What a lovely warm summer week!

I've been really hard at work er doing.. Researching.. And er"¦

Ok, I know you don't buy that.

Yes, I have been lazing around on the sunbed in the garden listening to music.

Sadly tomorrow I actually have to do something called "work".

Ok I suppose it's not really work and enjoy it, but my time is not my own for a change.

And really, thanks to all of you for attending the seminar online tomorrow, giving my life some meaning.

Appreciate the answers to the questions I sent you, an interesting mix of people attending.

I look forwards to chatting to you all online tomorrow.

We'll be live all day using live markets and my live accounts, yes you can rifle through my accounts, I don't mind as long as you don't try and hack them afterwards.

There is online space if you would like to join me tomorrow, just mail.

Time for the yearly service of the garden flow pool (bought courtesy of various spreadbet firms!).

The service guy is lovely but he is so hooked on caffeine and sugar.

I know he loves biscuits so I bought a couple of packets.

I was feeling smug, I've not eaten biscuits for a year! Don't need them!

Well, I thought I didn't need them.

After he'd eaten 8 of them I thought just a small bite with a tea, won't hurt.

Ok, half a chocolate biscuit. Bugger: delicious. Finish it off then.

Still half a mug of tea left. Go on, half of another biscuit only.

Silly not to finish it.

You might guess the rest of the story.

By the time he had left he'd eaten 14 and I had eaten 8, both packets empty.

The Mrs could hardly believe it when she got back from her office.

Not one single biscuit left out of two packets?" She asked.

I know, I'm afraid that guy has got a serious sugar addiction problem," I replied.

That is IT!! Never buying them again, I obviously am weak with no willpower whatsoever.

It's the same with pringles. Just NO. If I have a handful I will end up eating the lot.

When it's hot hot hot I turn to this amazing fan I got.

It's incredible, small, quiet, you can stick ice cubes in to make it even cooler, four speeds, a humidifier, night lights!

I really can't recommend it enough and it's only around 30 quid!

Oh for sleeping it's great as there's a timer so you tell it when to switch off overnight.

Using it right now for both the office and bedroom.

People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.

I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.

Interactive Investor is my favourite, I also have my SIPP with them.

Easy to use, and stop losses work well, plus cheap charges.

II has sent me a referral link if you want to try it for an ISA or SIPP.

If you add in more than 10k, you get a free year's subscription with them worth quite a few quid and I get £200 into my account.

Seems like a no brainer here is the link:

Thanks for the comment on my show about songs you heard it on TV.

Some of you have sent me some songs you liked and heard on TV so it looks like I can do a second one.

It's fun to see what unexpected music you heard and enjoyed.

Looks like from emails Remi Wolfe's "Hello Hello Hello" was a favourite along with the Gustav track.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
no thanks" could work for you.

My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

I am not sure why I was suspicious of headlines saying "Pet owners spend £130 on birthday parties for their pets."

I mean, come on, this doesn't really sound right.

After a proper read of it, I quickly realised it is lazy journalists who can fill a page in minutes and stick in pictures of cute pets.

Near the end it's a "survey by Moonpig"

..Which of course happens to mention "Pet owners now send their pets birthday cards" oh and "cushions with their pet's pic on it."

Well, congrats to Moonpig's PR people.

The Ivy - a group of restaurants apparently sent its suppliers a letter saying it would take 2.5% off all invoices it receives.

Cue massive irritation from its angry suppliers.

One fought back rather neatly."

We will put our prices up 2.5% and also halve your credit terms as you seem to be in a bit of bother".

Nice!

By the way, various forums from people who have worked there suggest most of the food is pretty much made elsewhere and just heated up by its "chefs".

That's borne out by some pretty dire food we had at one of those once.

If you want a decent meal and a decent price try the Brasserie Blanc chain which is consistently excellent.

The Fulham Reach Brasserie Blanc we often go to has lovely views as well. Worth joining its email list for some very good discounts too.

The piece de resistance there is the amazing pistachio souffle. Superbe!

An Iran with a nuke is quite scary.

We know Putin, his mate in North Korea and all the other Alpha tossers don't want to die.

But the horrible old bastards running Iran? Not so sure they wouldn't use one.

Probably they would claim their God told them to do it.

They're all nearly 90 too so why the hell not? Let's take all the unbelievers with us!

The crash of the Air India flight was just awful but don't get scared of flying.

Being under the Heathrow flight path at home, remember a plane has gone over every minute for 70 years or so without one crash!

It rained for pretty much the whole year till recently, a few days of sun of course means a hosepipe ban is almost certainly on the way.

We can't even do water when we have so much of it.

Deep Cover ***** Amazon
Well, what a surprise, I found this by accident.

It's a new movie and I thought it would be rubbish as straight to Amazon.

But wow, a British comedy that really is funny from start to finish.
Plenty of cracking lines, the highlight being one about a printer. A definite watch!

Department Q **** Netflix
Highly entertaining drama, a Netflix stab at its version of Slow Horses.

A difficult detective gets his own tiny department dealing in cold cases.

This detective of course has a difficult backstory as always.

It's fun though as he hates everything and everybody.

The Gold **** BBC 1

Second series dealing with what happened to half of the missing gold from the Brink's Mat robbery in 1983.

This second half is more made up than the first but remains entertaining as a determined cop tries to track down the missing gold.

Clarkson's Farm ***** Amazon
Stunning last few episodes, we want more!

It has everything: humour, business woes, great characters, tension.

You can see why Clarkson had a heart problem with all the stress of starting a pub and running a farm.

And you wonder why anyone would be a farmer, a thankless task for often little or no profit.

The Better Sister ** Amazon
Vaguely promising start but then thought why carry on?

All the characters are miserable and unlikeable, so sod them all!

Starsucks I mean Starbucks is "improving technology" to "support baristas".

This is via an "AI tool to help with troubleshooting".

Barista: "AI how do I make the espresso?"

AI: "Press the button with the cup sign on it, you total numpty".

I get the feeling within 5 years no-one under 40 will know how to do anything without their "AI assistant."

A famous Sushi chef is coming to the UK, though it might cost £1,000 to partake.

I'm now thinking I'm going to become a sushi chef.

Just buy great fish and rice, cut the fish into slices and stick the rice around it.

No mess, no cooking, cheap costs, yes I am going to start a sushi restaurant!

Worst thing to start would be a fish and chip shop, all the oil and smell.

Talking "fries" whoever thought of calling them "Skin on fries" instead of "unpeeled fries" is a genius of marketing.

Judges say AI won't take over their jobs.

Let me ask my AI assistant what it thinks about that..

It says: "We'll be the judge of that".

NEW CLARKSON!

Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.

The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.

Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.

The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

MARKETS

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets

So far markets have held up well against a backdrop of serious war concerns.

It seems for the moment markets don't think the old c***** that run Iran will really lob a nuke over.

Of course if this perception changes watch out down below.

Make sure you have a plan for a sudden meltdown.

Suggest you read the chapter in my new book NT 6, what to do in a meltdown.

Well, who thought a "boring" sector such as construction would create so much profit?

I've had two massive wins with great statements from Costain and Morgan Sindall.

I can hardly believe I've made so much out of such boring companies.

I just checked one of the isas and saw I first bought Costain at 62p so I've now more than doubled from that first buy.

Who's next in the sector to produce great figures and push its share price up?

I've gone for Kier Group and picked up some shares.

This infrastructure, property and construction group is powering away.

It's going after higher quality contracts and better profit margins.

Average net debt has reduced substantially.

Given the Costain/Morgan Sindall results could an ahead of statement be on the way?

Paypoint is a share which seems in good spirits.

I've held for some time waiting for the value to emerge and it looks like it is emerging and I've topped up.

It's got a number of revenue streams in deliveries, payments and hampers.

Fundamentals look good: Pe just 10, Peg a very good 0.2 and a dividend of nearly 5pc.

And there's some net cash too.

Looks nicely run. Could maybe attract bid interest at the current price too.

An easy decision to snap up some Me Group International after it pretty much put itself up for sale yesterday.

Looks like the owner wants out, possibly his offspring don't fancy running the business?

Given its laundry business is going well you'd imagine there'd be interest.

A tumble between rival bidders could put the current share price into a spin.

Alternatively shareholders could be hung out to dry if there are no bidders.

I'd have thought 280-300p would be fair.

Looks like a bit of profit taking today from those who bought a lot lower like me.

Hey why don't we all just buy the whole company ourselves? I'll put in 10k, will anyone join me? That just leaves another £900m.

Free photos, and free washing for us all!

I've added some more ITV.

Yes, the perennial takeover target which never seems to get taken over!

However there does seem to be some strength in the shares and you'd have thought the management would be looking at releasing some of its hidden value.

I'll be back with more comments on ITV .. after the break"¦

In order to get more exposure to defence I bought the ETF Future of Defence.
(Code: NATP)

I've had some of these for a year and nearly doubled but long term there could be a load more upside for the patient.

It gives you exposure to defence and cyber defence companies in NATO countries.

With defence and cyber defence expenditure likely to carry on rising sadly this one looks likely to produce more upside.

The outlook for marketing companies doesn't look very good given the prospects of competition from AI.

So I've shorted WPP Group, the marketing and PR giant.

It doesn't look very cheap considering the problems it faces.

I am only slightly worried of a bid for it out of the blue so I've used a guaranteed stop loss with a spread bet.

This means even if there was a bid I know exactly the worst amount I could lose which wouldn't be that much.

TN does a decent guaranteed stop on it without having to place the stop too far away.

Link:

(Remember to click the "guaranteed stop" box).

I am sitting on massive profits from the last few weeks and I have been/am getting tempted to bank some considering the war dangers lurking
I took profits of £392 on OMG.

OMG is what I thought when I read a very unconvincing statement and still sitting on cash after all those months, such a disappointment, I would give it one more try but need a cheaper price, maybe 42-45p. Come on management, sort it out.

Elsewhere a nice profit for Science Group after Ricardo got bid for a nice lift for my stake in Science, and profits for a residual holding in Ric.

For patient holders Science Group looks like a long-term winner.

After all the management there quickly made a net return of £23m fast by selling all their Ric shares.

And that is superb business.

Some more big gainers the last couple of weeks which include Filtronic, Ms and the other defence shares.

Let's see what the news few days bring.

Some kind of war settlement might see some nice gains.

But of course if the mad mullahs decide f everyone, expect some giant falls.

Good luck. See some of you tomorrow for the online seminar.

There is still space for tomorrow, mail me at robbiethetrader

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

I've enjoyed reading "The Psychology of Money".

It's a best seller deservedly with 19 stories exploring how people think about money.

SPREADBETTING
I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

One or two of you asked about how we got our car back after it was stolen, we used apple airtags, hide them in your car or under your bike seat and get your car or bike back, amazing.

Amazon have them, link here:

The steering lock we were recommended and bought you can get from amazon, link here:
I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
