."

I then decided to use good old "cost of living" thing.

It's the cost of living crisis," I said somewhat lamely.

To cut a short story shorter, my new rate became £130 for a year.

For a short call instead of my rate going up a lot I'd managed to bring it down a lot.

I suspect I may have done even better but there was a delivery at the door I'd been waiting for.

Of course The Telegraph is up for sale so it can't afford to lose subscribers.

Feeling rather delighted I wondered about other such subs and Elizabeth decided to have a bash at Sky.

If you phone Sky you get through to the Indian call centre.

But say the magic words "I want to cancel" you get transported immediately to the uk centre.

Anyway Elizabeth managed to get £30 off the monthly sub.

Right, what's next? This is fun.

Ps, pointless trying to get a cheaper yearly deal with me as I don't have a yearly sub.

Hmmm, maybe I should start charging a yearly fee for this website.

How much would you pay me then?

I'll start with 3 months free, then £50. After that, it's £10,000.

Unless you tell me you want to cancel. We'll make it £20 in that case.

Or call it a tenner for cash.

I always like doing/planning things so next up for me is an online music show entitled "I heard it on TV"!

This is songs you never heard before but you heard playing over a scene on your fave show, or in the background.

Some lovely contributions from some of you for this and looking for more.

So, if you heard a song on TV, loved it, looked it up and played it tell me what it was!

Also if you can remember the scene it was playing under, even better.

I'll be featuring songs heard on Breaking Bad, so any memories of songs you heard on that one welcome.

Please mail me your idea at robbiethetrader with "Heard it on TV" in the subject line and of course a full plug for you on the show.

My online live radio breakfast show is on the way too, probably in November, more news on that in the next update.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
no thanks" could work for you.

My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

I hadn't been to see a Fulham game for a while as my son is now working in Dubai but Terry who came to the boat party's brother was off on hol so offered me his season ticket.

Not much has changed there bar the new Riverside stand which is rather impressive.

I suspect Terry now thinks he should never have invited me.

Fulham achieving a first ever of a missed penalty, a sending off and an own goal all in one game.

Must be me I obviously jinked the whole thing and don't expect to be invited back anytime soon.

Terry's brother amazingly goes to every home game all the way from Wales.

That is dedication for you!

Whatever you think of the budget, Angela Rayner is a good speaker even though she sounds like Mrs Rabbit off Peppa Pig.

There was a bit of a love in between Starmer and Sunak at PMQ's, actually rather refreshing.

Like two blokes having a sensible discussion instead of the usual bawling and braying.

If only that would catch on and both Government and opposition could have genuine discussions on how best to take the country forwards instead of cat calling and shouting insults.

Been catching up on tv since not having so much time recently and sadly it's all
been a bit dire.

The Franchise ** Sky Comedy

I was really looking forwards to this from the writers/makers of The Thick of It.

What a terrible disappointment. Not a laugh to be had.

Promising premise: Behind the scenes at producing a mid ranking superheroes movie.

But it's just way too manic and the lines just aren't that funny.

It also has a smug feel and you may need to be in the film business to get all the in jokes.

Thing is I watch TV for an hour a day so it really has to be good.

Sweetpea *** Sky Atlantic

Another promising premise: shy angsty woman gets fed up with being pushed around and
decides to start killing those who have wronged her.

First episode seems a bit overlong but she eventually kills someone.

I assume she'll kill someone per episode but not sure I really want to be there for any more.

Generation Z ** Ch 4
This is supposed to be a zombie satire regarding oldies vs youth.

Trouble is zombies is such a yawn inducing overused genre and it just doesn't work.

It's some fun to see oldies as zombies attacking the youth but after that it's a bit meh.

Perhaps we'll see some pensioner zombies soon attacking the Commons to get their
winter allowance back.

Rivals **** Disney
Hilarious Jilly Cooper bonkbuster which starts with a bare bum and a shag in the toilets
on Concorde.

It then goes downhill from there - it's very silly, a lot of fun which is rather refreshing.

A great 80s soundtrack is thrown in too.

You have to laugh sometimes at things like Haloween and to a certain extent Xmas traditions.

Imagine telling an alien:

On halloween day we allow kids to threaten to do nasty things to adults unless the adult gives them drugs that make them crazy (sugar).

Oh then at Xmas we allow a big bloke dressed in a weird red outfit to visit their bedrooms
in the middle of the night with no supervision.

We also lie to them continuously "The tooth fairy" "Santa Claus" "Peppa Pig".

If any kids over to ours tonight all they will get is a courgette as that's all that's left in the house till Ocado get here.

NEW CLARKSON!

Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.

The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.

Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.

The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

At last the Budget has come and gone which is some relief.

Generally though it was bad for business.

Markets don't like it with the FTSE dropping yesterday and today.

Forecasters now reckon there will be little growth over the next 5 years.

The Nat Ins hit to businesses will unravel next year as workers will get laid off or not
get pay rises.

Various measures also mean inflation is likely to climb again so the chances of lots
of interest rate cuts now look unlikely bar a quarter point in November.

Overall then I suspect this budget will eventually unravel, almost the opposite of the Liz
Truss one.

The previous government went to the Ya Ya School For Toffs and this one went to
the Bash Street Kids Academy.

Why couldn't we get something sensible inbetween?

Why do we still endure this rich vs poor thing? Is there anyone out there in the middle?

I decided to pretty much ignore all the pre-budget anst and carried on as normal.

I assumed probably we were all too fearful and to be selfish the main thing for me was
no changes to isas.

Looking at the small print it says the 20k allowance will be frozen till 2030 which is fine, it
is a decent amount.

When I started with isas it was 7k !

As to Inheritance Tax changes, honestly I just can't get that worked up about it.

I reckon my son will make his own money.

Ok for me, not the farmers though who are rightly fuming.

I don't care that much either about the CGT rise as I only hold one share outside Isa and
spreadbets which is more than £400,000 of Telecom Plus.

That sits in a mouldy old share cert somewhere and I just pick up nice income from it
and no plans to sell it for at least 5 years.

Main thing for smaller shares was the IHT rules on AIM shares weren't as bad as thought so these actually went up yesterday.
I had assumed there would be annoucements re infrastucture spend so..

One company that will definitely benefit from spending on infrastructure will be Hill And Smith.

I wonder if they had an argument.

No, it should be me first, Smith And Hill.

Toss for it?" "Bugger."

One of those companies usually ignored by smaller investors looking for something "more exciting".

It has an amazing run of profit increases every year since 2020 and it even describes itself
as a provider of sustainable infrastructure products.

Given the spending coming on this, HILS should be a staple of any portfolio.

It's not even that expensive given profit rises and though there is some debt it also has healthy fixed assets.

I have put this away in one of the isas and expect to hold for some time, barring a major market meltdown.

I also topped up in my current infrastructure winner Costain.

I know I go on about taking profits sometimes on companies that have gone up a lot the day before a statement.

As often they sell off even on a good report as that was already expected.

It can work the opposite, that is buy one that's been savaged.

If the report even gives a glimmer of things are getting better you can get a good swing up.

I took the chance with Youguv - shares had come down from 1200p to 400p and I figured the statement would have to be absolutely dire for it to fall further.

This worked nicely, the statement wasn't so bad.

There is probably more to come as there is a potential recovery here and it now seems cheap and hope for another 100p.

I'd been watching Craneware which seemed at support and saw it begin to rise strongly so
I missed a few p as I did an Ocado order first which cost me.

It had come down from 2400 plus so it seemed like a good time to buy.

This market leader in value cycle solutions for the US healthcare market might make a statement at its agm on the 13th.

Though it isn't cheap I wonder about a bid from the US as this sort of company is valued a lot higher there.

There seems to be sudden interest in it, so maybe there is something good coming. Speculation of course.

I've added to my very speculative share Filtronic.

This is the one which makes products for the space iindustry with big orders from Space X.

It claims to be in advanced discussions in a statement today over new contracts.

It also says it is seeing wider interest in its technology offering.

Given all this is might be the high rating is deserved and my thought is to ignore
volatility and leave it to see what happens.

If it gets some bigger contracts it does have the potential to blast off.

I've taken out some FTSE 100 shorts both as speadbets and in the Isas.

If the fallout from the budget continues more falls are possible.

And November is often crap anyhow!

I used TN for my FTSE short spreadbet as the spread is so tight at just 0.6.

Link here:

Re the short in the ISA, details of how I do it are in the new book (Naked Trader 6)

See page 277 onwards in the chapter regarding what to do if the market tanks.

>

Please, please ensure you know what you are doing with an Isa short before doing it.

Like buses you wait for a bid and then three come along at once.

Good, Equals and Eckoh have all seen bid action.

It became clear something was happening with Good and I picked up some more as it was rising fast.

There's now a bid for Good - one suspects it might be around 400p judged by price action but also suspect Good will and should be asking for nearer 500p.

Likely then I think shares will either fall back to 300p if rejected or rise to 500p plus on perhaps even a rival bid.

Whichever it looks like Good won't be around without a takeover for much longer.

I don't think there will be a rival bid for Eckoh so sold most of them today at 52.77 just a tad under the bid price which bags a nice profit of £2,539.

Bytes hit a trailing stop raised to breakeven and went for a profit of £20.

Same comment for ELM which went for a loss of £53.

It's been a fab couple of weeks with lots of big risers in my bigger positions.

My last 4 picks here have seen fab rises too especially Paypoint and Morgan Sindall.

Morgan Sindall came up with a nice ahead of expectations statement which saw a large rise.

I decided to hold onto the shares as believe there is more to come.

Me Group International is showing very nice rises and is breaking out fast.

Something brewing?

Cohort rise nicely yesterday.

November can be a difficult month before a usual December rally so I urge caution, beware of what you buy!

I'll be covering the Santa Rally at my two seminars in December live.

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

SPREADBETTING
I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.
