I am booked in for the hip op on Oct 14th - looks like recovery is 4-6 weeks.
That means no beginner/improver zoom seminars now till Nov 25th
see above for more details.
I can't wait for the op now as the hip get a little more painful every day -pretty much bone on bone now.
I'm really struggling to move and when I do it starts to become
painful. At times it is really horrible and not being able to
do exercise isn't fun either. I'm now counting the days to
get it done".
I have to go in for an assessment next week and finally a virus check - hopefully will pass both those.
I think will have to give restaurants and pubs a miss to be on the safe side as I could really do without catching the virus or else the op would be postponed.
Thanks to all of you who wrote to me who's had the op - you tell me not to worry
and that not too long after the op I will feel amazing once I can walk around
properly again.
If you feel pain and discomfort in your hip and leg area go and get an xray.
I went to physios who diagnosed a muscle problem then a doctor who just
said "Do the exercises".
It's only when I got the xray I knew what it really was. Never mind, won't make
that mistake again. If I had got the x-ray a year ago I wouldn't have spend this
year struggling to walk.
Anyway hopefully all's well that ends well and 2020 can be written off as a
bummer with a bright 2021 ahead!
A giant well done to my sister Nica who owns and is
the boss of Nimax Theatres which operates
six west end theatres - she has taken a very brave decision to open up
and make losses so she can keep a lot of the staff on and so "bravo" to her.
She was so worried about having to lay staff off and has decided to take no
salary herself - with seats removed and the cost of covid restrictions every day will bring losses.
But she wants to provide employment and get actors and others working again.
Some shows start next month, do go and see the hilarious Adam Kay: This
is going to Hurt at the Apollo from Oct 22. We saw this last year and his
tales of hospital life are funny and moving.
I'm not a musical fan but Everyone's Talking About Jamie is fantastic. Real
feelgood stuff.
While of course my sister will make a loss on these - the good news is
for theatre goers is there will be a lot more space and legroom! If you
like theatre go and support Nica's brave decision. All the shows can be found at her theatre group's website
My other sister Georgina has been doing some amazing work during the virus with her dance school with all kind of zoom performances for pupils. I have two incredibly hard-working sisters. What happened with me? I picked up the lazy gene.
It will be interesting to see how it feels to be forced to lie down for some time
to recover from the op. I suspect Netflix will quickly lose its appeal!
Thanks for all the feedback on the online seminars, latest
from David:
Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.
I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "ËœBetting'.
I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....
.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"
Naked Rambling
I wonder if some people are secretly thinking: "Lockdown for xmas -
yes please!" Great excuse NOT to have to make obligatory visits?
It can't be easy being in charge right now but wouldn't it
be lovely if those trying to sort out the covid mess would just say:
Sorry we did screw up here, we're doing our best. This is
why we are struggling to provide tests but here's what
we are doing to make it better."
The endless pretence that everything is fine and no problems
with testing is what's annoying. Boys and girls, just be honest.
We get it that it's difficult and we probably wouldn't be doing
much better if we were in govt ourselves - but please, just
admit when it goes wrong, all of us would prefer it and it
would be a breath of fresh air!
Ok who's reading the Tory wife's diary?
Urrrgghh! David Cameron.. "He stays up to admire Keira
Knightley's nipples when she comes out of the fountain in
Atonement". It gets worse.
David talks a lot about sex. He asks me not to walk in front
of him. "The scent you are wearing makes me want to grab you,
push you into the bushes and give you one!"
I stopped reading for a while, feeling slightly nauseous.
Though she has it right here: If a woman came onto David or my
husband they would run for the nearest shelter - probably under
their wives skirts..."
If you think this is bad just wait a few years for the no holds barred
diary about Boris J. I suspect rather than "give her one" it will
be "give her "six or seven".
It's going to be nosy neighbour Britain. We're going to be encouraged to tell
and spy and report.
We already know Liberal Democrats spend all their time poking around in other people's business but now we're all allowed. Also they say lockdown has brought out the worst in us - we can't see or fight the virus so the lack of an enemy is turning us into each other's enemies.
Well, I am never going to write to any authority to complain about anyone or tell on someone.
I really hope covid doesn't send us into a spy society. Can we all just
mind our own business?
All or Nothing Tottenham Hotspur (****) (Amazon)
Hugely enjoyable look behind the scenes with the star of course, Jose
Morinio. He swears a lot, tells players they are lazy and plays a lot
of mind games. He thinks the players are too nice and wants them to
be bastards. He engineers fights between players which he loves.
He also loves the word "mentality". And balls. You need big balls but
you must never touch them during a game. There is just no time.
Also interesting is boss Daniel Levy who is the money guy. He spends £55million on a player Jose thinks is a bit crap and won't play him much. He explains how hard player transfers
actually are to execute. Easy for fans to demand but tricky in real life. Pre Covidyou never saw so much handshaking between blokes. All the time, every day, every minute!
Britain's Got No Talent (*) (ITV)
Goodness what happened? Simon Cowell badly missed here but the acts?
Awful magic (same tech used for everything) and the schmaltz!! The back
stories and all. The slowness! The endless "judging". The boring singing.
The long-winded intros and time wasting. It's time this
show got the axe.
The Third Day (***) (Atlantic)
Hmmm.. not sure yet of this Jude Law horror (I suspect) type
yarn. It's done enough to keep me for ep2 and apparently there is an
ambitious live episode to come. Lots of nice arty camerawork and such.
Away (****) (Netflix)
Based on a first manned mission to Mars. The five chosen have to spend
3 years away and 50-50 chance of not making it back. Very different and
interesting themes though one of the episodes goes a bit over the top
schmaltzy. Definitely worth a view.
Des (*****) ITV
Big congrats to ITV for this brilliant drama based on the
mass killings of Dennis Nilsen.
David Tennant is in fine form - the writing and period detail
is great, loved the co-op washing up bottle by the sink, we
all had those in the 80s. Only slight thing is the smoking - all
the main characters are at it all the time!
Well done to all involved in this - when we want to we can make some
great things in the UK.
Who Wants to be a Millionaire (****) (ITV)
Clarkson has really re-vitalised this with fab sarcastic comments.
The million winner was so lovely, aren't you glad he won it. He's giving
a lot away and will have a happy retirement. What knowledge though a bit
of luck that he didn't get a which was the last Girls Aloud single type question.
He said afterwards he wished he'd used a phone a friend to tell
his dad "I'm going to be a millionaire!" That would have been great!
Right, off to the shops with the Mrs. I asked her not to walk in front
of me . She said if I want to give her one no problem! Except
I think she was talking about a Rolex.

MARKETS
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

MARKETS
Naked Trader Radio show featuring lots of virus bounceback
share ideas, plus tips for newbies for beginner click here:
>
September can be a tricky month in the markets. It has the
one of the worst records of any month - usually ending up down.
It had a bad start - quite a few blips and trying to recover. It's also likely
to be very volatile with hope one day and fear the next.
Yesterday it was all gung ho, and today it is timid.
Any beginners out there might want to keep stakes small for the moment!
For the time being trading as normal though with a hip operation
looming next month where I may be out for the count for
a while I need to be careful holding anything too crazy as I
might struggle for a bit to concentrate on markets.
I had to laugh. There I was doing a live zoom seminar last week spending quite a lot of time on how
many zeros to use when making a spreadbet.
Be careful," I warned throughout. "Make sure you always check your exposure pressing buy."
Guess what happened next. The expert (ie supposedly me) put in one zero too many when buying Avon Rubber live - and instead of buying £4,000 grands worth as my intention I actually bought £40,000 !! In my defence there were lots of people staring at me from my computer and I was distracted by the chat function too. That's my story.
As is total luck for me since then the shares have soared higher and the fat finger
trade is already up by more than £5k !
After that Avon Rubber is definitely my top holding and between my isa and
spreadbetting I have £200,000 plus. It has just bought Team Wendy which looks
a very decent buy and should push up profits. Downside is Avon is a tricky
customer usually starting with a silly spread early doors and is highly rated.
Unless anything really bad surfaces I'd hope to hold for a lot longer.
If you want to see me trade live, this time hopefully without a mistake, there is space for a beginner and improver event on Nov 25.
Mail me at robbiethetrader for details and costs.
I bought some Clipper Logistics (CLG) This one looks in a sweet spot at the moment
With online trading continuing to boom Clipper helps to dispatch products and
also returns. A lot of returns in the fashion world I guess.
While it appears to have a lot of debt that would normally count it
out for me it's because of new accountancy rules and that's balanced out with a mass of net fixed assets.
It's already gone up a bit but that never worries me much as if it reverses I'll take a smaller loss.
I bought some Mondi, MNDI a rare foray from me into a FTSE 100 stock, worth over
£7 bln.
This packaging company seems to be in fine fettle and rising nicely ahead of a
statement due Oct 15th when I shall probably be lying in a hospital bed feeling
sorry for myself.
It has had a reasonably decent covid and it's decided to resume paying dividends of more
than 4%. Cash generation is strong and debt is level though just about within my
usual guidelines. If it can get up to the 1600 level plus then 1700 looks
a good target.
I'm having another Flutter with.. Flutter. (FLTR)
After making some very decent sums on it
just recently the falls looked overdone and I am back in, possibly holding for
a lot longer this time.
The USA continues to open its doors to gambling and that should keep Flutter shares
happy. The shares are very volatile but I suspect in a year's time
could be way higher.
I noted ThinkSmart (TSL) shares were moving up ahead of a statement due today
- quite liked the look of it so bought a small amount.
Small, as it's quite a small one so could be hard to buy and sell bigger amounts.
The market liked today's report and has pushed up the shares a bit more. It's
a digital payments business. The company boasts net assets of 62p per share
compared to the market price in the low 40s today.
It also says it has cash of over £9m.
So it's an odd one and looks too cheap to be true! So I guess the market is
a bit sceptical, maybe doesn't like payments cos.
If the figures are all right, the shares are worth a lot more, probably nearer
60-70p. We shall see.
What to make of The Hut Group floated yesterday?
I was immediately suspicious founders wanted out at a terrible
price for new buyers. Actually it may not be too bad. I had a bash
at looking through the last accounts. Or course it pushes Ebita but real
profits aren't that much yet.
But - It's raising £1.9 bln - its net debt was under £500m at the last
results and had turned losses into reasonable profits. Interesting it has its
fingers in a lot of pies and it likes buying property and has property
it reckons is worth £188m.
Floated at 500p it kicked off at 610 for new buyers and
went as high as nearly 660.
I suspect probably the price is top end but I may pick up a few
once the price settles, preferably with a 5 in front of it.
Some brokers won't allow buying in it till Monday some will, spreadbets
no problem !
Onto some losses and profits banked.
Cineworld had a good run but it was always just more a fun gamble than
anything else and I banked a profit of £1,284
Netw has been a big disappointment, market clearly doesn't like it and
missed my chance of a big profit - out too late for around breakeven.
Time to roll out of Greggs for now with a profit
of 396 sausage rolls. Kape went for a loss of
£353 because of continued weakness. But as it's now down a touch
more I'm considering a buy back very shortly, perhaps as soon
as it starts to move up.
Elsewhere Vectura reported this week, shares got marked up and one that
could surprise to the upside. It's heading back to recent highs and any
breakout could be bullish for a major move up.
So, expect September volatility to continue, make sure if you buy something
you really really like it !
That was a strange dream last night. We were setting up a brothel
as a new business idea.
Big discussions about what it should be called. Lots of ideas were thrown
up and I woke up just as we were about to discuss my idea for
a name - "Kiss My Arse".
(A phrase you can imagine both Dave Cam and Bojo have
uttered - and not in jest)

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME
When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
