Hey guess where I am?
No, not at Tescos buying emergency marmalade.
Or at the rude cafe.
Spain!
Spain, what do you mean, didn't you just come back from India?
Oh no does this mean you're going to bore on about Spain now like you did about India?
Oh yes I am, right just go down to the markets section now to avoid (which you probably do anyway).
The visit to Spain was a "let's just do it" and that's the kind of really exciting guy I am.
I looked at the weather forecast for this week and it looked horrible.
Then I looked at the forecast for Palma. No contest.
A quick Easyjet flight over and we're currently in a lovely villa in the sunshine, one of the ones we use for the retreats.
Those of you who've come on one of the retreats know exactly where we are.
The little pools are closed for winter but they're refurbished the big spa area and I've been enjoying the upgraded facilities.
(Radha the table tennis table has been upgraded so excuses when you lose to Kalpesh again in September).
We've been wandering around a couple of local towns trying out restaurants for our last night out at the retreat, that's been interesting.
Hopefully we will see some of you retreat regulars in September!
I bravely volunteered for the middle seat on the Easyjet flight over. Massive mistake.
Next to me arrived an alpha male manspreader complete with complex ipads, headphones, phones, wires just to make it clear how important he is.
He gave me a look which said: "do not even look at me you runt with your olde worlde scrabble and magazine or try and exchange pleasantries of any kind".
You are not worthy of my greatness and superiority. Look at all my tech".
Eye on the new Easyjet "menu" I looked with horror and saw a "curry" was now an offering.
I knew Alpha Arse would order it. Just to be annoying and stink the place up.
15 mins later. Confirmed. Curry ordered, place stunk up.
Seems he only uses all his high tech to watch tik tok videos.
That's while I read an article about how world war 3 would start soon triggered by China invading Taiwan. Frankly I wish I hadn't read it now. How do you get tik tok?
Worse was to come, scrabble letters got knocked onto the floor. He ignored, adjusted all his tech in other words "do not bother me for those lost letters".
Lucky, due to the curry, he was soon off to the loo when we quickly found the letters before AA (Alpha Arse) came back.
He was in there for a long time. A queue developed. He must have stunk the loo out too.
AA came back, 15 mins later he was back in the loo.
Obviously don't order a curry on an Easyjet flight.
The usual melee leaving the plane, I dived in manfully grabbing the bags and we got outta there.
Ah. Except AA. After pushing his way through to get off the plane first, he'd left his phone behind!
What a shame!
AA tried to get back in against the crowd but was held back.
Sorry sir you cannot get back on the plane."
Poor old AA. How dare they stop him doing something. Didn't they know who he was?
He'd have to wait till everyone got off. Tee hee! See ya!
Ps. Good luck in getting rid of the rest of the Easyjet "curry".
We're currently enjoying some lovely sunny weather here.
Hired a nice car, a Volkswagen T-Roc softop which is a lovely drive, thinking about buying one back home.
Wandering around lots of villages, probably the favourite is Santanyi.
There's a fabulous cafe there that does amazing sandwiches and fruit salads with oats.
It's fun going round places out of season, it's so relaxing!
Just us and a few Germans.
Sadly I can still only say "The cat is under the table" in German which has been of little use to me.
Only "fly in the ointment" with this holiday is I was due to update/email today.
Work on holiday! Should I send a "sorry I went on holiday so tough luck no update this week" message.
But what about my audience! They need me! Well, obviously they don't really.
I weighed it up. If I send out a sorry on holiday message I'd probably end up with a barrage of messages to reply to.
Well done, yes think about yourself don't worry".
You bastard, I was expecting this update".
I joined UW to get your emails, well where is it, eh?"
Go on then, swan around, boast about being able to go where you want when you want you bald..."
That decided it, hence this update. Probably less bother in the end than not doing it.
Plus it means I won't have to do it next week when I get back. Maybe it's time to retire.
Load of bollocks in the UK news about supermarkets all over Spain chaining up bottles of olive oil because of gangs stealing it as the prices have gone up so much.
There is tons available, no thefts here anyway and we had our choice of 200 bottles. We picked the cheapest which was only 3 euros.
It's when you're away from home you realise the drivel headlines in the papers' online all designed to make you click.
There are no water restrictions. And there is no bother at the airport either.
You don't have to prove you have £85 a day or where you are staying. There are no queues for anything.
We're here for another couple of days before heading back into the rain.
But I guess we could stay on. I mean we could even do the online seminar from here. Let's see.
Thanks for all the lovely feedback from the last seminar.
Gary:
The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Naked Rambling
Yes! About time these vets were investigated.
The prices are mad and the insurance premiums even madder.
But having always had cats all my life as I love them, I've only had to go once to the vet.
Generally cats are pretty self sufficient.
Frankly - and I love them - it is better to end their lives painlessly than put them through operations.
Problem is nice independent vets have been bought out by greedy money sucking chains.
It's worse if you have insurance, immediately your pet will have tons of complications that requires even more spending.
Hurrah! In the upcoming United States election there are two amazing women in their 40s competing for power.
Both with fantastic ideas, full of drive, lots of new ambition, brilliant.
Then sadly I woke up.
Isn't it amazing the US election is going to be between two elderly complete arseholes?
A country with a massive population. And it comes down to these two to be leading it!
Just incredible. Putin can't wait for Trump to get in and isolate.
Those Ruskie twitter/x fake accounts bots will be all in supporting Trump.
I was chatting to a 91-year-old lady I speak to every week for Silverline.
I've spoken to her every week now for 12 years and she is still in great health.
She eats whatever she wants, all the bad stuff!
She told me her son had taken her out for mother's day to a movie.
Right from the start and throughout there was bad swearing not only f words but plenty of the C one too!
Her poor son was mortified as this went on! The movie Wicked Little Letters stars Olivia Coleman and many many swears.
Still my lady friend wasn't that phased. "I'd never heard of the C one anyway," she confided.
Her review of the film? "Not great".
Still, she did get to the pub afterwards where a three meat buffet complete with Yorkshire pudding and a couple of glasses of rose saved the day.
Big Brother ** ITV
Yet another re-boot for this tired format.
Perhaps our appetite to watch needy attention seekers has diminished since its heyday.
Some minor relative or other of royalty was the main draw except he got kicked out fast.
The only real interest was Sharon Osbourne dissing pretty much all the big names, especially Simon Cowell.
She's had way too much work done on her face. Enough now. Eeek!
But sensibly her contract stated 7 days only, and she couldn't be nominated. Good work!
The Gentlemen *** Netflix
Come on this was written by AI. Must have.
Write a typical Guy Richie gangster thing - don't forget to include weed factories, a war between two drug gangs, cockneys, cartoon violence, Albanians, and of course Vinnie Jones."
The AI did a good job here, all the cliches are ticked off.
However ignoring all that there is some fun here but the chicken scene is way too long.
Mary and George ***
Costume drama based on randy King James.
There's lots of humping and shagging, mainly gay. Any bum will do.
Hmm, that might make a great song... "Anyyyy bummmm will doooooooo..."
There's not a lot of plot there under the shagging and swearing - social climber uses her gay son to get to the King.
I wonder whether it was really like this in those days?
Is University Still Worth it? **** BBC 1
No is the short answer!
Interesting take on whether it is worth it.
The answer, unless maybe you want to be a lawyer or something is probably no.
Geoff Norcott does a decent job in coming to this conclusion.
I have met Geoff, I hired him to be one of the comedians on a boat party I arranged to celebrate a new book just before he became a bit famous.
He's lovely. Though his first question to me was: "Can I say 'c**t?"
To which I replied: "Of course, no-one will mind, all open-minded here."
He didn't end up saying it anyway so no idea why he asked in the first place the silly c**t.
Rupert Murdoch, 92, is to marry his latest girlfriend who is 67.
The question is what attracted you to an 92 year old billionaire?

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

I have to confess it's been a lazy couple of weeks. And I'm feeling lazy now, typing this in the Spanish sun.
It's made even better because it was a spur of the moment thing.
Of course, our son is 19! No dependents anymore, let's piss off outta here!
Mind you, back this weekend. And only cos we can't get friends to cat sit for ever.
Once in the surprise Spain holiday I felt more like lazing around in the sun than being much bothered with numbers going up and down for not much reason.
And I got lucky too, no major market moves and nothing to worry about, just let the portfolio be!
The budget? Meh! Not one new or interesting idea or movement.
Something dull about NI and I'll get £93 or something.
The "great British Isa" eh. Never going to happen. Bet ya!
I mean I would like it to happen but the new Govt will be in soon and it'll be ditched.
I know this sounds weird but actually 20k allowance for isas is quite generous and we're lucky to have it.
Afraid more likely next year Labour will reduce it, probably to 15k so make the most of it.
Not that it matters much we have spreadbetting, which if you can handle it the same as an isa you can have the equivalent of an unlimited isa.
There are pitfalls though and not everyone can manage to handle SB like an isa.
If you think you could read all the stuff in my SB book about how to do it, the great things and the challenges too.
Link here
All I know is I'm lucky to live in a country when my tax on share profits is zero.
Try share trading from any other country and you pretty much get zero tax free allowance, ask anyone trying to trade from Ireland.
One of my rules is if I buy a share and lose money on it twice I only allow one further try, after that it is out of bounds for six months.
Reason is, you begin to feel the share owes you and get too attached to try and regain lost money.
So my last "go" with TT Electronics which might be turning a corner.
It provides engineered electronics for performance critical applications.
It is extremely cheap, but that's because of the big debt but that's coming down.
Its full year results look like a corner might be turning.
Profits up, dividends up, debt down and cash generation looks strong.
Sensibly it is selling off a few units to reduce debt.
I've thought recently this looks like a prime takeover candidate especially as in some other takeover cases those buying didn't seem to mind debt.
My last effort on this one then. Should the stop get hit I am out for 6 months.
Lazing around on the hols enjoying tea and toast in the sun in the Spanish garden I thought I'd look at the market and idly noted NWF was going up.
Seemed to be buying coming in. It didn't have a great year in 2023 but could it be on the turn?
If next year's forecasts are right it will only be sitting on about 6x which will look very cheap.
It now has net cash (excluding leases).
Dividend sits above 4pc.
NWF has a new head cheese who has bought some shares. Could be a nice riser in time.
GB Group is often touted as a bid target and it would be no surprise to see it taken out this year.
A big disappointment this one for a couple of years now but things may be on the turn.
Looks ripe for a take out so I've topped up with a few.
My defence collection is going great guns and topped up on two of them.
I topped up on a bit of weakness in underrated and under the radar Cohort.
Discussed this one in depth a few times and it's the one defence share I think could be
taken out (probably by a tank).
Annoying it's on sets which means spread can widen out, but I find you can trade it within the spread or even better getting the sell price on DMA.
Also BAE, seems little stopping this one, and it's one just to buy on the dips.
Lovely chart too.
1300p is the level it's currently trying to get through today, if it can manage that soon, could be a nice momentum perhaps taking us up to 1350.
Often takes time to get through a massive whole number. Psychology.
I shorted Legal And General which might seem odd.
It is a fine blue chip and most people buy it for the huge safe dividend.
However, it trades in a predicable range roughly 250/60 back to 230/220 etc.
So it seems reasonable to lob on a short near the top of the range where it is now.
There is a caveat though - I think it needs a guaranteed spreadbet stop just on the outside chance it gets bid for or itself takes someone else over.
So my GS is just above resistance to it going higher at the top of the range.
TN goes a very cheap guaranteed stop on this which I have taken advantage off.
Remember you do need a spreadbet account to get a guaranteed stop. Normal stops with brokers won't work if the price changes massively overnight.
Hoping this one works out over maybe 4-6 weeks. For a Guaranteed stop please find the right button!
(If you have TN just tick the small "guaranteed stop" box then you can't lose big.
Link here:
Please understand fully spreadbetting before you make a trade though, it is easy to make a mistake especially if trying a short for the first time.
Read through all the examples in my book link here:
If you feel after that you still have no idea, then don't do it!
Elsewhere sugar peddlar Nichols came out with a sweet statement.
Was vaguely tempted to take profit but there might be some fizz left in the shares which have a silly spread, they should probably move these to market maker only.
Right, really sorry, got to go, off to see a cute beach half an hour's drive away.

SPREADBETTING
I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread
Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".
It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.
It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.
If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
