I am knackered after two seminars this week, one in person at the hotel and one online.

I've hardly been able to speak after hours of talking much to the relief of the family.

Some lovely people at both events, some great trades uncovered and some fun too.

In the end, it's great to actually see people in real life and enjoy their company.

How could I ever forget Gail and her double bottoms?

Or Gary who just couldn't believe QPR had won two games in a row?

Or everyone gathered around the life-size cut-out of King Charles in our group photo?

I still have no idea why King Charles was hovering in the hallway.

We had big laughs in the bar after and I've become attached to strawberry gin after seminars.

I had to call a certain someone's girlfriend to reassure her a certain someone wasn't having an affair with me.

As they say, "Better Call Saul". (You had to be there.)

A hardcore element were still there at midnight and I have seen the video...

Hope to see some of you again next year and in April for the retreat in Spain.

Online fabulous to meet king of the bees Stewart who sent me a couple of pots of his amazing honey as a gift. It is delicious - go buy!

Check out his fabulous videos on youtube. Search for the Norfolk Honey Company.

Lots of great characters online and again hope to see some of you in real life in 2024.

Xmas has been coming seemingly since July and here at last. I hope you have some fun.

I actually am going to have to work as the deadline for finishing Naked Trader 6 is fast approaching and got to get it done before the big trip to India in January.

My method of working is:

Must start work." "I'll just look at You Tube first". "Remember that pop video from 1992!"

Must start work". "First I'll look through Amazon to find a rude gift to send a friend."

Must start work." "Shall I watch the last episode of The Crown, maybe it's not as bad as they say..."

Must start work". "How's about a cuppa and some toast first though?"

Hopefully I'll beat the deadline. Naked Trader 6 will hopefully out sometime this summer.

Maybe. I must start work.

Lots of helpful advice still coming in re the January trip to India.

I'm now more hopeful I will spend some of it away from sitting on the loo.

I'm not telling anyone else about it as you get raised eyebrows and portents of doom.

Oh well, look I had a good run and I've enjoyed my life, we all gotta go sometime.

Tony wrote a heartwarming Xmas story from reader Tony:

I wanted to let you know about something I did recently having been inspired by your own similar story when you paid for repairs to your car that the delivery driver couldn't afford.

I sold an old soundbar on the Next Door app for £50 and arranged for the buyer to come to collect the next day at 4pm. I noticed that he lived on a council estate and had only recently asked if someone could donate a tv for him to watch with his young sons. He eventually arrived very cold having got lost.

It turned out he had only been in the country for 2 weeks and was trying to settle down although he was finding it difficult having come from Nigeria. I told him to take the sound bar and not to worry about giving me anything for it. Honestly his face just lit up. He was so thankful and grateful it was the best £50 I have spent for a long while. It was lovely to get such a nice message from him afterwards about how much he was enjoying having the sound bar to watch the movies with his children.

I did the same thing again 2 weeks later with another buyer. But I just wanted to say thanks for inspiring me as we can all do more for those less fortunate than ourselves."

Well done Tony, if you can afford it, be nice to someone who needs a leg up.
Thanks for all the lovely feedback from the last seminar.

Gary:

The arrangements and agenda were first class, delivered with Elizabeth's charm and efficiency and Robbie's natural charisma. The drill down on all the stock trading ideas
really cemented the knowledge received from the beginners seminar and all
merited the further investigation Robbie and the group undertook.

Having a look at Level 2, DMA and Spreadbetting was very much appreciated.

The day flew by and finished far too soon. I'm convinced I am now a better stock picker and trader as a result of both days with Robbie."

Anne:
My husband and I had a lovely time. We learned so much, the hotel was great and the lunch fantastic. We didn't leave the bar till midnight!

Dave:

I've been a teacher for the last 30 years and I'm not sure I could have kept a group of pupils so captivated for so long. Humour and in-depth subject knowledge go a long way!

I loved seeing your thought process in deciding which shares to trade and level 2 was also an eye opener."

Phil:

The seminar was delivered with huge integrity (there was Zero hidden agenda/ulterior motives, it was simple and open with some great laughs thrown in)

As much as I found myself trying to complicate the process and make it more sophisticated in my own tiny brain.

You also took the time to answer "every" question anyone posed. And it was every question. Loads of shares ideas to boot, but more importantly the process to find your own. Brilliant!

Naked Rambling

My wish for 2024 is: Can we please just have the election in February and get it over with?

We know who's going to win. So "let's get it done".

Can you imagine a whole year of "when is the election going to be"?

Oh, and when the new lot get in, a plea on behalf of investors everywhere: Please leave Isas alone.

And reconsider the Vat on private schools.

It's going to be a disaster with loads of new kids headed for state schools who can't cope as it is.

Friends who are teachers in both state and private say the same.

It's the end of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The last comedy show that could take the p1ss out of anything and push boundaries is no more.

Well, except for the last series in February.

That's it then. No more taking the p1ss out of anything or anyone.

Think about every word you say unless you offend someone.

You can't offend me. Say what you like. As Larry David would say "I'm a bald *fu*k".

RIP Curb. It's the end of the road for good comedy.

Well, there is bugger all on TV. Yes, it's crap Xmas shows from now on.

And because of the writers strike neither is there much on the streamers.

Hey, how about doing something else to relax like reading a book or... oooh... or.. mmmm.

The BBC is really going for it on Xmas Day.

Call The Midwife, EastEnders and Mrs Browns Boys.

Wow. I just can't wait.

Worth every penny of the licence fee.

Maestro ** Netflix.

Saw this in the cinema. I know, I know it got 5 stars everywhere, I'm just not arty farty enough.

The first half is in black and white and dragged for me. Second half was better.

Four of us went including a friend who snored gently through about half of it.

We didn't realise it was him, we thought it was the row behind till he woke up with a start.

At least it meant I got all the popcorn. And the chocs. Talking arty farty...

May December * Netflix
Saw this at the cinema as well and this one is going to win awards too.

But, I promise, and Elizabeth agrees too for balance, and I will whisper it.. (it is incredibly boring and nothing happens). (So there).

But it IS lovely and arty farty with lots of hidden meanings. Right now though I want a good car chase.

(Elizabeth checked her phone for the time 45 times).

Ignore the reviewers and trust me on this one.

Leave The World Behind **** Netflix
Julia Roberts stars in this entertaining about the US under attack.

There's little action but lots of intrigue and great dialogue.

Leave the world behind for a couple of hours and give it a go.

Boat Story *** BBC 1
Weird thriller/comedy which isn't sure quite which one it is.

Then again, I did watch it all with a little bit of fast forwarding.

There's some cartoon violence but also some entertaining bits too.

If there is nothing else around (and there isn't much) it'll do.

Vigil *** BBC1
Second series for this one, the last was set on the submarine.

This time it's a military base, friendly drones decide to kill their owners and who can blame them.

Suranne Jones does what she does and tries singlehandedly (as of course would happen in
real life) to find out whodunnit.

This will inevitably be a character you didn't see much off in the first few episodes.

The mother in law is coming for Xmas and she snores louder than a landing 747.

I'm slightly worried about the house foundations but hopefully they will pull through.

I've invested in some earplugs, some in ear noises cancellers and some overear noise cancellers and if I wear all there then who knows.

I might get some sleep... then again I'll probably be awake for Santa's visit.

(Bottle of Molton Brown for me please, Santa). (Or cash, leave some on the kitchen table).

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

MARKETS
Some tremendous trade ideas came up at the online and hotel seminars last week.

I'm not going to share all with you as frankly I can't be bothered. And I'm too tired after the events.

I'm impressed by the brilliant ideas discussed and we have many decent trade and trade to be ideas.

Let me share a trade or two with you readers then.

Paypoint came up - I expected this to be a short because the chart looked terrible.

But we had a very good look at it and really couldn't see much reason for the big dip.

So I ended up buying a few.

Paypoint you probably see when you visit the corner shop.

It does bill payments and all kinds of services and recently bought a hampers company and
Love2shop brand.

The figures look good and I'm for a return back to the 530-50 area.

The CEO bought 50,000 shares last week and it has a very low PE.

Looks a nice medium-term idea but at 550p I'd probably take profits.

Wilmington looks an interesting one.

We found it on my "dash for cash" screen which is on Sharepad.

This screen is picking up a lot of nice winners.

Problem with Wilmington is the silly wide spread, I wasn't prepared to buy the buy price but was prepared to give the sell price a go using DMA.

My sell side order got filled so I didn't have to pay the spread.

It's all about risk and compliance, and who doesn't want a bit of compliance in their lives?

It's spending its big cash pile buying up others and has just bought Astutis which will contribute to profits.

Could be a nice isa tuckaway with a good dividend too.
Midwich is a share I hadn't noticed before and at first glance I thought it was a duff falling knife.

But, like Paypoint, it just looked oversold and unloved. (Last Xmas it gave you its heart and the very next year you took it away, you bastard).

It's an audio visual distributor to the trade and things seem to be turning around.

Good news for Midwich is the big cheese Stephen Fenby has been splashing out on shares.

In even better news Stephen is bald which is a big asset for a company boss as he won't spend days faffing around with his hair every year, instead, concentrating on the business.

He also looks like a very nice chap.

Never buy shares if the CEO has lots of hair.

Shares are rising and look good for some more and there's a 4pc divi.

Now onto the £100 prize winning trades from each seminar..

Knights Group was the winner for Gail at the hotel event, a last gasp win from nowhere by 2 votes!

And fair enough they have been going up since then..

Knights is a legal group that's been spending cash buying up others.

It has promised a 28pc increase in profits though it now has some debt given the acquisitions.

With a PE of just 5 and a PEG of well under 1, this still looks very cheap despite the debt.

Probably one of the reasons for the cheapness is the market's suspicion of law firms.

If those are unwarranted, could be 50pc upside. But, there is risk too.

Its debt has always been a worry but net debt (not including lease liabilities) is down to £38m which is ok.

Even so it pays a 4pc dividend and prospects look good with margins nicely up and acquisitions bedding in well.

However, it is on the risky side but it could pay off.

Winner of best trade idea for the online event was Chris with Cohort.

A share I did already hold and have topped up on recently. He won by just a vote!

Cohort is a tech and defence company that has sat under the radar.

Management seem keen to spread the word and it did an investors event you can find on youtube.

It's got net cash of £13m, a dividend of near 3pc, profit up 20pc and a record order book.

It's one of those shares I think I will just hang onto and one day not be surprised at a bid.

I reckon that would need to be at 700p plus. Maybe in 2024?

Right, I really can't be bothered to do any more shares, sorry about that. I have things to do.

Moving on then to the Xmas rally which I covered at both online and at hotel seminars.

A strange one so far. I lumped in on Tuesday properly with some FTSE, Dax and Dow as we were getting towards the last ten trading days.

With some massive luck the US powers that be said interest rates would come down and overnight all the indicies rose strongly.

The next day the FTSE stormed up nearly 200 points and I ummmed and ahhed about taking profits, eventually decided to to raise all the stops in good profits.

Just as well because the miserable git that runs the UK Bank was miserable as usual and the FTSE began to fall.

As it fell my profits were automatically taken by the stops. Quite a good result.

Though nowhere near the very top, trailing stops will never do that.

But, I did want another stab at it. On Friday I tried, but tight stops got taken out for small losses.

Today I've given it my third try and got some indices early doors and going ok so far.

We are now in the strongest part of the year with the bit between Xmas and New Year usually very good.

I am more tempted though to use the Dax and the Dow rather than FTSE as the FTSE is top heavy with oil and that can slow it down.

For Dax spreadbet firms call it the "German 40" and the Dow is called the "US 30".

Good luck if you are playing the Xmas rally from here.

I would suggest a read of the Xmas rally part of my SB book, link here:

>

Tightest spreads this year are with TN, you can join here.

>

Margin wise you need something like £350 for each FTSE point.

I do suggest work out your max poss loss with your stop and a reminder this IS a gamble!

2023 than? Overall not bad. A good start with some bids, a poor middle and a decent end.

The money in the isas has gone up a reasonable amount. Not enough for celebrations but not bad either.

My biggest loss of 2023 was IBPO where I lost a packet.

Out of the blue it decided to de-list. I think us holders got very bad luck especially as even now profits are booming in it privately.

We basically all got shafted. Lesson learned not to hold shares where one person has more than 50pc.

The only consolation is it did pay out some whopping dividends over the years.

Best? Sureserve brought in a lot as it got bid for as did another bid story K3C.

And out of the blue I doubled on Sopheon which I was thinking of selling because the price hadn't moved for so long!

On paper my biggest profits of the year were in YU Group.

The other highlight and a big holding is MS international.

I'm sure a lot of us shareholders are gunning* for a bid next year given its bosses are pushing it agewise and might be open to a bid.

*See what I did there?

With lots of defence contracts coming its way, could be more to come.

So, what of next year? Seems straightforward.

If interest rates do start to come down and the economy picks up, we could have a wonderful year.

But if it doesn't, we won't. There, that's my very insightful analysis.

See? I spent ages thinking that through.

We could see more bids, The UK market looks well undervalued compared to the US.

If prospects brighten many of us could see some terrific gains.

I'll be around with one or two online education events in 2024, one or two hotel ones and two retreats.

If you're an improver a beginner why not join me for the first online seminar of the year on Feb 9th?

Could help your new year resolution of having a great 2024 markets year.

A whole day of live markets direct from my real accounts. Nosey around them all if you want!

And we will also cover what to do should 2024 stink the place out.

I wish you all seasons greetings, don't worry about me not getting any sleep due to the mother in law snoring.

And just think, soon no more Wham on the radio* till next Xmas!

*Radio for younger readers = what we oldies often listen to. It's like Tik Tok and streaming but....

(I was thinking of writing a song called "Video Killed The Radio Star", what you reckon?)

In the unlikely event you miss me why not play my 2019 Xmas podcast special. Pop it on on Xmas day while you're making lunch!

XMAS RALLY SPREADBETTING
I discovered a SB firm that does just 0.6 on the FTSE and tight spreads on 100 and 250 shares, also handy right now if you are shorting given the such tight spread

Just a 0.6 spread for the FTSE which is fantastic and the best I've found.

That is going to be great for the Xmas rally bet.

Spreads on FTSE 100 and 250 stocks are really tight, I shop around SB sites when I am about to trade for the best spread and this one keeps coming out the best.

Here's the link if you want to sign up, on this link the lovely Lorenzo will help out if you run into trouble or make a fat finger trade.

Let me know if you run into any problems with it but seems a no brainer for the Xmas rally or a short.
I've finished the book on AI - "The Coming Wave".

It's a must read for any investor - I've learned a lot, the writer co-founded Deepmind, one of the world's leading AI cos.

It's fascinating, some of the conclusions are scary and it's good to try and understand it, though in the end he concludes AI will being a lot of benefits. It will also drive some shares down and some up.

Buy and read! Amazon link:

One or two of you asked about how we got our car back after it was stolen, we used apple airtags, hide them in your car or under your bike seat and get your car or bike back, amazing.

Amazon have them, link here:

The steering lock we were recommended and bought you can get from amazon, link here:
I love companies with decent cash piles and I've developed a screen for shares with cash with Sharepad to go with my new book.

The screen goes with one of my strategies from the new book "Dash for Cash".

The idea is it picks up sensible shares with a cash pile for further examination.

I don't mean it to be "just buy any share on the screen." My idea is it's a start for further research as just because a company has a cash pile doesn't necessarily mean it's a great company.

If you don't have Sharepad you can try a free trial using the link below, if you think it is useful after the trial you get a decent discount on the link and can pay monthly if you want.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time. Trades first reported in the diary under Markets every other Thursday afternoon.
