It's Xmas again! What? How did that happen so fast?

We've had a very busy time.

Two seminars, theatre trips, visits to friends, football games...

Enjoyed both beginners and advanced seminars.

Great to see so many old friends online on Wednesday - it was a brilliant fun day with lots of superb trade ideas.

Thanks so much to all of you for making it such an interesting day and lovely to see four of you who came to the retreat in Palma last year.

Looks like you are all coming again to the next one in Palma in June, be fab to spend a few days with you all again.

I'll ensure a certain person doesn't attempt to push any other person into the pool.

Last night we were invited to the press night for Derren Brown's new show "Showman" at my sister's theatre The Apollo.

Another great show from Derren.

It's fabulous entertainment but he makes us all swear not to reveal what happens.

But I can say there are loads of brilliant tricks, illusions and a lot of fun with the audience.

He's an amazing man, how he does this every night is beyond me.

Unfortunately sitting next to Elizabeth was a woman who got absolutely pissed.

She started shouting "Rubbish" and laughing hysterically.

Bravely Elizabeth told her to be quiet and that she was spoiling it. She then told Elizabeth to shut up and mind her own business.

She then went quiet but in the interval said thanks she was going through a bad time.

In the second half she drank some more and when Derren was looking for volunteers he looked at her and wisely said "I don't think so."

Sadly she then started crying and tried to give Elizabeth her mum's ring or something.

Luckily being a trained coach/counsellor Elizabeth handled all this really well, got her onside and the woman didn't try to disrupt the show any more.

We both hope she's ok and whatever is going wrong in her life gets sorted but I suspect her first step should be an AA meeting.

My sister Nica who owns 6 West End theatres including this one did say there seems a growth of people turning up at theatres the worse for wear.

Maybe it's related to post covid with people finding it hard to come out and socialise again.

Tickets for Derren's show are getting sold out - go to my sister's website to book.

I learned about confirmation bias from Derren after reading an interview with him in the Times.

What I learned is in Naked Trader 5 - but as he says once a person has an idea fixed in their mind it is very hard to change.

Same with shares. Once someone owns a share just try telling them it was the wrong choice as they hold as that share continues to tank!

Next week it's off to the National Theatre to see Othello, darlings.

See? You never had me pegged as someone cultured did you? Aha.

Well, truth be told I have a friend Tanya who's in it innit. so can't wait to see her in it (innit) and she's had rave reviews.

I can't honestly say I'm a big Shakespeare fan and it's three hours but going to read up on the story which should help.

Also made a trip to Eton to see my son playing football there for his school team.

We won 2-1 with a winning goal in the dying minutes. To be fair they didn't cheat like they did last time except well, the Eton referee told one of our players to leave the pitch for ten minutes because he said a swear word.

Can't say I've ever heard of this football rule - if every footballer got sent off for ten mins for swearing, games would never get finished.

Also, we were 1-0 up at the time and suddenly had to play with ten men.. hmmmm.....

I've had a dental implant screwed in, oh to have that tooth back, lovely!

Many of you have asked about the once a year spreadbetting seminar so just fixed the date for Feb 24th online.

Everything spreadbetting will be discussed all day for beginners and improvers.

How to do it, how to short a share, treating a SB account like an isa, working out the costs, shorter and medium term tax free ways to attempt to make money from it plus special wise guests, traders and SB firm staff.

More details above somewhere, mail for details if you fancy this day.
Good to meet a few of you at the last event.

Lots of beginners, I know there was a lot to get your heads round but three of you have booked the follow up so I must have broken through!

Only one woman which is unusual, so well done Linda! (And your fabulous dining room)

Lots of interesting ideas came up and it was a fascinating day to do it with markets well up.

Thanks for the lovely feedback like this from Chris:

What a great day! Thanks so much for the effort and time you both put in.

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long.

Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

Too many best bits to mention, but I was impressed that you had read all the questionnaires and had something to say about each one.

Also, I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener.

Thanks Chris, we so enjoyed it.

Thanks a lot for recent online seminar feedback!
.. Such as this from Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You brought it back to, Keep Things Simple. Do Your Own Research. Trade without emotion and above all, trade the market you find"¦ not what you or some pundit thinks it should be.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question.
Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own.
Brilliant!
Thanks Andrew - we have got rather experienced at running them on zoom now!

Claire mailed me with some feedback on the seminar which she attended.

Thanks for a fantastic seminar, I learned a lot and got every question I could think of answered. I think the most beneficial thing to me was just seeing with my own eyes how you go through the process of picking shares to buy and witnessing your thought process as you go through and also being able to ask questions as they arise. The system you and Elizabeth have for answering all the questions is fabulous & means you depart the maximum amount of information that is humanly possible in one day! The next day I just wished I was doing the course again instead of going back to work as it seemed dull in comparison."

Thanks Claire! It was a lovely group with a great sense of humour.

Jas, thanks for your mail as you've been to two zoom seminars.

Just wanted to say thank you for a couple of wonderful seminars.
Your seminars were brilliant. Delivered methodically and with just a simple honest approach to dealing with the markets. You've helped me immensely in sorting my trading plan out and finding a good and profitable way to trade. After many months trying to figure out level 2, you sorted that out in one afternoon.

Since the seminar, I have placed 5 trades, 2 have closed out with profits and 3 are still running with profits. All trades placed using fundamental research and not Youtube videos
from David:

Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "ËœBetting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

The England game was tricky for me as I had a bet on France early on in the tournament.

Should I be cheering for England or France? It was confusing.

Should I go for money or patriotism. In the end when Harry Kane blasted the ball over the goal I realised the answer:

Money! Come on France, tough luck Harry!

My other bet on Portugal has fallen by the wayside, so... come on France in the final though they have Messi to deal with - hopefully it will be a cracking game.

Xmas Tv is always such awful dross - all the good stuff has finished.

Amazing how much crap there is on Netflix and Amazon. I was surprised at how poor Paramount was too unless you love Star Trek.

There were some decent series this year - my top show was the impressive Better Call Saul.

And the just finished White Lotus. Both brilliant.

The White Lotus (****)
Brilliant finale to a brilliant show, the most entertaining of the year bar Better Call Saul.

At last we discover poor old Tanya has been played by the gay mafia.

But the best part of it was the three generations of sex addict males and their antics.

The whole thing was super fun, well done to all involved and I bet the 4 Seasons in Sicily where it was based is booked up for next year.

A Spy among Friends (****) ITVX
Excellent new drama with a host of top names to launch ITV X ITV's new streaming service.

If you enjoy spy dramas based decades ago you will definitely love this.

Getting ITV X is a problem though, Sky haven't taken it yet so for now can only watch on a laptop.

It's been a good year for new music - two top tracks for me were the infectious Baddest of Them All from Eliza Rose and "Afraid to Feel" from LF System.

But top of the tree is the album from new indie band Wet Leg which is a delight.

Biggest hit is "Chaise Longue" which is great.

But my single of the year is "Wet Dream" by Wet Leg. Uplifting and a super fun 2 and a half minutes of great pop.

The one that surprised me was a grime track "Je M'appelle" from Benzz.

Taking the riff from the classic Destination Unknown this track from Morocco has energy and hustle. Well done lads.

Amazingly I've done better than last year with Whamageddon.

I've managed to not hear a single second of Last Xmas by Wham yet.

Even though I've been out a few times. Next week is going to be tricky though I aim to get to the 21st.

Main thing is to try hard to avoid anyone who listens to Radio 2.

It's been reported that snakes have clitorises.

No wonder they were born with forked tongues, the lucky things.

I've now decided if there is reincarnation I want to come back as a female snake with a forked tongue.

COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

MARKETS
Well the Xmas rally has been on the scrooge-ish side so far!

Early in the week things looked good when thoughts were inflation might some down and interest rates may not have to go up so much.

But then the US intervened with some pre Xmas misery changing sentiment into maybe interest rates will have to go up some more and maybe inflation won't come down so fast.

Well, frankly I don't have a clue but it means markets will probably stay volatile as sentiment shifts from one report to another.

This means if you are playing the Xmas rally it could be trickier this year and make sure you have potential losses under your control as it is actually just a gamble though usually it does work.

I had a go on Wednesday and managed to lose £150. Once sentiment took over I kept out but considering one more go next week.

Historically markets are at their strongest from Dec 18th with the strongest days just before Xmas and often in the period between Xmas and NY.

So if you haven't blown it already there is still some hope!

If you're having more than one go best firm is as there is only a 0.8 spread on the FTSE.

There is also the thought of trying the Dax or S and P if you worry the FTSE is too full of big oil cos.

Good luck - but do remember you don't have to do it!

I bought what I think is an interesting one and potential star of 2023, OMG Group.

This one looks a bit under the radar (I like under the radars as you can suddenly get a massive uplift when noticed by a publication).

It's a smart sensing software company that now has a pile of cash after selling off a division.

It's going to be on the acquisition trail in 2023 so the future of the share price depends on what it does with the huge cash pile.

If it can make some sensible decent buys which could add to profit it could be a nice grower for next year.

In the meantime the share price should be supported by the cash on hand.

It's just come back a bit on profit taking so might look at a top up.

Going to try and hold firm here unless question marks appear.

I noted some interest coming back into Sureserve and decided to add some on the strength especially as there is a lot of support at anything under 70p.

On the face of it it does look dull which is why you won't see people telling you to "fill your boots".

But it could have an interesting future especially as governments are looking at spending more money in its area of the market and the hydrogen route could pay some dividends.

Sureserve is also going up on bad down days which is a good sign, I think it's worth nearer 100p.

An interesting one that's heading higher at the mo is MS International MSI.

I messed around with this a few years ago but it was always hard work, staying around the same price with a big spread.

It's delightfully old fashioned. Head cheese Michael Bell has been with the company since 1972 and must be in his 80's meanwhile the rest of the board are in their 70s.

We reckoned at the seminar that Michael's son might take over the reigns should he retire.

The website is pretty much non existent and literally there are just two announcements a year, but I rather like all this.

What you see is what you get with no piles of BS getting in the way,

It's part defence (guns and that sort) and part forgings and petrol stations. They seem quite excited by their defence division growing.
Profits and revenue are all well up and so is cash, over £23m.

Taking all that into account, the shares still look cheap even after recent rises.

Of course it could fall back on profit taking but no major sign of that yet.

I bought some EKF Diagnostics, these were brought up at the follow up seminar.

Interesting potential here as a longer-term isa tuckaway.

It's a diagnosis business which had a great covid but post covid it could still go well.

Its life sciences business is motoring in particular. There's a nice cash pile building too.

It isn't one that's going to suddenly boom, but with some patience it could be a nice long-term hold.

I got some more Indivior, probably my favourite for likely gains and it holds up well against a weak market.

We discussed this at the follow up seminar - as well as decent fundies the share price could shift up a lot as it gets its Nasdaq listing early in 2023.

They value these shares a lot higher there and so the ratings could bump it up higher.

There was also a fabulous statement a few days ago - could be a nice 2023 winner.

K3C shares started to rise strongly so I topped up - it wasn't too long before the reason for the rises became apparent as an offer of 350p a share was announced.

Fairly obviously as the shares started to rise someone was in the know (!).

I did predict last week the company would be bid for but my prediction of way over 400p was wrong, 350p was a definite disappointment.

Maybe they think better to take it private without the hassle of the listing. One can't help but feel a little shafted.

On the upside I hadn't realised including in my sipp and spreadbets that I held so much of this.

Indeed I was shocked to realise I had nearly £200,000 of shares overall and it gives me an easy liquid exit.

As it looks like a done deal and you have some, you can either take your profit now at around 340p, or if you don't need the cash for now wait for the full 350p in cash which would be credited to your account early in 2023.

I'll probably take some profit - but say for the sipp I might just leave it and take the 350p cash.

There is only the small chance of a counter bid and it looks unlikely. Still, you never know.

So I guess farewell to K3c - it's been a goodie - I bought most of mine under 150p so more than doubled and had some very nice dividends along the way too.

Similar comments to the bid for Crestchic - as those of you who get the sipp mail know I had some of these in my sipp, these were bid for at a disappointing 400p but I don't mind a nice easy exit and a nice profit.

I topped up with a bit more Victorian Plumbing which came up at the follow up seminar as a suggestion from an attendee.

We all thought there could be more to come for VIC despite rises and I am happy to top up.

Sentiment is very positive at this outfit, and there is a massive cash pile and a nice dividend.

Despite rises I'm happy to average up here.

I've shorted Asos - this came up at both seminars and indeed came up as an independent idea from someone attending the follow up.

I already made an absolute bundle shorting Boo Hoo in the same market and though taken profits on that it's possible Asos has further to decline.

The outlook for the shares are terrible - can you believe not so long ago people were buying this at 50 quid and it's now a fiver.

I've taken profits in Boy of £729 it nicely reached target.

Couldn't quite resist taking profits in The Gym Group short of £2,910. Nearly halved since I shorted it.

Also a trailing stop banked some more Aston short profit, this time trades closed for a profit of £3.980 and £10,650.

ITV sadly got taken out by a trailing stop for a profit of £659. I kind of wanted to hold onto it but stops are there to take out emotion.

I sold some of my Begbies for a profit of £512 and £2,065.

No real problems with it, it's just that results were fine but not exciting and the shares refuse to go above 145. But looking to buy them, back as longer term Begbies could go well. And a topslice of Crw for a profit of £429.

That makes total profits for the website this time of £21,934.

The Telecom Plus super dividend should get credited shortly - that's Xmas expenses and more sorted!

Also a massive dividend due from IBPO payable Dec 21st though often find that one gets paid late.

I got a message from someone who works in the film industry which looks positive for my holding in ADF.

My reader wrote: "I work in the film business in Locations and although December has been pants, I'm already heavily booked up for the next quarter, which is normally a slow start in the film industry."

Obviously I can't verify this and he doesn't work for ADF so think of it more as anecdotal.

Thanks to Elizabeth for her sterling work at both seminars. Loads of questions answered I didn't have time to.

Many of you took advantage of some free taster sessions on trading psychology and some of you have booked Elizabeth for some sessions on zoom with one of you living near us doing a face to face.

She can help with the all important trading mindset and can talk you through topics like overcoming FOMO, having more winning positions, feeling calm, breaking habits and how to balance work and trading.

Sessions with Elizabeth should make you more confident and make better decisions. I've seen people making big breakthroughs.

For more and to book a taster session go to

The premium bond rate is going up a lot to 3%. Rightly, they are concentrating on improving the number of bigger prizes like £10,000 winners going from 178 to 559 and £100,000 from 18 to 56.

I got £150 last month but I have a max holding of £50,000. Definitely worth having Premium Bonds.

BTW I was walking along the street and saw Chris Rea stuck in a traffic jam.

Hey Chris where are you off to, can I help I know this area well."

Thanks I'm fine," he replied. "I'm just driving home for Xmas..."

If you fancy some nostalgia try my 2019-20 Xmas podcast! Done before horrible Covid what shares were I looking at then?

It's that time of the year when you can add 20k into an isa.

It is an amazing tax perk and we are very lucky to have it, I am especially grateful and remember the feeling a while back when I made the first tax free million in one!

I use Barclays, IG and Interactive Investor for mine.

Interactive Investor have a referral thing for the moment so if you want £125 of fees taken off let me know - available for anyone who invests 10k plus.

On the referral I apparently would get £200 into my account so a win win for both of us?

If you want to go for the referral and the money off email me at robbiethetrader and will send you details of how we can do it.
Stockopedia as ever is SO useful. It really is a must have! And some fantastic talented writers/commentators too like Paul Scott.

***Research tree discount offer: 20pc off.***
I really can recommend it as it is a big help and complements the brilliant stockopedia, the only other site I recommend.
So this site has broker notes on companies, plenty of in depth research. You can find things such as pre-tax profit forecasts and the most shorted companies. There's an easy search facility and also a news feed.
So for example on the morning of a share result or statement you can get a broker report on that share, it is really useful! Broker reports are usually very in depth and I especially like being able to see a full year pre tax profit forecast which seems impossible to get elsewhere.
You can get a limited free account - for full access if you like it - click "upgrade" and there is a 20 per cent discount if you type nakedtrader into the discount code box.
The address is - for the discount remember the code nakedtrader after you ask to upgrade. If you upgrade let me know if the upgrade thing works well and is easy or if you encountered any probs getting the 20pc off.
For small caps try Spreadex say for the moment they will carry on with most of the shares so that could be another place to deal in shares IG won't.
