Back to the last bit of the Sri Lanka trip you'll be glad to know.
Where was I?
Yes, we were sitting on a scary sea plane trying to land wobbling all over the place.
Pull up!" said the plane.
Lucky for us the pilots we were sitting behind did, we wobbled about then thankfully landed,
It was a brilliant 45 mins in the air, so in Sri Lanka instead of a 7 hour drive do get a sea plane!
Off then to a lovely hotel by the ocean in Thangalla.
Breakfast was crazy.
You get a heart attack in a basket.
Chocolate doughnuts and muffins, two slices of some kind of cake, oh and a piece of toast.
Our best meal then happened.
This hotel doesn't like you to go out. There's a massive gate that's always shut.
We asked the manager about going outside the hotel and he claimed they were all rubbish and he couldn't recommend anywhere. But we escaped!
We bagged a Tuk Tuk and took a chance with a tiny restaurant on the beach.
Take a bow the "Ocean Breeze Dining Club"
Don't worry, no need to be a club member.
Run by a lovely chap, there are only 8 seats on the beach.
Menu is simple. Freshly caught fish with chips and salad.
We chose a giant Red Snapper.
Twilight hit, and of course I was worried about my mosquito enemies taking some massive chunks out of me.
No fear here. Massive mossie repellant lanterns are lit around us all and a bonfire making the whole thing quite magical.
The fish is simply grilled but with lots of herbs and goodness knows what to make it tasty,
If you google the ocean breeze dining club there are loads of pix online to give you more of a flavour of what I'm talking about.
If you go to Sri Lanka, put this on your itinerary !
Next stop is a long drive to Galle. And a very very "White Lotus" style hotel.
For me though the service is just too much!
We have a "butler". This means the moment you try and leave the room he appears out of nowhere.
It's fine, we don't need anything"¦. We spent a lot of the time trying to dodge him.
At the pool, you get a cabana. A guy comes round every 15 minutes,
Watermelon, coconut juice, passion fruit lollies"¦ Don't move, sir, more water?
Galle is probably the most touristy place we went to.
But it was marvellous seeing the education there, remarkable.
Boys and girls from 5 to 18 wear very smart uniforms with ties and are very respectful.
Eager to learn. We passed a sports day. Lots of physical activity.
No phones, vapes, cheek or laziness. All paid for by the government says Douglas.
We spent a final night in Columbo before waving Sri Lanka goodbye.
And finally here's how good a marketeer our driver was.
With a hour to go before we parted and we were about to visit an atm to give him his tip for the week, he presented us with presents.
Two mugs, blue for me with a pic of me and Douglas on it.
A pink one for Elizabeth with a pic of her and Douglas on it.
Probably cost him £2 but brilliant emotional blackmail.
And indeed it worked, giving him a bigger tip than we originally had decided.
Nice one, Douglas!
Then it was off back to Dubai to see our son who has just turned 20 for a few days who is working there.
And to our delight doing rather well.
He took the gamble of swerving "Uni" and heading straight out there to find his fortune.
He bagged a job at a top property broker and is busy with sales and lettings.
He's learned an awful lot about the business and has bagged himself lots of commission.
And just for you readers (well he is a top salesman) if you are thinking about buying or letting in Dubai let me know and I'll put you in touch.
He has promised to get you a lovely place in Dubai or a letting and he will give you half his commission! Which is usually quite substantial!
Overall then? If it's a choice between India and Sri Lanka, I would go India first then Sri Lanka.
I did a podcast with Zeus Capital and Nick Searle who is the most lovely chap.
He even posted a lovely handwritten thank you letter afterwards. Sheer class.
You can hear be blabbing on about how I came to be a trader and suchlike.
> scroll down to find the one with me.
Took the credit card tracker with me to Sri Lanka. Used it twice to locate where the cards were!
Do get some credit card style tags they are wonderful and just over £20!
Link to the ones I bought:

Thanks for the comment on my show about songs you heard on TV.
Some of you have sent me some songs you liked and heard on TV so it looks like I can do a second one.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.
Gary:
The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Naked Rambling
Instead of regular check ups, apparently the over 50s might soon be offered a daily pill!
Yes, folks, all in one pill will take care of everything!
No need to go to the doctor or to a and e, just take this magic pill.
And are you fat? Simply inject yourself daily.
No need to worry about the side effects of any of these things, surely a few side effects are worth it"¦
My doctor is annoyed I won't take statins.
Even more annoyed when I tell him stats I've read means in general they just change a number and that high cholesterol may not mean you get a heart attack.
The BBC Chairman has spectacularly shown how out of touch he is with football fans.
He thinks Match of the Day should not be about the highlights but mainly analysis!!
As football fans would say "You don't know what you're doing!"
Ask any football fan and they will tell you the exact opposite is what is wanted.
Why doesn't the BBC just put 10 mins of highlights from every game online?
(Probably because the viewers for MOTD would fall by a half).
Those of us who support the smaller teams (in my case Fulham) usually have to wait till 11.30pm to see any highlights.
The White Lotus **** Sky
The series is slowly ratcheting up the plot and continues to be a great watch.
The female bitchy trio gradually falling apart is the highlight followed by the antics of the teenagers.
And where is that gun going to end up? It's all great entertainment.
Zero Day *** Netflix
Not a bad series but a whimper of a finale.
Feels like Robert De nero and the scriptwriters got a bit bored with the whole thing towards the end.
The US President is a cardboard cutout unlike the present incumbent.
Still, it's a short series and just about entertaining ignoring the massive plot holes.
Anora ***** Amazon
I can see why this movie won so many awards.
A bittersweet take on a lap dancer who gets involved with a rich Russian lad.
Lots of fun, and let's put it this way: a climactic ending.
A definite watch, only a fiver to rent. (Cheaper than a lapdance apparently).
Toxic Town *** Netflix
Based on a true story, residents of Corby rise up against a corrupt council.
The council boss makes a decent villain though it's a bit slow in places.
A brave whistleblower gets many affected some compensation after the council ignores safety rules on some building sites.
Nicely done and only 4 episodes so there isn't much padding.
The Au Pair **** Ch 5
This is terrible! Au Pair gets hired and seems intent on killing the entire family.
Awful acting, terrible script, dozens of plot holes and yet"¦..
I can't wait to see what happens next!
Hats off to the actress playing the au pair. She's managed a whole heap of "evil looks".
Chess Masters *** BBC2
An attempt to make chess sexy doesn't quite come off in its attempt to be The Great British Chess Off.
Host Sue Perkins hasn't got much to work with though she tried "He whipped out his bishop".
It is very hard to make chess interesting on TV. I enjoy chess myself and play a little but not so sure I'll be tuning in much though I will watch the next.
The Treasury is upping payments for those who want to grass up others for tax fraud.
Don't worry your tax secrets are safe with me! You can tell me anything and I would never say a word.
Hang on, how much?
Actually I wouldn't trust me if I were you.
I'm setting up an "Only Balds" fans website.
For a small fee (say £1) we will gradually remove a baseball cap.
Very slowly revealing our beautiful sexy glistening domes.
For an extra fee (call it 50p) we will slowly remove our pants.
(Afraid there might be some hair involved).
A newspaper offers up:
Everything you ever wanted to know about your penis."
Lucky I don't need to read this.
Frankly I think I have got to know it pretty well.
We have no secrets.
Have we, Percy?

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets
Well, a certain Mr D Trump has caused some craziness in the US markets, some of which has fed through to the UK.
Markets just hate uncertainty and with Trump who knows what on earth he will say next?
After all he's nearly 80 and doesn't seem to give much of a stuff and will just say what he thinks in a given minute.
It is quite amazing that one man can say what he likes and do what he wants without any collective responsibility at all.
Anyway this poses problems for us investors as the uncertainty feeds through to the UK as well.
When you have someone so important who can say one thing in the morning and change his mind by the afternoon, well that is a problem.
You should have a plan in place to deal with tougher times and volatility.
And that's not easy to figure out though it depends a lot on how much time you have to spend on trading/investing.
Do you take action immediately? Sell some stuff off, or just keep holding, figuring things will bounce back. They usually do.
Or just go "Sod this for a game of soldiers" sell everything and wait to come back later in the year?
It is annoying when your good shares get hit just by sentiment.
You kind of know at some point they will come back but it is no fun looking at reduced isa balances.
Having been through lots of this kind of thing over decades I am quite proactive and will take a few losses before they get bigger and also go short for a short time.
I then have the cash to plough in as and when Mr D Trump has got bored and things quieten down.
If you have what you think are good ones with nice dividends, and you are sure about them there is a reasonable argument maybe to hold on for the upturn.
For example I have left most of the portfolio alone.
Main thing is whatever your plan is (have a plan!) go right through your shares and check carefully there is nothing bad likely to happen to them.
Is its debt too large? Its markets are in a downturn? Do you have confirmation bias on it and think it is better than it really is?
Are you going on discussion boards to get reassurance from those with confo bias?
Did you buy it because an internet tipster bought it who will carry on holding it and encourage you to keep holding it even if it goes down every day?
In uncertain times it's usually best to own shares with net cash. Especially a decent cash pile, this does help and make it less likely to badly tank.
My screen for finding great shares with good cash is on Sharescope.
You can get a free trial here
>
My dash for cash screen which finds shares with good cash is on the home page, just scroll down.
I do try and keep hold of the good ones if I can.
If stops hit, I will also consider buying back. I always prefer getting rid then buying back as averaging down can be dangerous.
Whatever, there is no doubt there are a lot of bargains around and I am making a nice list of these and ready to pounce.
I'll take a look at some of these at the hotel seminar on the 4th.
Space at the hotel if you'd like to spend the day with me and some decent investors - lunch, snacks, goodies and a drink in the bar after all on me.
There is an early bird discount available for 3-4 more days. Mail me if interested.
Overall, in the last couple of weeks I have taken a few losses and profits, went short on spreadbetting and in the isa (a bit) and did a bit of top slicing.
But nothing that major really. Most of my main long-termers I have stuck with.
I liked the look of the results of Keller and I bought some.
It describes itself as world's largest geotechnical specialist contractor.
Sparkling results ! I waited for a day or three after results as these days there is always profit taking.
What more could you want? Big increase in profits, big reduction in debt and a bigger dividend.
There's a record order book, and a pe of under 7. That'll all do for me,
I hope to sit, hold, and enjoy what I hope is a 20pc capital gain to come and the 4% plus dividend.
The outlook hints at M and A activity and a good acquisition could be the catalyst for a re-rating.
An interesting one I noticed is Supermarket Income Reit SUPR
Generally reits are held for their massive dividend incomes.
But a lot of reits are getting bid for as there is a big disconnect between their net asset values and market value.
Supr's current nav sits at 90p a share making it look value for any bidder.
These reits are generally valued on their net assets rather than the more usual pe ratio.
A dividend of more than 8pc cannot be sniffed at either.
Even without a bidder looking through its statement there is a decent chance NAV could rise here and while waiting, there is that lovely dividend!
A buy - and a sale of Spire!
I took losses initially on Spire after stops got hit after it announced a profit miss but I bought some back after the fall.
Stops kicked in though not till the price went down first and that
realised a loss of £1,054 for the site and around 5k personally.
However, after a good look at the statement, I did buy some back but a smaller amount than I had previously held as they have now become riskier.
Despite the miss, it seems to me a takeover looks even more likely as a takeover can happen at a much better price for an acquirer, possibly Mediclinic which owns 30pc of the shares.
Elsewhere I topsliced here and there and one or two got closed by stops or trailing stops for both losses and profits.
As mentioned above Spire went for a loss of over £1,000 and Sup went with a loss of £100. I had a brilliant run with MGNS and sold for a profit of £2,666.
Fnx went for a loss of £149 and Data for a loss of £100. I couldn't resist banking the profit in a recent buy of BAE for a profit of £971 after a big jump. I have though kept a longer-term position in BAE Systems.
I've had a great run too with Costain and banked half profits there of £3,680, keeping half of the shares for longer-term.
All of which profit and loss taking adds up to a profit for the website banked of £6,163.
I added a ftse short in the isa - for the mechanics of how to do that see my new book pages
Please read the chapter carefully and make sure you know what you are doing before trying to hedge.
And some ftse shorts worked well in the spread bet accounts.
I wish I had done the Dow but I'm too scared as it is so volatile.
Ive used TN as the spread is so tight:
>
I've also gone back into a short of ailing Spirax.
Although shares went up a bit after its statement it didn't look great to me and I think the downtrend will continue.
Elsewhere the portfolio held up quite well helped by the defence shares Bae, MS, Cohort and Qinetic which all gained or held their value.
The short in Whitbread is now in very good profit.
Same for the short in Trainline, the market didn't like the statement today and I still think shares in Trainline have more downside, profits for the site so far of nearly £7,000.
TN's spread on TRN remains the cheapest after a quick check.
The terrible Boo Hoo has decided the only way to get its share price up is to call itself "debenhams".
Definitely want to buy the same cheap old crap clothes made by slave labour in China now"¦..
I love the statement from long-term hold Games Workshop.
We're ahead of expectations."
That's it. Ok? Now leave us alone!
Well let's see what the next couple of weeks bring.
As I said above there are a ton of bargains about and I suspect I will take the plunge and begin the odd foray into buying one or two of those,
If the market bounces nicely I'll get rid of my hedging shorts.
Whatever you decide, good luck and as they say fortune favours the brave.
If you find a nice one, you really could be buying a lovely bargain!
Teenage Trading Gang Latest:
I am told I should stop "wanging on" (?) about Dodgy Coin now being 15 when they told me to buy it at 46.
It is just because Elon Musk is having bother with Tesla, buy more and get the benefits.
Oh, same with bitcoin (106 to 80).
They are annoyed I have so far refused to do sub stacking or tik tak vids.
They are almost demanding I do it, now upped their offer to just 15 pc commission in Sub stacking subs and 12pc for leads coming via tik tak.
I guess I'll wait and see if the commission keeps coming down.
Oh, their offer apparently is "sick". Or is that sic?

SPREADBETTING
I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread
Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
