I got some Bose noise cancelling headphones, just amazing.

We're on a flightpath here, pop these in, no plane noise!

I find it easy to sleep on my side with these in too and they shut out noise like bin people, screaming kids, cats demanding early breakfast.

Great for travelling too, wonderful to get rid of the engine noise on a plane.

Easily linked to a phone for listening to podcasts, etc.

The ones I bought, link here:

Talking planes, I am in trouble with the Mrs.

I was watching the scary landings at Gatwick live on youtube during storm Bert and posted the link to those of you on my email sub list.

What fun! Bumpy scary landings which other people have to put up and you can watch in comfort, cup of tea in hand.

I'm glad you all enjoyed it but forgot Mrs would get the mail too.

And, er, she was about to fly to Gatwick from Shannon in Ireland.

It's ok," I lied reassuringly. "Storm Bert will be over by the time you land."

I decided to make myself scarce when she arrived home after the landings were so bad the captain had to abort two of them.

I chatted last time about a master salesman in a restaurant and now to a master salesman in the medical world.

He's a skin specialist and I love his brilliant niche area of the market.

That is in particular women over 40 who need fillers, botox et all.

He's found the perfect spot!

A health club in a leafy area of London inhabited by bankers and the like.

At 10am on a Monday it's all women of a certain age and men are far and few between.

The women are having a great time with their mates, there must have been 15 in a group over coffee.

They all seemed to be eyeing up the two handsome tennis instructors.

We went there as the doc suggested Elizabeth got her skin checked for potential cancerous moles and I thought may as well get checked too.

After all, you never know, and if you catch these things early"¦

Bear in mind I'm sure this chap does save lives and finds things.

Elizabeth went in first, then me.

You get your kit off and he examines you for moles with what looks like a sophisticated magnifying glass.

After 10 minutes he announces I don't have any moles at all actually, I am a lucky guy.

Elizabeth has a mole or two but no worries with them.

Ok guess how much for the two of us for 15 mins each.

No. Higher!! Nope, higher than that!!

The answer? £385. £385 !!!!

We tried to get it down. "Go on Doc two of us together, how's about a discount?"

No chance. Pay up and get out.

Brilliant. He has little equipment. Reception is shared by other botox/filler "docs".

While checking for moles I don't have, he mentions his share portfolio.

I made one more effort.

Tell you what I'll look at your portfolio for a 25pc discount."

Nope. Nothing doing.

Lots of people trying side hustles at the moment.

Actually it was side hustles that helped me quit work for good in 2001.

My best was and still is Telecom Plus which trades as Utilities Discount Warehouse.

You can sell energy, sim cards, mobiles, broadband and insurance wfh.

You get commission per customer plus an ongoing commission every time they use
a service for as long as they remain a customer.

No stock needed, all done online. If you're good with people and don't mind a lot of
no thanks" could work for you.

My young son is doing it and is roaring away with 20 customers already.

You're backed by a billion plus FTSE 250 company and it's rated well by Which Magazine for good deals and excellent customer service.

If you think this could be a good side hustle for you, mail me with "side hustle" at robbiethetrader and will send you some info.

Thanks for the feedback from recent events.

Gary:

The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

Been to three restaurants in mid November and they all had Xmas decorations out already!

Not just them, decorations sprung up everywhere in November.

As Maggie Thatcher said: "No, no, no"!!

It's not right and it is too soon.

I suggest no one should put up any decorations till December 12th.

Anyone putting them up anywhere before then should get a £50 penalty.

Same with Xmas music. Please !!!! Wait at least till December 1st!

Not heard Wham yet, going to try hard to get to the 25th without hearing it.

No music radio for me now till next year.

Time of the year for Xmas grottos and theme parks.

You know the ones: You'll see the elves and Santa Claus having crafty fags round the back.

One Santa in Berlin had enough and his "Nikolaus rod" seemed to make connection with a 4 year-old who cheeked him.

Santa said his patience snapped after he was told he was "stupid".

His boss told him: "One major rule for santas is "¦don't hit the children".

Savers are being told to ditch premium bonds as the payout rate is falling to 4% from January.

I don't agree! Prizes are tax free after all so the effective rate is in reality much higher.

Nothing to do with the fact I got a 5k prize earlier this year and have collected £7,400 from my 50k in one year.

Zoe Ball has quit her show, can you still believe she got paid nearly £1m?

I thought like many, possibly a new Government could bring some fresh life into the way the country is run.

I've never seen such a bad start, have you?

It's managed to alienate everyone from the elderly, to farmers and to business.

Sir Lord has proved a tiresome leader, full of arrogance, unable to change his mind and certain of his brilliance.

If he had a sense of humour and some self awareness it might help a bit but he has none of that either.

Though good luck to it in trying to get the lazy f*******s out of bed into work. No-one will ever be able to manage that.

Well done Jaguar - all the absurdities of woke culture wrapped up in a 30 second ad.

Real problem for Jaguar is its new cars are apparently total crap, they don't work and are unreliable.

Jaguar has probably had its day.

Onto some TV, watching more now we hit winter.

Silo ***** Apple
Absolutely wonderful slow burn sci fi - survivors of a nuclear war are living in massive silos under the earth.

Spoiler ahead:

At the end of the last series Juliet got out of her silo and here she visits the next to find everyone died bar one.

The whole premise is fascinating - how to manage 10,000 people. How do you rule them and keep them from going outside and killing themselves? Great stuff.

Cheaters **** BBC 1
Top notch comedy, very unusual for the BBC though it helps episodes are 15 mins.

Some very witty lines make this go with an energetic swing.

Nice performances too, cheers all round.

But no way am I trying out the sex featured in episode two.

I'd end up in A and E if I tried it that way.

After The Party **** Ch 4
A drama from Australia - a teacher tries to nail her ex husband who she thinks is guilty of sex with under age teens.

Great scene where teacher does sex education with the pupils, she'd be fired as a teacher if she did it her style in the UK.

While a grim topic , it's well done and quite gripping.

I'm A Celebrity ** ITV
Probably time to wave goodbye to the terribly tired format.

Dire fare though I have fast forwarded through most of it.

A crowd of very savvy show offs means there is little tension or any really interesting characters.

Though Rooney shows what a strong person she is, and actually rather nice!

Most irritating is manchild Dean someone, a DJ. Though I suspect he has deep Adhd so must be forgiven.

Ant and Dec are on auto pilot, time for ITV to cut and run.

Hands up who's enjoying Man City losing its games?

All of you! Me too!

About time their fans know what it is like to lose games.

As a Fulham supporter I know the feeling too well and it's time they did too. (lose games).

Under 35's are ditching recipes and going "freestyle" in the kitchen.

Me too.

Baked beans, open tin, heat in micro - toast bread, stick beans on toast, add tea.

Alternative: Fry egg, stick on the toast. Or forget it and just add jam and butter to the toast.

On all occasions, add one cup of Yorkshire Gold tea.

That's what I call freestyle.

NEW CLARKSON!

Jeremy Clarkson's very funny take on farming is just out and is already in the top 20 books.

The latest escapades from the Diddly Squat farm.

Lovely entertaining writing while also giving the lowdown on all the hardships faced by farmers.

The book is very good value around half off the recommended price at just £11 here:

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

With a Santa rally coming soon (we can but hope) it may not be such a bad idea to buy the odd one just before Santa pushes up share prices.

Though I have a feeling Scrooge might do extra time and appear in the new year. Boo!

I really am stumped how our new leaders think their current path is going to bring growth.

There are warnings everywhere: retailers are screwed once Xmas is over.

The whammies of increased NI, the new minimum wage and extra taxes are killing growth already.

Pubs, hotels and all hospitality will get hit badly next year by the NI rise.

And I feel desperately sorry for restaurants, a lot will shut their doors once the festive season is done.

They all warn prices are going to have to rise which will fuel inflation so forget about interest rates falling.

Once they're out they cal start an undertakers and it is a good name for an undertaker:

Starmer & Reeves. More depressing than the rest.

So as Whitbread combines both hotels (Premier Inn) and Pubs and food (Beefeater) it looks like a short. So I shorted.

For newbies that means I'll gain if Whitbread shares fall.

While it is a good business and very well run there's only so much they can increase room rates and food.

There'll be hit with massive new costs, not only the NI increase but the "Living Wage" increase too.

I expect to hold the short into the new year unless it hits a stop during any Xmas rally.

Wow, the market really liked Cohort's £40m placing and acquisition of an Aussie naval communications firm that will lift profits quite quickly.

Small shareholders were offered new shares at 875p, this was oversubscribed but everyone got some.

I got some new shares in Cohort at the 875p placing making this now my biggest holding.

Easily doubled on these since I bought my first lot.

Cohort really looks like a decent buy and forget about for any isa and with patience looks like being a continued big winner

Volex has put in an offer for the horrible performer TTG.

It looks a reasonably good fit, though the market didn't like it so much.

It does mean Volex having a much bigger debt and shares have fallen quite a bit.

Whether it goes through or not is not certain yet a lot has come off Volex's share price (30pc from highs) and it looks like a decent time to pick some up.

But if it goes much below support at 280p I'm gone.

I've added some more Games Workshop.

It really is quite a remarkable share.

You've got to admire the management here, what a performer over the years.

As a buy and hold plus dividends, what more could you want?

A very upbeat trading statement has sent the shares on another roll upwards. Amazing.

Even better and a catalyst for even more gains is a likely entry to the FTSE 100 in the December reshuffle.

Frasers Group and Vistry look likely for demotion, perhaps causing more falls for them.

Fallers Wood Group, PZ Cussons and Close and Ceres most likely to be kicked out of the FTSE 250.

I did a long spreadbet on Easyjet because it's just a short-term idea.

Nice figures and good ambition here but with the shares rising strongly I'll just use a trailing stop and take profits on any fallback.

FD Technology on its basic figures isn't one I would normally touch as profits aren't likely till 2027 though longer-term there is massive potential.

But it's sold off a division and is going to return £120m to shareholders which should keep the share price buoyant for a bit.

That may be a tender offer - this often means shareholders get offered a sell price higher than the current market price.

So I am hopeful and if a good price may sell into that and bank a nice profit.

There might also be a special dividend.

Overall then thinking will probably end up selling and taking a quick profit.

Elsewhere Telecom Plus put out a superb statement, the number of customers for its utilities continues to climb.

Talk about a long-term hold, I've held these for more than 20 years picking up hundreds of thousands in profit and even better more than £500,000 in just dividends.

The share certificate remains in the house, er"¦ somewhere"¦

Oh hang on, I have a piece of paper worth nearly £500,000 and I have no idea where it is. Time for a search party.

Or did the cleaner throw it out?

I wonder if at some point the Telecom Plus founders might want to cash out.

If so, the value here for a bidder is enormous - I suspect they'd need to look at 50-70% price higher than what it is currently.

Still waiting to see if Good Energy bid goes through, the bidding company has till Xmas to decide.

If it does, it could be a very decent upside from the current price.

If not, probably the downside isn't that much as the company is doing fine anyhow.

My son's teenage gang of traders are all into something called "Dodgy Coin".

Something to do with Elon Musk.

The gang advised me to buy this.

Lucky I didn't pay any attention.

I had fun and pretended I'd bought it.

Dodgy Coin is down 15 pc since I bought it," I complained.

It's a long term trade not a short term," they replied.

And I replied: " A long-term trade is a short-term trade that went wrong."

Ps, I now have Naked Trader Coin available.

Just £5k per coin, a bargain - mail me for details, cash payment preferred if poss.

Oh Hang on, just had a "whattsap" from the teen gang.

When Elon launches X payments it will pump like crazy".

There you are then: don't say you don't get the hottest latest crypto news on my pumping ..er.. Website.

Yeah, don't forget to whattasp and tick tok me, bro's !

Or is it ho's?

Two emails this week from seminar "pupils".

One has got over the £1 million mark now and one is close.

I am so pleased for you both - both of you used discipline and all the hints and tricks I showed you.

I hope you both head up to the £2m mark in time! Well done!

Yes, we're getting close to that Santa Claus rally time of year.

People often ask if the Xmas rally is some kind of myth.

No, it really isn't! It tends to work 9 years out of 10.

I think the last time it didn't work was 2019.

I'll be discussing how to play it in the next update and also in depth at the online seminar on Dec 2nd and the hotel one on the 9th.

In the meantime it may be worth setting up a SB account in advance to be ready.

TN only has a 0.6 spread on the FTSE and is easy to use link here:

I would also suggest getting my book on spreadbetting as it has loads on the Xmas rally.

This includes tons of worked examples, where to place stops and how to ensure you don't do your brains if it goes wrong.

I've now finished reading The Trading Game.

Boy, what a gripper!

Definitely makes me glad I never ended up on a trading floor.

The cast of real-life characters there is not a pretty one!

Full time traders seem to be either alcoholics, drug abusers, loners, weirdos, passive-aggressive alpha males, know it alls or just a bit barmy.

And they are all certain of their own brilliance...

Frankly just check any of the discussion forums, all these characters are there..

Anyway, super read and a must buy for anyone interested in trading!

SPREADBETTING
I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
