Naked Trader Radio Show:

Includes lots of chat about shares, fun, competitions, a chat with Claer Barratt from the FT, how to be a dragon to make money. Plus I am joined by AI robot Eli who wants to kill humans and take over the world.

May I be the last to wish you a happy new year!

Be bold! Be brave. And just say "yes" to whatever, go on!! Just do it!

Just stop being scared of stuff will you.

My resolutions are to be bad. I feel I am too good and boring.

So, I am going to start smoking, drinking and maybe try some cocaine.

Oh and eat lots of ultra processed food. And stop being a people pleaser. (Except for the mrs).

What do you think? Will let you know how I get on.

Back from the warmth of Dubai to the shock of the UK cold.

Yes, correct I must be a chav and you can spout off all you want about how you'd never go there.

Sure there is no history there but difficult to beat for winter sun holiday.

Ask anyone why they've lived there for years the answer is always "I feel safe".

You'll never get robbed or your mobile snatched.

I am sure as usual you are fascinated to be able to read some guy you don't know holiday tales.

What do you mean you never even read this, scrolled down to see what I've been buying, grunted disapproval and headed off to a proper tipping site?

Had to be the easiest journey ever thanks to Emirates business class.

Don't even think about using the appalling BA instead, Emirates is it.

Picked up outside home, easy security, straight to lounge, board straight from lounge.
Our bags were already there once through border control which took no time at all.

Then onto a fabulous hotel The Royal Meridien, this place just doesn't put a foot wrong.

Rooms stunning, three pools, loads of entertainment and close to the beach.

The big problem with this top class hotel is the club lounge.

There is non stop free food and drink. The main problem, the sugar on offer.

3pm time for tea. And cake. Tons of cake, lovely cake.

Not just cake. Scones, cream, mini pecan pies, eclairs. You name it.

It's almost impossible not to dive in, Then dive in again.

I was on a sugar high a lot of the time and I am on a non sugar kick right now.

There was a massive TV screen in the gardens, it was fun to watch Fulham beating Chelsea with a nice glass of red wine and some brie.

(This hotel is too upmarket for Chelsea fans of course).

Most of the clientele are lovely folks dun good from Essex,

Very nice, friendly and fun,

Best meal of the holiday was at Roka restaurant, similar food to Nobu but better.

It was great to spend time with our son who has just left his teen years behind.

He has a nice studio flat with a great view from the 44th floor. He is putting in a lot of hours working.

Elizabeth did her best to teach him how to use the washing machine and how to cook.

However we suspect the moment we went the clothes went to the laundry service and the food deliveries resumed from Deliveroo.

The tag shaped like a credit card I put in my wallet with my credit cards came into its own!

One evening I said "Where the hell are the credit cards"?

No problem: quick look and could see they were wandering around Dubai obviously in the back of the cab we'd used that afternoon.

The hotel located the cab driver and we were reunited.

Without the fabulous tracker? Would have made it a lot harder.

Luckily didn't need the tags that were in the passports wallet, managed to hold onto those.

Do get some credit card style tags they are wonderful and just over £20!

Link to the ones I bought:

>

Put one in your passport wallet and one in your credit card wallet or purse.

Thank me when inevitably something gets lost.

It was tough to leave our son behind but another fab Emirates flight back to Heathrow.

And a big surprise on arriving back in the uk, Heathrow was amazingly efficient!

Yes, honestly!!

We went right through passport control really fast but the amazing thing was bags were already delivered .. no idea how they did it.

Back to the reality now of wind and rain but not for long as we leave for 3 weeks in Sri Lanka next month.

Fab Xmas present from the Mrs.

All the stuff about my life you never read since 2006 on the website all printed out and parcelled up in ring binder.

Lovely reminders of all the stuff we've done and one day when we're gone a nice history for our son.

Thanks for the comment on my show about songs you heard on TV.

Some of you have sent me some songs you liked and heard on TV so it looks like I can do a second one.

It's fun to see what unexpected music you heard and enjoyed.

Looks like from emails Remi Wolfe's "Hello Hello Hello" was a favourite along with the Gustav track.

>
Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
no thanks" could work for you.

My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

Here we go, another horrid virus doing the rounds.

I can't believe I haven't had it yet.

I've been up close with 100s (no not swinging).

At seminars, on planes, on public transport.

Nothing caught. Not even a sniffle.

But this lunchtime a friend suggested a coffee at the local cafe.

I arrived and sat opposite him.

I've had this horrible cold," he says. Then he sniffs, then coughs.

I'm thinking "Time to dump this friend".

Meanwhile a bloke on the table next door looks horribly ill and does a massive sneeze into his cheese baguette.

Grumpy cafe owner slams down some brunch with a sniff and a cough.

I'm now crapping myself and hoping I got away with it again.

Sitting waiting for the first signs of something.

But that is it!! I am off to Sri Lanka soon and I don't want to catch anything.

I'm going to stay away from people till then. Please don't invite me to anything.

People are leaving Twitter or whatever the hell it's called now to something else or other.

Why not take this chance and stop using any platform at all?

I'm not on any of these things and frankly I feel my life is better for it.

Ok, I get it if you have a business and need a social profile to promote it.

But otherwise: why not just stop and delete all this apps?

Maybe you can then do other things with the time.

Better things.

Do you really want to spend precious time on this earth reading and fighting with people you don't know online?

Or get wound up by wind up artists.

Stop. Go on, I double dare you. Delete your media apps!!

I know you won't though. Just too addictive eh?

Back to Netflix after 4 months off as there was nothing much on it. So catching up.

Squid Game 2 Netflix ****
The crazy show from Korea is back with its kill the plebs game.

Winner is back with vengeance on his mind and joins forces with a cop to get the game stopped.

Seen the first two, it's a lot of silly entertainment. Just glad I don't have to play Russian roulette.

Underneath the cartoon violence are some sharp lines, you could probably base a phd on this.

Hope they play the glass game again..

Departure ** Netflix
Written by numbers cliched airplane disappears thriller.

Pretty poor scripts and acting - just about worth a quick fast forwards through maybe.

What are the baddies after? After a bit, it's hard to give much of a t***.

There are a few new dramas knocking about, I'll catch up on those next time.

Though not going to give them any time unless they're good from the off.

New series of Severance starts on Jan 17th on Apple.

Do watch the first series, it is a cracker!

A new series of Dragons Den tonight with "Guest" dragon Joe Wicks.

Not sure I see the point of guests, just stick with the format!

Will Peter get more benign this series and Deb more grumpy?

(Don't call her Deb whatever happens).

Drinking Plant Based Milk Increases Risk of Depression." says the headline.

Just drink actual milk!

I'd be depressed if I had to drink that horrible muck (oat milk is full of sugar, don't drink it says my dentist).

Police have suggested playing classical music to deter burglars.

(Not too loud in case you upset the neighbours).

I've a much better idea.

Play "Baby Shark" .

Guaranteed no burglary.

A man has been accused of breaking into a farm and having sex with a pony.

Afterwards, the pony commented: "He was pony."

NEW CLARKSON!

Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.

The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.

Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.

The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets

Yet another stock market year. What will it bring?

Will the US continue to power ahead?

Will the sluggish UK have a bad one as the new Government's tax rises hit hard?

Or are UK shares so cheap there'll be loads of bids for UK companies making us UK shares holders a fortune if we buy the right ones?

If only we knew.

Mr D Trump takes charge shortly and that may well provide a bump to the US market.

But here in the UK is there a bit of a sinking feeling?

That feeling is that the new Government has proved disastrous economically so far.
Reports this week are it is overborrowing and worse, more tax rises could be on the way.

Or we could be facing stagflation which is inflation with no growth.

Could UK shares sink while the US rises early this year?

Or there is a bullish view for the UK is that our shares are so cheap so look out for loads of bids.

As usual I will just follow whatever seems to be going on and riding whichever wave it is, long or short.

Coverage of US shares and higher risk ones on my sub email (just a one off payment forever)
mail me if interested.

I'm a bit wary of doing much at the mo, mainly because I am in Sri Lanka for a lot of February on a trip and may be out of touch.

That's fine with longer-term trades.

But new ones take a bit of looking after so only pressing any buy button for now if I'm convinced it looks good.

One share that looks likely to do well in 2025 even if other shares slump is Spire.

It's spent a lot of the last year or three knocking about between 210 and 250.

But we know almost for sure the new Government is primed to use private operators more, it really is going to have to in order to get the NHS vaguely functioning properly.

Pretty likely this year it'll get bid for.

There are some giant hidden assets in its properties and it's going to get very busy.

I'd guess a take out might have a big upside.

My plan is to hold for as long as it takes unless something dramatic happens.

Defence giant BAE has seen a slump in its shares, I reckon probably overdone here and have bought some back that were sold recently.

However there is a chance it's a falling knife so got to be careful.

It's won another contract and likely the share price will gradually recover to its previous high of around 1400p.

It's a high risk idea which I covered last time in the higher risk bit of the sub email but the rotten stinker of an IPO Canal Plus might be undervalued.

This one tanked right from the start.

At one of the recent seminars we saw what a stinker it proved live.. the first buy was at 299p and it then dropped to 200p.

But.. just maybe there is some value after the sell off and I picked up a speculative few.

But only a few as it has wild gyrations, sometimes 10pc in a day as the market can't work out where to value it. Which makes it a high risk.

Apparently one of the reasons for the sell off is that French investors aren't allowed to hold the share and so they were sold off on technical reasons.

Pretty hard to value Canal Plus, a French media group which made the Paddington Bear movies.

But the valuation is now a lot lower than expected so I've taken a little gamble that it is worth a lot more. At some point.

I am afraid I think hospitality and retail will be badly hit this year.

So I am looking for shorts in this area.

I do feel sad about this as I want retailers and hospitality to succeed.

But, with minimum wages going up, costs and energy up it doesn't look good.

Local restaurant owners are despairing regarding the tax and cost rises.

I am already short of Whitbread and I added a short in Wetherspoons.

It is a great company no doubt but also little doubt it will struggle later this year with rising costs, especially staffing.

So, as Lord Sir Alan says I am shorting "with regret".

I have also gone short of the FTSE with a loose stop, fairly small for now but will add if it starts to tank.

TN has the tightest spread here:

>

And also shorted the FTSE in the idea using an ETF

For full details on how to do this see from page 273 in the new book.

>

I do beg you please before attempting to short to understand the risks and the staking.

If shorts go against you and you don't take action you can do your brains.

I did some pre Xmas cleaning out of underperformers and some profits taken too.

Losses: Hils £81, Ncc £51, Rnwh £610, Crw £104 and Ams £582.

Profits: Crw £1,202 and Fch £1,024.
Elsewhere Cohort announced another contract win today.

This one is going well and looks like a super long-term hold perhaps ending in a nice bid.

The teenage trading gang assures me Dodgy Coin will soon go up 500pc even though since I was told to buy it it's gone down 25pc.

Don't sweat it, bruv, Elon is the man and will sort it." they added.

Remember this IS the place for the latest in crypto!

I would also suggest getting my book on spreadbetting if getting into this.

This includes tons of worked examples, where to place stops and how to ensure you don't do your brains if it goes wrong.

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

SPREADBETTING
I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

One or two of you asked about how we got our car back after it was stolen, we used apple airtags, hide them in your car or under your bike seat and get your car or bike back, amazing.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
