** NT - BLOGGING ABOUT SHARES SINCE 1998 **
Great to see a nice group of you last week for the online seminar for beginners and improvers.

I thought it was a nice day and hope you enjoyed the playout music Nike!

Some decent ideas came up, if you didn't get the notes please let me know as it's on a word attachment they sometimes go into spam.

If you fancy a day with me the next one actually isn't that far away, April 19th. Mail for details.

There was a lot more interested in spreadbetting than usual which prompted me to set up an online spreadbetting seminar on June 7th.

Haven't done one for a couple of years, really I just forgot to do any more.

So if you're interested in trading tax free and spending a day with me learning all the ins and outs, the good and the bad about spreadbetting email me at robbiethetrader with "spreadbetting seminar interested".

Included on the day you can talk directly to spreadbet bosses.

Learn how to trade a SB account like an ISA, how to go short and make money on market meltdowns, how to trade indexes, use leverage, make money trading ranges shorter-term and loads more.

Gosh, happy Easter, it can't be already can it... it is!!

Some happy hols ahead in the beautiful sun.. erm dismal gloom and rain.

We have a relative coming over from the states that will be nice and I'll be doing my beef stew, with the meat braised overnight and slow cooked for six hours. Yummy.

Served with some lovely mash full of bad things.

Most of the work is done the day before so on the day it's quite easy.

Forget about Easter eggs they're a complete rip off. A twix will do nicely.

Or remember Caramacs?

I'm having a yummy Caramac on Easter Day.

They got discontinued a while back but are delicious and I found somewhere that sells them.

You know if you know!

Link here:

That link has next day delivery! (in time for Easter!)

Vera who I talk to once a week for help the aged is 91 and was going to hand out eggs to her grandkids.

They don't want them," she says. "They want cash!"

Looks like they are getting a tenner each.

Sadly we have returned from Spain hoping the gloomy skies would have cleared.

No luck. Still, we at least have spent about a month in India and Spain so far.

The usual non "speedy boarding" from Easyjet on the way back.

Looks like everyone signs up for non speedy boarding so there is just a massive crush.

Indeed the one person who didn't have speedy boarding were in a nice small queue.

Enjoyed the last few days in Palma where we have discovered our favourite cafe in Santanyi.

Lovely spot in the village square.

Not really any Brits but quite a few young German families with their pre schoolkids.

It's fun sitting in the sun and watching the world go by.

On our last day a Spanish guy sat with a pint of beer looking pissed off with his life.

He was gradually getting through a whole pile of scratchcards and grimaced sadly every time he surprisingly didn't win anything.

He nursed his bottle of beer thinking out his next move. Wonder how he's doing.

Met a friend at the arty farty Riverside Studios in Hammersmith at the weekend. ("Darling!")

At the entrance was a massive red Dalek from Dr Who. There was some kind of Dr Who thing going on a raffle to win something Who-ish.

And a few likely Dr Who fans knocking around.

So we had to whisper our shared conclusion that Dr Who has been woke pants since about 2015.

Just as well I'm not famous or it would be:

Famous person says Dr Who is woke pants! Groups exterminate and cancel famous person!"

(That's what journalists do these days then call it a story).

If we hadn't whispered it, we'd have been kicked out by the "Whovians".

My friend whispered something along the lines of "Dr Who is a pile of total bollocks".

We had a good view of a young couple breaking up. (non fans I think).

Judged by the tears in the lad's eyes she was knocking him on the head and "exterminating" the relationship.

I guess most of us have been there. They soon walked away sadly.

We could have cried out "Don't worry lad, plenty more fish in the sea!"

Hey you'll find better, the heartless cow!"

Suddenly the Dalek makes loud noises. Very loud noises. Scary noises.

Maybe it's a terror attack with the dalek used to exterminate us?

Hang on, is this the UK version of Squid Game? Quick, run!

Who fans scattered.

Turns out someone had left a bike parked next to the dalek and it was a crazy loud bike alarm.

An angry PA announcement: "Would the person who left their bike next locked up to the dalek remove it immediately!"

Thinking about it, not a bad idea to have a show based on Dr Who where people get exterminated by a dalek if they answer a question wrong.

Thanks for all the lovely feedback from the last seminar.

Gary:

The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

Have you noticed how all politicians have been trained to say "Plan".

We have a plan". Though we never really know what the plan is.

Except if the plan exists at all, said plan will never be executed or is a sh1t plan in the first place.

I think they're told whatever question you get say "plan".

Disappointed to read Private Eye this week to see Lord Sir Keir has bagged more than £30,000 worth of freebies.

He's pretty shameless - football, oh and nice seats for Adele and other concerts.

Problem is they are paid for by companies that may try to leverage said hospitality.

If you're a politician whether in power or opposition you must, or the party must pay for events and not take freebies.

If Labour wants to be seen as less sleazy it must tighten up rules and fire anyone who breaks them.

Why does tax have to be so complicated?

Without an accountant who does my taxes for me I really wouldn't have the foggiest how to fill out forms, what I could claim etc.

Though I realised I'm being taken to the cleaners by a "top" accountancy firm which is charging me nearly £2k a year!

For really simple accounts. I must be crazy. I'm going to use a lovely guy down the road who'll do it for less

But more rules go on more rules and you can't get hold of a taxman (ooops. Taxperson? Taxhuman? Tax identify as a cat person?)

You do wonder if different tax offices worked out a self employed person's tax they would come up with different amounts.

Greggs, Sainsbury's Tescos and others have been hit by tech trouble.

Tills became cash only! Cue most people not getting their food.

Good because perhaps we'll realise once cash has gone we are stuffed if anything goes wrong.

Oh, and the Government could just say "You can't buy any food till you pay that parking ticket" Or worse.

It's time cash payments for up to £100 MUST be taken.

Like in a brasserie at the weekend. I tried to pay, neither card worked, no idea why as there was no problem with them.

I really wish I had enough cash on me to pay with then say "Well arrest me then."

Lucky Elizabeth's card worked. Well, not so lucky for her...

Grand Indian Hotel **** Ch4
A look at some of the top hotels in India including one we stayed at.

Star of the show is mother hen and general manager Ratna who loves her staff
and guests.

Indian hospitality is amazing, they really want to make you happy.

Passenger **** ITV
A pot pourri of Broadchurch, Happy Valley and Stanger Things.

A decent start and no idea where it's going.

Will it end more Broadchurch, Happy Valley or Stranger Things?

The jury is out.

3 Body Problem **** Netflix
Intriguing start from this mega money show with some of the team from Game of Thrones
and one or two of its actors too.

Aliens are soon to come and take over but not for some time.

Lots to take in and it's very ambitious. Where is it going next? I'll be tuning in to find out.

Road House ** Amazon
Ho Hum violent ish fairly cliched remake of an earlier movie.

Lots of blokes fighting, smashing stuff up with a paper thin plot and poorly drawn characters.

I wouldn't bother unless you get really bored over Easter and want some mindless stuff.
There's a lot of talk about fasting.

I'm willing to give it a try on the understanding that tea and toast doesn't count.

Ewan McGregor and Mrs Mcg hired an intimacy coach.

Not a bad idea.

I've contacted an intimacy coach and asked how much the fee would be for three minutes.

My bum is always lovely, fresh and fragrant!

That's because I use lovely aloe vera wipes that are fully compostable and allowed down the loo as they biodegrade.

Deborah Meaden would love them. I love them.

Try: you will love them too and never use manky toilet paper ever again.

Thank me next week.

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Well, things continue to be pretty good at the moment anyway for markets

In general shares are going up as markets are hopeful of interest rate cuts.

The US continues to power ahead (coverage of my US buys on the sub email).

I guess the bull case is, interest rates will come down, market will soar.

Bear case? Bad news will come along, rates won't go down that fast and the market will tank.

Take your pick ladies and gentlemen.. oh and er, whatever you identify as. A mad gambler perhaps?

I will just try and follow from a distance. (.. "From a distance....")

There are inflation figures out tomorrow in the US while we are shut that could cause volatility.

Enjoyed running another online seminar.

The awards were as follows:

Best questions: Adrian. Best tea drinker: Aaron. Best sofa: Chris

Best name: Nike. Best bedroom: Lucy.

We screened a lot of shares.

Always screen for shares. Don't get them from bulletin boards.

Indeed I always strongly suggest not to read bb's or you end up getting heavily influenced by some alpha male who is probably a crazy gambler.

Some ideas came up, and some potential trades to be.

We got quite a few ideas from my "Dash for Cash" screen on Sharepad.

To access that get a free trial there on this link, you can pay monthly.

>

Alpha Group International came up on my dash for cash screen and looks interesting as a business as well as having a massive pile of notes.

Total income is up 73 pc which is very impressive.

Pe is over 20 but I think worth paying that, it you lobbed off the cash it would be a good deal less.

This high tech financial solutions provider also has no debt.

It goes ex dividend next Thursday for 16p. So it should begin the day around 16p lower.

My plan is to sit and hold looking for it to get back to highs over 2000p and pick up the dividend.

On the more risky side, Eckoh is another share that kept popping up on various screens.

It's in data security solutions.

It seems to be in a trading range of 35-45p. While the spread looks wide dealing well within in is easy, you can often get nearly a point off either side.

My idea is for a rise back up to the top of the range but hope it breaks out over that.

In February it reported winning £45m in new deals and contract renewals.

It isn't ultra cheap but it looks quality and winning more contracts could be a catalyst for rises.

But, buying at this point is risky as last year it gave a trading update back end of April.

Shares can head south on statements even if good, so I went in for an initial cautious buy.

If statement is good and shares rise I'll top up, it the statement is a disaster I'll take a small loss.
Frp Advisory popped up during a screen at the seminar too.

This insolvency advisor seems to trade in a range between 112p and 135p-140p so seemed a decent time to buy being able to stick a stop loss in below support levels.

Looks nicely priced at the mo and looks cheapish, with some cash and also a not too shabby dividend at nearly 5pc.

It is spending some cash buying up smaller rivals and has bought GWC to get a foothold in the Isle of Man.

A director bought a decent slug of shares recently.

Looks promising as a nice little trade idea.

This might be a good time to buy some TI Fluid Systems on weakness after a big shareholder sold out causing a fall.
The shares have a very low rating, good peg ratio and a dividend of over 4pc.

It seems to have a nice niche in making stuff for light vehicles.

But there is a problem which is high net debt (not so bad without lease liabilities) which is only just inside what I'd allow.

I don't think there is anything badly wrong here and I've bought for a potential 20pc rise from here.

Science (SAG) is a share most investors think is boring but it looks the type of company you wake up to one day and it's been taken over.

I'd be eying this one up. It does just sit there for ages around the same price but looks like an isa tuckaway and forget about.

It has a pile of cash, net cash of £18m and gently rising figures.

It's also buying back its own shares which at the very least should keep the share price from drifting.

Anyhow I've already tucked it away and forgotten it. I am sure you'll find something way more exciting!
I have topped up on three massive winners, my three biggest holdings.

As Ant or Dec says, in no particular order, they are Cohort, IQG and YU group.

In real life I have more than £600,000 between the three of them as those who came to the online seminar may have spotted.

On website trades profits on YU are nearly £40,000. Profits on IQG around £25,000.

I suspect most would have taken profits by now. In real life, paper profits from the last month are more than £150k.

But I added. I think there is more to come from all three. However different trailing stops have been added, but some way away from the prices given all three can be volatile.

It means I can unemotionally bank some profits if they fall off, but also stay in if they keep going.

Yu's final results were astonishing with profit up 580 pc. But the pe is still under 10 as I write this!

There's a massive cash pile AND a dividend to come of 40p. There may be more to come here.

Cohort keeps winning contracts! It's just announced a £135m Royal Navy contract as well as a £15.7m deal elsewhere.

Truly fantastic and only on 16x, I think over 20x at this stage would be fairer AND it has net cash.

Iqgeo continues to look like a bid target. It's announced significant new contract wins and a 40pc growth in order intake. Not as cheap as the other two but spectacular promise.

So these are my "Magnificent three".

Now watch for profits warnings in all of them which would serve me right and proper from being a giant smug arsehole.

Genus hit targets and went for a profit of £724.

Recent shorts were hit and miss. A loss of £240 on Legal but a profit of £1,050 on Hargreaves.

Good Energy is a weird one and madly volatile.

I suspect it's because lots of pi's are in it (innit) and so greed sets in and the price jumps then massive fear attracts big drops, we're talking 30pc swings fast sometimes.

It seems to swing between 230/240 (fear) and 330/350 (greed). Looks like it might end up doing this a few times.

Buy near the lows sell near the highs it looks like for now.

I sold half of Good before results as there'd been a good run up and it was bound to head south on the day which it did which left me wishing I'd sold it all.

Still, half sale bagged a profit of £1,410.

It has come down right down to support and I bought back the sold shares.

Looks pretty cheap now and already bought hopefully near lows. Pe is very low and it does have some cash and directors seem to have started buying in.

Brokers Cavendish have a target of 500p for Good shares and its note in depth runs through why there is so much value there.

Us Pi's can get some broker notes on research-tree where I get mine, for a small price.

For a free trial and discount go here:

Some disappointments to report.

I mean, you can't ever have everything going your way, not possible sadly.

Robbie has been very disappointing this term" was one of my school reports.

Though not as bad as my art report: "Robbie is one of the most backward pupils I have ever had the misfortune to teach". They said it like it is in those days.

Nichols went for a disappointing profit of £124 and I didn't even get the dividend as it went ex today. And I missed out on a much bigger profit. Bah!

Same for Record in which I recorded a loss of £85.

I've often found shorting "tips" from discussion forums, mags and papers to be quite profitable.

Wait for followers to buy in, price goes up way too much, go short.

Followers start to get bored when overhyped share stops rising, they sell, price goes down, short pays out!

Noticed a Sunday newspaper tipped Beeks. It's also been pumped in other publications and bb's.

Actually it's a decent company going well. It's just that the price has got way ahead of itself.

Directors agree and sold a shedload of shares last week. The head cheese sold more than £3.5 million worth of shares. Maybe he wanted to buy a small garage in London.

Stocko only gives is 12 out of 100 for value, and the forward pe is over 25.

Anyhow I went short, not for a long time but I think 140p looks a more realistic price for now.

Those buying on paper tips get bored and so the share price usually drifts quite soon.

Btw most spreadbet firms don't take shorts in smaller companies like this.

I used spreadex for smaller ones, link here:

My teenage son who is in Dubai to make his fortune working for a property developer tells me all his friends are buying bitcon.

What better signal can there be than to short it?

So I have. Bitcon looks like a Jenga game and the last brick is nearly there to bring the whole Ponzi scheme down.

(Being a coward I have put in a stop, after all there is the bigger fool theory).

Defence stocks keep climbing and happy with holdings in BAE, MS International and Qinetic.

MS Int shareholders sometimes get bored waiting for a statement which rarely comes but recently they have been worth waiting for.

SPREADBETTING
I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
