We're going to have a nice peaceful August as we gear up for a very busy autumn!
We look forwards to meeting loads of you in real life and a few online in September and October.
First we have the investors retreat from September13th - we absolutely can't wait for this!
Nearly all of you are returning from last year and we have some new participants too.
As last year you'll be talking wealth with me, being wise with Elizabeth and health with Kalpesh. Let's all come back healthier, wealthier and wiser!
We're putting together the timetable at the mo learning from the last two retreats. We also have a special guest flying out!
As usual there will be nights out, a quiz, lot of share talk, psychology and some fun.
Afraid the retreat is totally sold out but if you might be interested in one in June or September next year, mail me for details.
We always do a zoom meet with anyone thinking of coming to see if we get on and whether the retreat is right for you or not.
Otherwise you can come and meet me and some great investors on Oct 13th near Windsor/Heathrow.
And if you can't travel or struggle to get away there's an online one on September
27th.
See above for more on those.
The new book is selling well so thanks for buying it and some of the comments I've got.
Seems most of you like the arrange your portfolio like a football team best.
Amazon now actually has copies and you can get it on same or next day delivery on this link:
Many people ask what the favourite book I've written is.
Well actually it is my least known one "Trade Like A Shark".
I have a battered copy of it by the bath as I often read bits then.
It's a dip in dip out easy read mainly stories from 100s of investors I've met over the years and their tales of woe or success.
Some of the stories really are eyewatering, so much so you might think they are made up, but every single story is true!
Maybe take it on holiday with you, read on the plane or the beach!
Amazon has it on this link:
I get a mention in "Den of Geek" for 1,500 written episodes of a teletext soap opera I wrote in the 90's!
It describes my writing as "full of sex and scandal" which is true and actually I have no idea how I got away with some of it on daytime tv.
Episodes still float about the internet! I used to write an episode every day, usually whacking it out in 10 minutes (which showed).
Ah, the 90's were such fun!

As we have the retreat in Spain next month we thought we'd knock around the UK over the summer.
Headed off to "the country" at the weekend for an amble around the pretty village of Woodstock.
Excellent roast at the pub "The Back Lane Tavern" named I suspect because it is indeed "round the back". (Insert childish joke here).
Excellent roast and service, seek it out if you are anywhere near.
We also had a night at The Dixon Hotel by Tower Bridge for a nosy around London for a bit of fun.
Lots going on round there, there was a green festival, plenty of market action and loads of interesting shops.
A new menace is appearing on the roads in London though.
It used to be people pretending to clean your front window at lights in return for money.
Now it's worse: They wait at lights in London and bang quite aggressively on windows.
Some seem high on drugs so keep your windows well shut if you see them.
Enjoyed meeting some of you at the online seminar last week.
It's very tiring doing them but worth it for the feedback like Robert who said:
The best course I have ever been on. Seeing you work through the process was eye opening and amazing."
Thanks for the lovely feedback like this from Chris:
I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long.
Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!
Too many best bits to mention, but I was impressed that you had read all the questionnaires and had something to say about each one.
Also, I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."
Phil:
The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)
As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.
You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!
Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!
Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.
Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.
Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:
Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.
I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "ËœBetting'.
I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....
.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"
Naked Rambling
Some roads near us have gone to 20mph.
Not side roads which I understand but these are massive wide roads with clear views and hardly anyone crosses them.
Trying to go 20mph is quite hard work, most still do 30mph which is perfectly safe for everyone.
Last night there were SIX police officers doing speed checks. I was doing 24 so I might have got away with it.
Oh and it was 8.30pm. No-one is walking about and no-one is going to be adversely affected by someone doing 30 rather than 20.
But surely these thin resources should be applied to real crime and burglaries and the like, not trying to catch motorists which feels mainly money raising.
Great thing about August is the politicians are mainly away, a nice rest from them.
Still no idea what Labour policies are.
Right now, feels like the same as the Conservatives...but with an added sad face.
At last something is being done about footballers wasting time in games.
It is annoying one team is up a goal and from early on they time-waste and hardly any of that is added on at the end.
Things are changing though and action is being taken.
But I wonder why it's the ref's job to time keep?
Why not hand that out to a third party who stops the clock for every bit of time wasting leaving the ref to concentrate on the game itself?
Also a big crackdown on the time wasters would help too.
After all we want action and entertainment, don't we?
Saudi Arabia seems intent on buying up all the Fulham FC players.
I'm not sure, but it could be revenge on one of the Fulham bosses who questioned some let's say less than moral practices.
This could be a game changer for the PL as the best players are all bought up with money they feel they can't turn down.
TV has packed up for the summer with nothing much on worth bothering with.
Jack Ryan **** Amazon
Not come across this before but there is a new series.
I've started with series one, seems decent enough action, bad guys Vs good guys stuff.
Nice easy watch especially as there isn't a whole bunch of time shifting.
Hijack **** Apple
My son loves this one - we watched ep 1 last night but ended up watching three!
Set in real time, a hijack on a plane. It's very well done, lots of action and twists. Always something happening.
Then in episode 2 my mate James turns up playing an air traffic control leader. I totally forgot he was in this so that was a fun surprise.
He did tell me 2 years ago he was in a series with edris iblis but with the time lag to it showing, it did come as a shock to see him.
You've got to ignore the plot holes but if you can it's a great watch and I suspect later tonight I'm going to be called to binge the rest of it.
There are one or two decent shows on Apple, suggest get a sub, then cancel it and you've got a month to watch them, then subscribe again next year!
American Express sends me an amazing offer.
A card with an interest rate of 40pc and an annual £75 fee.
And you can't use it in a lot of places. Sign me up!
They reckon people over 50 should consider getting back into the workforce.
I'll give it a go though I'm not much good at anything.
The answer to the usual question "Where do you see yourself in 5 years"?
has to be simple.
My main goal is to still be alive."

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.
****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

MARKETS
We're now in the quiet holiday period, fund managers and participants are on the beach with a cocktail and a book.
I once went up to someone on a beach who was reading my book. He got the shock of his life!
They've worked hard all year (that's what they claim) and it is time to relax.
It does mean liquidity isn't much good and spreads are often higher than usual so trading in August needs to be undertaken with a spot of caution.
Like yesterday there was one of those downgrade things in the USA which spooked markets.
And that's carried on today, fear rules for a bit at least.
But these downgrades tend to be forgotten quickly so I don't feel too bothered.
Markets are easily spooked in August, if you like your share it might be worth holding on through illiquid volatility.
Spreads are usually worse too and diabolical in small caps - generally in August it might even be best to shut your laptop and do nothing.
I've been doing a little bit of bargain hunting: that is looking for overlooked shares that look cheap with a good business.
After all that's what bidders look for. It is hard in August so they really have to be bargains - setting stops is tricky too.
Ok, Robbie you're laboured the point enough right? It's tricky dealing in August, we get it, FFS.
One that looks cheap is Next 15 (NFG) which now looks a bargain after a slump from over a tenner to around six quid a share.
Around the six we have a very low PE and PEG and a dividend of 3pc.
What interests me is it says it will go cash positive soon and is considering a return of cash to shareholders perhaps via share buybacks.
While its current business is only "ok" the future could look brighter.
It's working with customers to figure out how to use AI to enhance competitive advantage and it's working with leading players in generative AI to build a range of products and services.
It is unlikely there is any bad news on the way given its recent inline statement so I can't think of any massive downside from here for now. (Mind you, it is August, did I say that already?)
The spread can be tricky so I tried to wait for a tight spread before buying or use DMA.
We'll have a good look at DMA by the way at the hotel seminar in October.
Could end up a nice under the radar buy with perhaps 30-35pc upside with not too much risk.
One with more risk, but still potential rewards is CAB Payments.
A disastrous recent float with traders and investment firms buying into shares at 335p.
Although I wasn't tempted at the float price which looked too high, being able to buy at 15% below became a bit of a temptation, so I was, er, tempted.
What's annoying about this one is trying to get the fundamentals is pretty hard work but all should become clear with results on September 13th.
Still it is well profitable and institutions must have seen something there to back the launch of the shares at 335p.
It should enter the FTSE 250 in September which might give a lift to the share price so at well below issue price, I think it is worth a shot. Might need a stop and another go as it might be a falling knife.
Share price is all over the place which makes it a tricky one but it could pay off.
Games Workshop is a punter.. I mean investor favourite and you can see why.
Generally it just continues to be a decent company producing excellent statements.
It is amazing: 8 consecutive years of growth, now at its highest ever level of sales and profit.
It went ex dividend for 145p today which is the reason for today's fall.
Although not cheap, it seems reasonable to pay for the top quality here and I reckon it's one of those lovely ones to tuck away in an isa.
Just leave it there with a very loose stop and gradually let the money roll in, unless there is a warning or a slowdown.
A bit of tidying up: I took a loss on Ezj of £47, Nwf profit £560, Futr profit £812, Crw loss £57.
Elsewhere Cohort shares have been well bought with value being seen.
Nice report from Morgan Sindall last night - shares have been gradually tracking higher and could be more to come.
I have a fair holding in BAE and a very strong statement from BAE yesterday making the shares look like a very solid long-term hold.
Me Group looks like it will start share buybacks soon which should help, shares are at a great buying area.
Another £125 from the premium bonds this month making a total of about £6,500 this year so far on £50k.
That's nearly 15% tax free so far this year. The Mrs has picked up £600 on her 30k.
They're great! I'm a premium bond fan!

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.
The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".
The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.
I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.
If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Spreadco still seems to have the tightest spreads for FTSE 250 shares and the FTSE.
> to open an account under Dymitry.
For small caps try Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.
If you are thinking of A ftse trade try
as their spread is the tightest at 0.8. Also very pleased with execution - FTSE cos the cheapest spreads there too.
It is hard to find a firm that does prices on the very small companies but this company does:

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
