Why are we at home during August and not in Spain?

Oh yes that bloody virus! Given the pain it would be to
get a hol in the UK we have decided to re-create Spain
in the back garden.

We've got the sunloungers, the umbrellas and the swimming pool
and looks like the weather too!

We've spread books and mags all over the loungers and we are going to try and have a relaxing August pretending to be on holiday.

But where am I going to order a refreshing espresso Martini from? Hmm. Might have to buy a mix thing.

Lots of advantages. No security check ins, non speedy boardings,
kids kicking the seat behind. Immigration queues, rip off hire cars, rooms not ready, hang on a minute, why did we ever go on holiday?

Main thing is you can cancel out the stupid human fear of missing out emotion.

Oh and also it gives me a better chance of staying alive. After all the virus wants to wipe out my age group and it hates baldies.

Given I'm going to relax, also taking the month off the website but will be back with an update on Sept 3rd. All right I know it means I am too bloody lazy to do it but who's the boss? Me! And I asked the boss and he said I could have August off as I've done such a great job as always, in fact have a bonus! I did do an August zoom seminar though.. new date for beginners and improvers is Sep 23rd, see above for details.

For our 20th wedding anniversary (WTF!) we went into town and
stayed at a fab 5 star on the river. Normally a room there is £500 and a suite £800 - the room was £188 and we got upgraded to the suite!

Oooh ... nice views of the boats on the Thames and the currently closed London Eye. Molton Brown shower gel! Two eff off TVs!
And some really lovely staff who had to wear masks when we didn't.

It's great having a wander around town when it is virus quiet and tourist free- lots of room to look around in peace.

A lot of restaurants are shut but we found Ping Pong open which is decent - perspex dividers between tables, tracing et all seems to work ok. Plenty of atmosphere despite the virus.
Although.. again.. it is mostly the under 30s that seem to be out.

Also supporting local restaurants which still are very quiet - prices have gone up a lot but I guess they are trying to get some money back. Still £100 for a cheese souffle, espresso martini, some cod and a crab pasta seemed a bit OTT. And no sniff of a Rishi bonus.

Our teenager has found a part-time summer job on a house renovation project.

Two days a week mainly dumping stuff in skips but he loves it.

Trying to get him up for school is a nightmare - no problem with getting up for work, he leaps out of bed!

Can't blame him, he finds sitting down all day a nightmare and would rather be out there working. It's GCSE year too. Yikes.

As you know I turn down everything usually - interviews, speeches,
collaborations.. did you know how much money I could make if I accepted ads from the rip off Forex companies? (Answer: lots)

But I got interested in an idea from Global radio to do a weekly
podcast for total share beginners.

Idea is one of their Radio X DJ people is turning 30, knows nothing
about markets and want to try and invest.

I show him week by week how to do it. Every week he finds
something to invest in and so do I. And every week we
try and buy or sell something. I try and stop him buying
mad type shares.

We both put 3k into his isa and will try and grow the modest
6k. Spoiler alert: We didn't end up buying IAG.

If you want to hear it search for "Naked Money" whereever
you usually get your podcasts from. Apparently it is on apple and I tunes and something called Spotify. They asked me to ask
you to give it 5 stars.. whatever that is about. I just talk from
home and everything else is someone else's work!

If it makes any money (no idea how they do this or if it will as it is free) any profit coming to me will go directly to Help The Aged.

Hang on they sent me this link, if it doesn't work please
don't mail me !

>

And of course if that one is too simple for you there is always my own crazy and much less sensible not for profit podcast with DJ NT:
>

Great to see you all online for the last two zoom seminars and lovely to see many of you I have met before at the hotels for the follow up.

Thanks for all your great contributions and homework. Congrats to John for winning the £100 which he kindly will donate to the Cats Protection League.

The next one is September 23rd, email for details at robbiethetrader with "sep interested" in the subject line.

Thanks for all the feedback on the online seminars, latest
from David:

Well it doesn't happen often, but I am absolutely speechless! I don't think I have ever spent a more worthwhile day nor spent money more wisely and gladly.

I for one was practically at the point of orgasm all day in my enjoyment and appreciation of what you were presenting! Even though I have read NT time and again, to see you going through the process of stock assessment over and over was incalculably useful and I managed to take six A4 pages of notes during the day. I was fascinated to learn about (and see) Level 2 in action and learn more about Spread "ËœBetting'.

I thought the presentation balance was perfection, and Elizabeth was a complete star with her very well-judged handling of the questions....

.....This is a rather long-winded way of saying thank you so much to both of you - today was one of the top five most enjoyable days of my life, and I greatly look forward to joining you again!"

Naked Rambling

Arrgghh, not another "slogan".

It can't be easy being in charge at the mo, and my guess is whoever was picked would struggle with virus problems.

But it is the slogans that get me. Especially the latest whatever it is - something like Stay Apart, unless you feel a draught?

Hey actually that's not bad is it?

I just groan when Boris constantly repeats whatever the latest slogan is whatever he is asked. Please.. stop!!
I wasn't sure about the eat out deal but I changed my mind:
I reckon it's a great idea as I see TV pix full of people
eating out early in the week.

It's a great way to stimulate the economy and get bums on
seats for hard pushed eateries and off peak times. Let's see some more adventurous ideas.

How's about scrapping all the stupid tax rules? They waste so much time and effort. Look, I'll happy to give the Govt 35% of everything that comes into my bank account and no claim backs.

They can have it as it comes in, same day. Let's do it!

It was long night watching our next door team Fulham get back into
the premiere league.

A couple of bits of magic near the end sealed the win and my son went
over to the club to celebrate with 100s of others.

Shame it had to be at the expense of Brentford - a team which must be congratulated on an amazing season on little money.

While it is all great for now, you just know when the fixture list comes out the first game will be Man City. Gulp!

Summer TV looks a bit dire! The TV companies are struggling as so little has been produced recently.

Mrs America (****) BBC1
A terrific series based on real events. Hats off for
a brilliant performance from Cate Blanchett.

The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty (****) BBC2
For those of you who are big fans of Succession, this
is the real-life one!

There's everything here especially when will he be succeeded by one of his kids? Answer: Not until he croaks!

I've met Elizabeth Murdoch a few times when I worked for Sky in the 1990s. She is incredibly bright and very personable. I just remember thinking "Don't drop the glass of champagne" when standing in a circle with her and other execs.

A Suitable Boy (**) (BBC1)

I'm sure it's great, blame me. I thought I would make the effort to watch a costume drama with the Mrs. I'd like to write some pretentious stuff about how great it was and how arty farty I really am and all that.

But I'll be honest. I was thinking while watching "Will Mitro be fit for the play off final" And "We're nearly out of dry cat food".

By the end I had no idea who was supposed to be seeing who or really care less. Plus I got really lucky. Even the Mrs said she thought it a bit dull, she felt it was just actors talking lines. Lucky escape for me! Obviously everyone else but me loves it so
just ignore me.

Deceived (***) (Ch5)
A seemingly plotted by numbers thriller with all the usual stuff.
Scheming lecturer, a clairvoyant, evil house and lots of bumps
in the night - oh and it has the hot bloke off Normal People.

It pretty quickly went into the fast forward department. By FF ing
through people walking into cars and around and bits of fluff an hour long episode can be seen in 20 mins. Life is short, after all.

Foreever (*****) Amazon Prime
Well, a surprise gem I came across by accident!

It's supposedly a comedy but actually it is sharp, dark and asks a lot of questions about life, relationships and being human.
Lots of great lines, clever camera angles, and.. it really does make you think! Nice one.

Best bet is to binge watch the whole lot quickly.

Sky... where the eff is Billions??

A man planned his proposal by lighting 100 tealights. He
leaves to pick up his would be wife to their flat.

On return, the whole thing is on fire and is destroyed. She
said "I was in total shock." However she still said yes.

I wonder though whether she is really thinking: "Sh1t! I
am marrying a total f****** idiot!"

MARKETS

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Amazingly really, whenever the market tries to fall, it gets bought up.

The question, given all the problems in the world is why?

Well, who knows, the market is always mad.

I guess for now it looks forward to 2021 and 2022 and assumes virus problems will gradually drift away.

For the moment there seems a quite tight trading range but with big moves up and down. The big move down then next day seems to become a big move up!

August can often be tricky with less liquidity and market moves can be a lot faster as things move up and down like lightening with little trading going on.

This makes entry and exit points a lot harder and I try not to do too much in August. I'm usually away on holiday and generally in a normal year keep things as they are. This year I am holidaying in the back garden and will try and pretend to be in Spain and
ignore the markets as much as possible.
I've bought some Network International (NETW) which we looked at during the last zoom beginner/improver seminar as a share with news that had just come out.

On the day, Network announced a fund raising to buy another company. It's a payments company and it wanted loadsamoney to buy DPO which operates across Africa.

Seems a decent idea and Network's share price is a long way off highs and with the share price below the placing price seemed a reasonable idea and bought some live at the zoom seminar. Could be some decent upside with 500p a fair target.

It was also interesting to discuss with those at the seminar whether or not to buy a share which has just issued some news.

In the last update I mentioned I was looking to buy some new K3C as I noticed it fell below the price institutions bought at in a placing.
The price got too tempting and I bought some.
This week it announced an immediate profit enhancing buy of
Quantuma using some of the proceeds of the placing.

With that decent buy and the cash it has K3C looks way undervalued at the moment. With patience some major upside to come. It's still buyable at the fundraising price! Too cheap for me.

I bought some I energizer (IBPO) . This is a lovely under the radar type of share with a lot of promise.

It's in the technology services arena. As we transform to a digital world, this company takes advantage.

It turned net debt to net cash and even increased its dividend, rather unusual for 2020.

It says it sees a "sizable project pipeline" for 2021 so my plan is to buy and hold maybe for a couple of years.

I picked up some Spirent (SPT). This one is all about the oncoming 5G revolution and it specialises in testing.

Although it has already gone up a fair way there is potential for a whole lot more.

Today it reports a decent amount of 5G related contract wins
as well as very strong cash, an increased dividend, lots
of new products and it has been selected by Amazon
for Alexa as a test lab.

Lots of positives here and happy to take a long-term position at current levels. It is down a little today on results but looks like just a bit of profit taking and it could easily head over 300p soon.

I have taken a bite of Greggs (GRG) (See what I did there?)
Mainly because the share price has halved since Covid and this
seems a decent time to rollover a few shares (See what I did there too - and this site is free!)

It was doing very well pre virus. Its vegan rolls were flying (just don't ask what's in them but I bet it ain't pretty).

Problem is a lot of stores are in transport hubs and high streets and those aren't the best places right now.

But shares are on a Rishi Sunak style discount offering so worth a bash - if they start to sink much below 12 quid though I am out.

I liked the look of Morgan Sindall (MGNS) after it reported this week and bought some. Considering Covid, the shares look decent enough and it still has cash.

It's not my kind of sector but I fancy a little exposure to construction and Morgan Sindall looks the best of the bunch, so I am in!

I took a small loss on the small position I had taken up a while back as the shares had started to slide - now back in, I'd hope to hold for a while for more upside.

After all the shares have come back a long way!

I couldn't quite resist getting some ITV - and I know the
results today were dire. As expected.

But. The markets look forwards. Productions are starting
up again, and ad revenue should come back.

The value of ITV though is hidden in plenty of assets like the studios and if anyone wanted to buy it they'd have to pay
at least 130p I reckon.

I suspect the share price is somewhere near the bottom. However
it is on the risky side.

I added some more Flutter, (FLTR) heart all a flutter. Shares keep rising and they seem a decent bet. First position already nicely in profit and the second looks like it has decent odds of doing well too.
The opening up of the US is key here and it could be one of the best FTSE performers this year unless there is massive new anti gambling legislation here.

Also added more of drugs co Vectura (VEC)- shares are breaking up and they look rather cheap - and you never know with these companies - sometimes you get lucky with a find of some kind.

I have never understood why anyone ever bought shares in the AA with its crazy debt pile. I have made a fortune shorting them, over time personally I reckon over £30,000 and quite a bit for the website too of nearly £6,000.

This week there is news that some crazies want to buy it or it will get re-financed. Well, it can't carry on like this. Time for me to move on anyhow and so the shorts for the site are finally banked.
I took profit on Eleco - shares just aren't moving and lost
patience there for now but profits nice at around £1,200. Also lost patience with Stck and that went for a profit of £420.

Elsewhere considering the markets overall are a bit weak,
very happy with a lot of the recent buys.

Be interesting to see where we are by September - I will
be back then with more!

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME

When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
