Link:

There's lots from Claer Barratt of the Financial Times talking about her new book, there's Elizabeth with psychology, a chat with artificial intelligence, strategies from my upcoming new book and tons more. Oh and your comments and terrible jokes too. Winner of the £100 comp was David Meade. Congrats David! Thanks to all who took part.

The new book The Naked Trader's guide to Trading Strategies is officially out and is available from the website below or from Amazon.

Thanks for the kind words from those of you who have read it already, I am really pleased.

Amazon link is here

It is also on Audible to listen to here:

If you don't have Audible a link with a 30 day trial is here

**Apologies to those of you on the email list. The company that sends them out says it has "delays" in sending. Hope you will get the mail soon, not much we can do this end.***

Over the next few weeks we'll be seeing rather a lot of you readers!

Some of you a hell of a lot at the three day investors retreat in Palma next week.

We're staying on in Palma for a proper holiday after the retreat.

Then some of you for a day online on Sept 27th and finally a day at a hotel near Heathrow on October 13th with many of you I've met before so looking forwards to seeing you and catching up in the bar after.

BTW the in person seminar on Oct 13th is the only in person one I'll be doing for at least 6 months so if you want to spend time with me in real life it will be your only chance for some time.

I have to visit the hotel to check my sound equipment still works which has been sitting gathering dust since 2020!

The retreat is sold out but there is still online or in person space, mail me for details. with "Online" or "In person" seminar interested.

We are all set to fly out to Palma at the weekend and myself, Elizabeth and Kalpesh can't wait to see you all and spend lots of time with you.

You get time with me (shares), Elizabeth (market coaching/psychology) and Kalpesh (physio, massage, health and nutrition).

Lots of group sessions and lots of fun too with the big quiz hosted by me to kick things off on the first night.

We'll soon find out who the most competitive participants are!

We already know some of you already who came last year and we've met the newbies online, we think you will all get on really well.

The villas are ready and we have a list of all the goodies you wanted in them.

We'll end with a night out at a non touristy proper Spanish restaurant in a village.

If you are interested in an investors retreat there will be two more in Palma next year, mid June and mid September, drop me a mail for details, but they have been getting sold out some months in advance.

Woke up one morning, opened the curtains for not a great start to the day - no car!

Yes, folks, it had gone, stolen. Curses!

I groaned. Cue loads of hassle, form filling and massive rise in insurance and obviously, no car.

No much for the standard yellow "crook lock" - fat lot of good that was!

I guess, call the police, fat lot of good that's going to be, I thought and that's where I was wrong.

Just about to call 101 to report the theft and assumed we would just get a crime number and we would never see the car again when I remembered!

A few weeks ago we'd hidden an apple airtag in it. Could it... my son consulted his mobile, made contact with the airtag and the actual place where the car now was came up!

Turns out it was now located across London in an estate in Peckham.

Dialled 101, amazingly got through right away. The officer on the other end was rather pleased we could tell him where it was.

He kept me on the phone and remarkably, said three nearby cars were on the way, and five minutes later he told me they'd found it!

We grabbed a cab and raced down there. The Police stayed with the car.

We got to the sprawling estate in Peckham, a pretty run down part of London.

Police told us what thieves do is stick a stolen car in a space, wait a day to see if it's tracked.

Once they see it isn't, car gets shipped off somewhere abroad.

They'd made a mess of the inside, bits everywhere and wires everywhere as they tried to find a tracker and hack into the system.

They'd also taken all the bits and pieces inside including a load of kitchen towels we got from Costco darn it.

But lucky for us there was one thing they never took: a manky old glove.. inside one of the fingers an airtag was hidden. Ha ha, last laugh on us then.

The officers were amazed about the airtag idea.

They all said they were buying airtags and finding some manky old gloves.

The police were brilliant - very quick action at the start and were polite and patient with us.

It's a reminder that fear and bad stories sell and get clicks.

Police were brilliant and couple got their stolen car back fast" doesn't make a story!

We commended them through the police website and got a message back that our commendations go on their records.

So I suggest get some airtags and hide them in your car - these cheap tags work so well and I'm surprised Apple doesn't market them as a car theft defence!

We've got four - two now hidden in the car and one each on our bikes.

Amazon have them, link here:

I should add many put airtags in their luggage so if BA loses your bags at least you know where they are and we will be putting an airtag in each of our bags for our trip to Spain.

We were advised against the standard yellow crook locks and go with a sturdier option with added alarm which apparently puts them off.

The steering lock we were recommended and bought you can get from amazon, link here:

The alarm works really well on this lock and the police tell us that does put them off.

Thanks for the feedback on the new book the Naked Trader Guide to Trading Strategies, delighted as it's a bit different from the others and you never know how a new one might be received.

I don't expect you to use all the strategies, the idea is to find the strategies that suit you and your personality best.

Amazon has it for same day or next day delivery here:

Well done to David Meade for winning the £100 love comp on the podcast amazing work and also thanks to all of you who took part.

Most of you were very close but David was spot on!

Enjoyed meeting some of you at the online seminar recently.

It's very tiring doing them but worth it for the feedback like Robert who said:

The best course I have ever been on. Seeing you work through the process was eye opening and amazing."

Thanks for the lovely feedback like this from Chris:

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long.

Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

Too many best bits to mention, but I was impressed that you had read all the questionnaires and had something to say about each one.

Also, I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "ËœBetting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

Hands up who thinks changing Twitter to "X" has to be the worse change of branding ever?

Yes, me too!

Twitter is/was a brilliant brand and says what it does on the tin. X means nothing.

But if you have an "X" account I urge you: delete it!

I promise you after a few days of missing it you'll feel great.

No more wasting your life looking at right plonkers talking crap or driving you crazy.

And admit it, when you post it is just to show off right? And why get into fights with people you don't know and will never meet?

Indeed I suggest go further. Delete instagram! And tik tok! And all the other sh1t you don't need.

It is all a waste of time bollocks which distracts from meeting and talking to people properly and will probably distract with getting on with your own life.

I have none of these things, I don't need them or want them and I feel it gives me loads of lovely time to do other more productive or just relaxing things.

I don't want some device binging away all day. I understand you get a buzz of dopamine everytime your phone bings with another meaningless update.

But you'll get over it. And fast and you'll be surprised at how much better your life is.

Are you in a traders group on Insta? Delete it! It's only encouraging you to overtrade and bet you some alpha male took charge of it.

My 18-year-old son told us yesterday: "I've deleted Tik tok. It's such a waste of time and I realised I was wasting hours watching dumb videos".

I believe this is starting to happen with the under 25's. Is it possible an anti social media era is slowly about to happen?

Maybe I'll start a "Freedom from Social Media" day.

On that day everyone has to leave their devices in a locked drawer. Just for 24 hours.

Go out there and talk to people instead. Call your friends! Re-establish some old friendships. Go on, I double dare you!

Watch out: your unneeded silly devices (smart fridge anyone?) are spying on you.

Glad to report I have no "smart" devices and if that makes me dumb, then I'm dumb.

Watch out for your doorbell spying on you. I'm sure spies would be fascinated by my conversation with the postman this morning. (Postperson? Postthem? I give up).

Just to let the Chinese spies know he told us walking 5 miles in this heat was very tiring but it did keep him fit.

There's a brand new book out today about the likely implications of AI.

Read a quarter of it so far and it's a must read especially if you are into shares!

The Coming Wave" by Mustafa Suleman gives massive insights from someone right in the middle of the AI universe.

It is scary stuff. Everything really is about to change and this book will get you up to speed.

It's a total eye-opener. How AI, synthetic technology and quantum computing will change everything.

I suggest you buy it - I'll do a full review in the next update. I'm trying to figure out how what I am learning from the book will change the way we may have to invest.

Amazon link to the book here:

As always the put the sh1t out over the summer on TV hence one needs a trawl around the streamers, there are one or two decent shows out there.

Painkiller ***** Netflix

Addictive drama based on the true story of the rise and fall of the appalling American drug Oxycontin.

Brilliantly told tale of how the drug was launched, and centres on how it was sold to the doctors.

A story of terrible greed, ruthlessness and eventual realisation that the profits matter a lot more than deaths.

Invasion *** Apple
Ho hum tale of alien invasion. The first series drags, but might be worth a view with a hand on the fast forward button.

Standard invasion tale but slow and too smaltzy takes on some of the characters.

Series two currently on offer one episode a week picks up the pace a bit. Worth a look.

Silo **** Apple TV
Decent sci fi - 10,000 people live in an underground Silo 140 years on what appears to be a ravaged Earth.

Those wanting to go outside are allowed to and die outside. Or do they?

Interesting take on what a society living underground together would be like and there are some gripping cliffhangers, well worth a view.

Suspect part of it is a satire on lockdowns and maybe how China rules its people.

Would you believe the Rolling Stones have a new single out today called "Don't get angry with me"

It's on you tube. And it's not bad! The only thing is it features a stereotyped blonde with her bits hanging out, look he's over 80 so don't get angry with him.

Talking music, we played a game of pick an isoteric piece of music on the way back in the car at the weekend and I came up with "Kissing With Confidence" by Will Powers.

Whatever you do, don't listen to it, it will stick in your head for days, it is still ringing round mine.

But a little competition for you - guess the vocalist. She's a very famous singer and wasn't credited. And she's a great singer. The song is from 1983. (When I definitely wasn't kissing with confidence).

Answer further down somewhere! Go on, have a think, she has a distinctive voice.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

MARKETS

Well, come on, I did say August markets were usually worth left alone.

If ever it's a good time to go off grid and spend a month climbing a mountain then August is it!

I always do very little in August and just try and let things be and try and be away from the screen.

And in the end taking out the usual volatility not a lot happened.

However we are now in September, liquidity makes a comeback.

Easier to buy and sell and if you managed to hold during difficult August you might find your favourite shares begin to resume their poise.

The only thing is though it feels market participants are p1ssed off at having to go back to work and that can cause unsettled markets.

There are signs interest rates may about to peak which could mean a good end to this year.

For right now though markets still seem a bit unsettled.

Lots to discuss with you lot who will be in Palma, Spain with me next week at the retreat.

I remember last September in Palma shares were going through a sticky patch and all of us made a few quid shorting the Dax!

We'll be looking at loads of shares and can't wait to see what comes up.

Right, well I haven't been up to that much. Most of what I have hasn't really done much over the summer but looking through the portfolio it all seems good value.

I have made the odd trade here or there.

I bought some Volex. Played this one before but it might have some proper legs this time.

There are some good news stories surrounding the maker of critical power and data transmission products Volex.

It's just got competition clearance for its Murat Ticaret deal.

It raised £60m via a placing for the acquisition and the deal seems like a good fit for Volex.

It's also been named as a Tesla licence partner for North America making couplers.

Given the company seems to be on the march for deals it looks like shares could continue their current steady march higher.

There is some debt remaining there but it seems to be able to raise money easily and got good backing from institutions.

All things considered it looks like a nice possibly longer-term holding for an isa.

I've picked up some T Clarke CTO.

It looks mighty cheap! A forward PE of just 6. A peg of just 0.3 and a dividend of nearly 5% ticks a lot of boxes.

It also has major support at 130p. I've been trying to buy it on DMA so I could buy at the sell price but try as I might I couldn't find any sellers which I suppose is a good sign.

I wonder if TCO might get some work in some of these schools that will need work doing that we're all read about this week.

It offers building services across the UK, including schools, residential, hotels etc and offers engineering services and facilities management.

Seems a decent well run company at a great price. Initially targetting a lift back up to 150-160 but it could end up a longer-term hold.

TCO boss Mark Lawrence has been with the company for 37 years, that is some experience!

I've bought some NWF.

This one has been sold off recently but is now back to a value price.

It distributes fuel, food and feed across the UK and results were strong.

Taking out lease liabilities its net cash has grown to a substantial £16.3m.

It's also near the bottom of a well established 220-280 trading range so my plan is
to target the upper end of the range for some medium-term profits.

I picked up some more MS International, (MSI) I now have around £50k as recently they have become a lot more liquid.

It's announced a contract to maintain its weapon system for the US navy.

But the interesting but is this gives some hints that there is a good chance the company could be awarded a production and supply contract shortly.

Potentially then there could be another announcement soon which could push the share price up further.

Its board is getting on and one wonders if they might want to retire soon and get bought up. Its exec chairman has been there since 1972 and the finance head since 1980!

Looks like MS International is still cheap and on another announcement could see a push up to nearer 1000p and a bid? We could be looking at well over that.

I've bought some more of my two favourite defence stocks Qinetic and BAE Systems which look superb long-term holds and I try and pick extra up on weakness. I've tried to buy more defence tiddler Cohort on DMA at the sell price but no luck so far!

I bagged some profit on Frp - it has since come back a bit and it looks like a potential re-buy.

Those of you with level 2 look at Knights Group.. there is as I write at 3.30pm (sep 7) a buy order for 450,000 shares at 85p is on the book. That's a massive buy order.

So I've put an order in for 5,000 shares for the rest of today only at 85.4 placed at 3.05 - yes that's me. Thought would stick it just above the big order. No idea if I'll get filled.

The above will only make sense to those of you who've done level 2 with me at seminars.

Elsewhere Me Group where I have a big holding has announced a share buyback programme which should help to begin to push the shares higher again.

Shares in Morgan Sindall have been very strong which bodes well.

If you only read the markets thing go to the top to read about how our car got stolen and how we got it back using a £25 airtag!

Also read above about an amazing new must read book on AI.

My new book "The Naked Trader Guide to Trading Strategies" can be ordered from Amazon here (thanks for all the great feedback)

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.
