Includes lots of chat about shares, fun, competitions, a chat with Claer Barratt from the FT, how to be a dragon to make money. Plus I am joined by AI robot Eli who wants to kill humans and take over the world.
Lovely to meet some of you online last week.
A really nice group, we had some fun and some good trades came up too.
Thanks for all the contributions to the discussions.
I'm not doing another seminar till after the hols, the online one will be on September 12th.
If you'd like details email me at robbiethetrader with "online interested".
I'm already getting asked about the big Xmas bash hotel seminar asking for a date.
I decided to get organised, date will be Dec 8th, usual hotel but won't take bookings till October. Chance to take that day off if you need to!
I'm very casually wondering about a hotel seminar for all comers in the first half of October but I am never sure if people just want the online ones.
Can you do me a favour and you think you might be interested in a hotel seminar first half of October can you let me know?
Send an email to me with "October hotel possibly interested", if there are enough replies I can set a date.
I literally have to run!
We're off tonight to one of my sister's theatres, the Apollo for the re-opening of Fawlty Towers!
It's going to be fun.
It's a gala event with an after party with loads of celebs in attendance.
We might get to meet John Cleese at the after party though he is so tall I hope he is sitting down.
My sister says he is hilarious.
The live show is based on about three of the TV episodes and it got great reviews.
Nothing like totally crazy humour is there?
Apparently the Germans even don't mind the "Don't mention the war" episode.
There were only ever 12 episodes, a great idea to have a short run.
We've also been invited to the opening night of Mel Brooks' classic "The Producers" in late August.
The Producers is such a classic, seen it many times.
If you've never seen or only seen some of the TV comedy "Curb Your Enthusiasm" watch series 4.
It's based on Larry David getting the lead on the Producers, Mel Brooks is in it and the whole series, series 4, is a scream.
Suggest if you want to go to either Fawlty Towers or The Producers get your skates on as suspect both will get sold out quickly.
You're guaranteed a great night at either. The Producers will be at the Garrick.
To book both or either go to my sister's website:

That was some hot few days!
The poor cats have struggled.
One of ours is determined only to drink water directly from the tap.
He refuses to drink from a bowl which is very frustrating as I have to lift him up onto the bedroom sink four times a day on request!
Oh, and the tap has to be run .. just so...
The penny dropped recently re cat "miows".
All they've done of course is imitate the cries of human babies.
Ah that's how they get attention" they realised.
Cat number 2's miow is especially loud as he used to live with a deaf older lady!
When it's hot hot hot I turn to this amazing fan I got.
It's incredible, small, quiet, you can stick ice cubes in to make it even cooler, four speeds, a humidifier, night lights!
I really can't recommend it enough and it's only around 30 quid!
Oh for sleeping it's great as there's a timer so you tell it when to switch off overnight.
Using it right now for both the office and bedroom.

People keep asking me which broker to use for their new ISA.
I use mainly Interactive Investor and Barclays and IG.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.
Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.
My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.
You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.
You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.
No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
no thanks" could work for you.
My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.
You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.
If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader and will send you some info.
Thanks for the feedback from recent events.
Gary:
The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.
Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.
The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."
Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!
Dave:
I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Weight loss jabs are soon coming to everyone, possibly the saviour of the NHS.
A new jab, with no history, stopping people eating.
What could possibly go wrong?
Awful to read that Liverpool's striker Jota has died in a car crash.
And just two weeks after he got married.
Just terrible and maybe a reminder to us all our lives can end at any time and make the most of it while we have it.
It's odd not seeing line judges at Wimbledon any more.
But let's be fair, the system does work very well.
I suppose there was a bit more drama when we had the challenges.
The days of "You cannot be serious" are at an end forever.

Same comment for Olivia Rodrigo.
A massive talent who can really belt out the rock numbers and plays the piano.
My favourite is her big hit "Good for You".
Can't say the same for Charlie XCX.
I quite enjoy girlie rave pop but to turn up and pretty much mime is surely a big disappointment.
Without backing tracks, autotune and all the trickery one suspects it would be like poor karoke.
She did give it her all wiggling her arse around and all that.

Noel's Kiwi Adventure *** ITV
Who knows what to make of Noel Edmonds except he is desperate to be loved.
This show produced by guess who follows him as he copies Jeremy Clarkson and builds a pub business in the back end of nowhere in NZ.
He seems rather jealous of Clarkson.
It is fascinating: he has a desperate need to be in front of camera, quipping with a ton of dad jokes.
He's devoted to his wife who he met on deal or no deal. Deal!
He is genuinely talented no doubt but is he really likeable?
Hard to say, but doesn't seem as genuine as Clarkson.
There are some staged bits which are tedious (Mr Blobby ffs) but fast forward those and it is entertaining.
Squid Game 3 **** Netflix
It's the last series of the allegorical satirical cartoonish Korean entertaining but shouldn't be show.
All is as normal, deaths galore adding 900m dollars to Netflix coffers.
Contestant 456 continues to survive at least during the first 2 episodes which is all I've seen so far.
Will Front Man's brother find the island before it's too late?
Who's next for the chop? All I know is don't ask me to play hide and seek ever again.
Sirens **** Netflix
Hugely fun "Wealth TV" entertainment.
Julienne Moore and Kevin Bacon play hugely rich Americans in a White Lotus style.
Yes, again we can watch rich people having a horrid time.
Property porn galore. As a photographer says "They must be bad people, look at their house."
It gets a bit mad at times and it's quite silly. There's a slight element of creepiness with much older guys after a young lady.
But even so a real fun watch and cleverly only 5 episodes before inevitably it would all get too much.
Fubar ** Amazon
Arnie is back playing himself pretty much.
Disappointing return for this, enjoyed series one but better to have left it there.
It started ok but quickly gets so bonkers it becomes irritating.
Stuff coming up this month that might be worth watching:
Too Much "" Netflix. From July 10th.
The return of Lena Dunham of "Girls" fame. An American dumped by her boyfriend takes her broken heart to London.
The Assassin "" Amazon.
Keeley Hawes, a retired assassin goes on the run with her son.
Reader Sir William recommends watching Waterfront on Netflix which is top of my list to view, thanks Sir William, my review will be here next time, see if I agree!
Supermarkets will soon be forced to put lettuces by the till instead of twixes.

MARKETS
EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Markets
How long can this very nice market uplift continue?
UK shares are having a rather good time, possibly spurred on by their perceived cheapness.
But what the hell is going on with this government?
We had Reeves crying at PMQ's, this wiped £3bln from some shares.
That's £1.5bln per tear.
Trouble is, it keeps coming up with ideas, some of which are fine, but then changes its mind.
Again, the real trouble is hardly anyone in charge of us right now have any experience of business and how hard it is.
People I know who run big businesses have told me they have had enough, their businesses are gradually being ruined.
Some are about to sell up, and they are tempted to move to Italy which offers a flat tax or Dubai.
Indeed it was rather sad my 20-year-old had to move to Dubai to get opportunities which he did get and has taken full advantage of.
He'd have had no chance in the UK. He also didn't feel safe in London.
The government claims things are improving but we all know they're not and taxes will have to go up yet again.
But we're all already taxed to the hilt, any more rises and we'll get tipped into recession.
With businesses already suffering us investors need to be a little cautious.
I am on alert that it is possible we're getting near a high so more likely to be hovering over the sell rather than the buy button over the summer.
A few decent shares came up at the online seminar, lovely to meet such lovely people online!
Nice comment from Craig who attended the seminar:
Thank you for a great day on Friday. As a beginner, and half way through reading your Naked Trader book, I was a little apprehensive I would be overwhelmed with the day.
But quite the opposite, great pace and pitched at the right level for everyone online. Seeing Robbie select shares to investigate and even place some buys and top up existing shares has given me the confidence to do it myself.
I would highly recommend to any beginner and I will hopefully join again sometime in the future to top up my knowledge."
Thanks Craig. If you'd like to attend the next one, mail me at robbiethetrader with "online interested".
If you like the idea of a hotel one where you get to spend the day with me and other investors in real life around the first half of October can you mail me with "October hotel interested".
I can then figure out if enough of you are interested.
I bought some Journeo live at the online event "" an interesting small cap.
As we discussed human nature (we want a bargain) makes it difficult for many to buy a share that's already gone up a lot. I don't mind at all.
It bills itself as an "intelligent transport systems provider".
It appears to be winning contracts, recently a £10m framework agreement.
And an order from the New York transport system.
Strong profits and strong momentum could see more upside.
However possible a get out quick might be handy as who wants to buy at a top?
One of the strategies in my recent trading strategies book is to buy shares that are promoting themselves from the AIM market to the main market.
It means bigger share funds have to buy in and sometimes in the early days of membership of the main index they can go up.
Shares tend to go down just before as AIM funds have to sell, then there's the bump up when new funds buy in.
So it made sense for me to buy Exilirr (Elix).
(Even though it's a terrible name and hard to spell.)
Buying just before promotion also meant I didn't have to pay any stamp duty.
This one looks interesting though it isn't without risks.
It describes itself as a challenger consultancy and is using current net cash to buy up other companies.
It also has a £45m debt facility to carry on buying.
There appears to be very nice growth across the business.
Riskwise it seems dependant on some high key fee earners.
It's not far off the bottom of its range and I think it could easily head over 800p especially if funds buy in and it's not that liquid.
It goes ex dividend for 11.5p on July 24th
I bought Elix shares with Interactive Investor because Barclays didn't list them.
I called Barclays, as I expected it was a painful call
Call should have been:
Me: Could you just add Elix to your shares list?
Barclays: "Yes we should have that, it's a fully listed share, we'll add it. Thanks for letting us know."
Actual call:
Me: Could you just add Exil to your list?"
Barclays: Is it a very small company?"
Me: No, it's on the main market of the LSE.
Barclays: Have you got the share's IDOL code?
Me: Yes this is it.
Barclays: What is your intention with this company?
Me: Well, I just wanted to buy some shares!
Barclays: What kind of amount?
Me: Isn't that my business? I just want you to add the share so I can trade it!
Barclays: So you want to trade it?
Me: Yes, it that not allowed any more?
Barclays: Just wanted to know your intention.
Me: I can do what I like without asking you!
Me: Can you add the share or not?
Barclays: I will ask the team to look at it, if we do, it might take 2-3 days.
Me: Ok.
Barclays: I could phone you and tell you if we add it but cannot as you don't know your NI number.
Me: You already know it's me, I gave you my account no, email address, dob my last trade and the name of my cat!
Barclays: We also need your NI number.
Me: Do you know your NI number off the top of your head? I gave you tons of details which obviously ID's me "" but I am only asking you to add a share, you don't need to know who I am!
Barclays: Ok, maybe give me a mobile number and I might be able to call you back and let you know.
Me: Please just add Elix!
This was just some of a tortuous phone call which took nearly half an hour.
Goodness knows how much worse it'll get when the call is answered by AI.
Why did it have to be so complicated? Just add the bloody share!
Update: They called me to say it was disabled "because of a move to the main market".
They also said it might be back online "soon". Maybe " a few days".
I just don't buy this. Surely it must take like ten seconds to add it back in!
Anyhow still not tradeable with Barclays but with everyone else.
I rarely if ever get tempted into buying shares slumping on various warnings but I was tempted into a small stake in Next Fifteen.
A pe of under 5, a dividend of 6pc was tempting and indeed picked up the 11p dividend as it went ex div this morning which is why it started the day down.
It might be on the turnaround with a new experienced boss.
First move is to get rid of some of its poorer performing brands.
This could bring in some nice cash and some better newsflow and I'm looking for a shorter-term bounce up to the 300p plus area.
However it definitely needs a good stop loss and I don't think I'll hang around for the next statement if if rises further.
Another interesting share that came up at the seminar was SDI.
It calls itself is a group of small to medium sized companies with specialist industrial and scientific products in growth sector niches that help solve customers' challenges..
It appears to be growing nicely organically as well as via acquisition.
It looks likely it could keep growing slowly but surely.
H2 finished very strongly it says and it expects momentum to continue.
Its most recent buy is Severn Thermal Solutions which looks a good one.
Oxford Instruments came up at the event too.
Looks like a nicely run company which provides high tech products.
It has come down a fair way and looks very good value especially considering its decent net cash pile.
It's using some of that to buy back its own shares.
It's sold its quantum business for a decent £60m and will use that to pursue new projects.
Looks like if it can make the right buys, there is some decent upside.
I took advantage of a sell off in long-term hold MSI where I have trebled my money on various trades to buy a few more.
Panicky smaller pi's seemed to sell on the bell without realising how cheap this really is.
Short-term profits may not rise as it takes time to recognise new contracts .
But on a two year view, this well run outfit looks good.
It may well dispose of some other side businesses about 30pc of the company which could raise some very nice cash.
It could also surprise with contract wins. So plenty of potential upside and little downside once the smallcap shorter term traders have left the building.
I also topped up in STV.
This one does appear very cheap and I noticed there has been some interest/buying coming into this one which can be pretty dormant.
For those of you who've done Level 2 work with me at seminars it is starting to show some buyers coming in on the buy side.
Possibly bodes well for a nice slow and steady share which has a superb PEG , low pe and a fabulous over 6% dividend, and recently had a nice payment on that.
A spreadbet idea came up at the seminar which was a short in Sainsburys.
A couple of reasons: first it trades in a range topping at 300p and going down to 240p.
Secondly rather be short than long: costs are going up and due to weight loss drugs people are ordering less
I waited till results day on Tuesday and shorted after the little bump up at start of trading.
I don't expect to hold for too long, maybe a month or two hoping for a fall to the 240-250 area. A guaranteed stop seemed wise, just in the tiny chance of a bid.
I took part profits selling half of my Optima which has done really well for a profit of £1,077.
Profits taken in Pets of £514 .
Elsewhere some nice gains.
Spire Healthcare has been on a roll for a while and up nearly 30pc since I bought a few weeks ago.
Excellent report from Telecom Plus which shortly pays a very nice dividend.
Morgan Sindall and Costain have stormed up and Filtronic, Cohort and Chemring all going well.
Supermarket Income Reit has been a very nice investment even without a bid, now at target but I think I will hold for more and the dividend.
And Kooth has been rising very nicely too.
Premium Bonds continue to pay out (I have the full £50,000).
£775 last month and £175 this month, nice. Together with the £5,000 prize last year I am a very happy holder!
If you have £50k spare suggest bung it in premium bonds! Prizes are tax free.
I'm not doing another seminar till after the hols, the online one will be on September 12th.
If you'd like details email me at robbiethetrader with "online interested".
I'm very casually wondering about a hotel seminar for all comers in the first half of October but I am never sure if people just want the online ones.

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.
Boy, what a gripper!
Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.
The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!
Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.
And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread
Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.
Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.
Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".
It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.
It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

One or two of you asked about how we got our car back after it was stolen, we used apple airtags, hide them in your car or under your bike seat and get your car or bike back, amazing.
Amazon have them, link here:

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.
If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
